Fire McMillian?!?!
After watching more good players come to this team and under preform I am convinced that Nate needs to go... He was raving about a more "running" style this year and we continue to watch these guys walk around with NO ball movement and turning it over at a rate or 15 or so per game (ALWAYS seems like more). We get out worked, out hustled and poor shooing teams scorch the nets against us. I truly believe its the coaches fault. Nate needs to go... NOW! Thoughts?

Players play...
…and coaches coach.
That was a poorly PLAYED game not a poorly coached one.
These are professional basketball players making tons of money… a lot more than Nate in most cases. An NBA coach can rarely RAH RAH guys into playing harder like high school or even college coaches can.
The effort tonight stunk and you can bet that Nate didn’t have anything to do with that… it was the players who didn’t put out the effort.

Nate hasnt proved anything
He is overrated. Still living off Seattle’s improbable playoff run with Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen. Other than that he hasn’t even led the Blazers out of the first round. Time for some new blood. We should have never fired Rick Adelman or Mike Dunleavy, look what Adelman has turned the Twolves into. They are 1 game behind the Blazers right now.

"They are 1 game behind the Blazers right now."
See how well off they would be if they lost Kevin Love & Ricky Rubio to injury?(See Brandon Roy & Greg Oden for us, we are still competitive).

Who’s to say Greg Oden is any good? He has never helped the team once in 5 years so lets not compare him to Kevin Love, that is simply crazy.
Talking about a high lottery pick, like Love was. In addition to Rubio, like Roy was.
Savvy?
"We gotta get this $#!^ together guys!" - Phil
It’s all about production. Greg Oden’s production = 0 since Dec. 2009
Love’s an all-star and Team USA prospect.
No, my original statement
was losing Love & Rubio VS Oden & Roy as what you expect to get from elite talent at the top of the draft. Simple as that. Same as OKC losing Westbrook & Durant, do you think they would be as productive as we have been? I don’t think so. All our hopes were pinned on Roy & Oden, just like those teams are doing with their two great players. We lost ours & Aldridge has some how emerged as a #1 option, after looking like a 3rd option at best during the Roy-Prime years.
We as a franchise were robbed of talent through injury, as was Nate McMillan. I will let the franchise build around Aldridge & then judge whether or not Nate is the coach for us. Because I know if Roy & Oden were healthy, we would be title contenders. We have done a far better job then most when it comes to coping with losing both of what you thought were franchise building blocks.

Oden is a dominant force
you’re undermining your own argument by trying to diminish his impact.
He has never helped the team once in 5 years so lets not compare him to Kevin Love, that is simply crazy.
54 wins with Oden-Roy-Aldridge, most wins we’ve had in how long? He made Joakim Noah look like a rag doll and Tim Duncan look feeble.

If we still had Monty Williams I'd be all for firing Nate today.
As it stands, we have no assistant coach that could realistically step into the head coaching gig and do any better than Nate, so with that in mind, if we’re gonna fire him, it should be this offseason so we have time to look for a new coach.

my thoughts are that we have a flawed roster
and that we’ve over achieved each of the last 3 seasons.
Until the roster isn’t flawed it’s hard to tell how much to put on Nate. But whatever, we lose games and people will want change, that’s how it works for every team in every sport.

I agree...
…Of course it’s easier to change a coach then to rebuild a roster. I just don’t think that is really the issue. I love the Blazers and the players are all good guys but I just don’t see them being good enough to advance in the post season with Nate or any other coach.
Our PG play has been very weak and thin. Marcus Camby is awesome but he’d be so much better backing up Greg Oden or some other real forceful 5. Our 3 point shooting is inconsistent and our perimeter defense allows too much penetration and doesn’t pressure the ball. We just don’t have the pieces to accomplish these things.

Absolutely! I don't really care who replaces him, just get rid of him! ...and his crew!

his crew is probably worse than he is.
Oseipka is horrible. The Bulls were HORRID when he was their defensive coach. The obvious reason he was hired is he worked with Vinnie Del Negro, who was Nate’s college roommate.
Bernie is just a mirror image of Nate.
It’s a freaking old boys club.

lol, where's the analysis?
I truly believe its the coaches fault.
why? because we aren’t running enough? that could be the players’ fault, as when we do run we tend to turn the ball over, or can’t finish on the break.
if he was fired, who do we replace him with?

