I'm pretty much an NBA guy these days--not enough time to watch the college game. So I don't have much to compare Royce White to. Kentucky's Davis seems to be that unusual defensive presence--like a young Marcus Camby---but far more agile on offense. But I was awfully impressed with Royce White, who struck me as an unusually shaped and gifted player.
What I like:
1) He's got an NBA body already. A big, strong NBA body. He was able to neutralize the Kentucky bigs on defense.
2) He's got great hands. He can catch anything.
3) He can dribble far better than most combo forwards.
4) He's a nice passer; got a quick mind and subtle release on his passes.
He reminds me a bit of Anthony Mason, whom the Knicks ran their offense through for so much of their last heyday. He's very different than Barkley in terms of shape/leaping, but there's a certain similarity in the raw strength category. What intrigues me about White is that I can see him being an important cog in a team without sufficient PGs. Given that we don't have anyone that looks like a PG we want to have next year, this might make his stock go up. I'm curious if anyone else was intrigued by him.