Obviously Pat Riley with Phill Jackson as head assistant.

man, easy choice.
I don’t know how I overlooked this.
They’d probably work for free, just because they idolize the Blazer franchise.

If we are going to fire Nate, who do you have in mind.
a college hire is a huge risk & the great ones won’t leave their safe place in the NCAA. Unless we could hire Lionel Hollins(FORMER BLAZER, Great coach !), I don’t see any other coach over Nate who is going to be an improvement.
"We gotta get this $#!^ together guys!" - Phil
Larry Brown, if we think we actually have a contention level team within two-three years
cause he probably won’t stick around any longer than that. or maybe going for an assistant coach? Budenholzer? Sam Cassell?
McMillan is getting somewhat better every year, but he still isn’t that great of a coach, and definitely some of the roster decisions he’s influenced (Felton & Smith) have been pretty horrible. when I hear him talk about how his players scrapped the game plan against houston, he needs to have more control over his players than to just let them totally ignore him like that.
"Wide, girthy. Just like a Rhino. Sometimes my horns are visible."
I'd be for Larry Brown
if you acquired Steve Nash this year & got him + Marcus Camby to resign for next year as well. Essentially putting us in a year or two “win now” window with Larry Brown. I’m a big fan of his, but it seems like we would be better of building for the future after seeing how this season has progressed.
"We gotta get this $#!^ together guys!" - Phil
"Sam Cassell?"
You mean the E.T. look-alike who’s rotting away in D.C.? No thanks!
Assistants to keep an eye on are Mike Budenholzer, Michael Malone, David Joerger, and Chris Finch.
"I Am Mine"
I said Budenholzer,
And then ran out of names I could think of, and threw out Sam Cassell just because I remembered him as a candidate to coach in Houston and because it’s about time the NBA had an extraterrestrial head coach. I don’t know whether he’s a good assistant, but since he coaches for Washington, I’d probably guess no.
"Wide, girthy. Just like a Rhino. Sometimes my horns are visible."
Brian Shaw
he is an assistant in Indy right now, but he was raved about when he was a Laker.
The heir apparent to Phil…the guy can’t do much worse

that'd be a nice one to shove in the laker's faces if we took them down next year
with him on the sidelines
"Wide, girthy. Just like a Rhino. Sometimes my horns are visible."
Terry Porter
cause…hey…how much worse can he do than Nate
please no
"If I had a dime for every basket I made today, you'd still suck!" - from the book 'John Dies @ the End'
he has to do better
as a coach than as a sideline reporter…right?

haha...well yeah
but the bar’s set real low

I'd do Shaw way before Porter

Been waiting for Nate to get the axe for 4 years.
Overrated, overrated, overrated.
Just wasting time finding out the inevitable and that is that the great coaches play chess, Nate plays Checkers.
Chess vs. Checkers IV coming to a TV near you this summer.
This is rediculous
Candidate for coach of the year, assistant coach for the olympic team but apparently he still sucks? That is totally BS. Stop with the blame game.
"assistant coach for the olympic team"
Did people in Portland make that argument for P.J. Carlesimo in the mid-’90s?
Lots of fans blame Nate.
Nate blames his players.
His ex players blame him.
by loyal_blazer on Feb 11, 2012 1:32 AM PST up reply actions
No they don't...
…saying it doesn’t make it so.
I’ve never heard one ex-player say a thing about Nate. Do you have any examples?.. Maybe a little Rudy whining?
And while you’re at it remind me of when Nate has ever “blamed” a player. He uses “we” a lot but I’ve never heard him say our problems are player X’s fault.
Nobody has sited a better option then Nate that is realistic to get and if we got a big name guy he’s still going to have a team with some glaring weakness’. I mean I love the Blazers but we are about as thin and weak at PG and C as a team can be right now. Throw in our lack of dependable three point shooting and you have a team with player issues not coaching issues.
