Gameday Open Thread: Rockets vs. Blazers
The Blazers are stinking up the Rose Garden, en route to a 14 point halftime deficit against the Rockets. In the process, they're making Houston look like Finals contenders. Hang out here and hope it gets better in the second half.
Random fact: The Rockets and Blazers fought in the first round of the playoffs just a couple years ago. But only four players are still on their respective teams: Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge, Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry. Otherwise, both teams are completely different.

Yes and No.
Nash would get destroyed playing our switching “pressure” defense.

most of tha thas come from him having to give help defense
and then the oither team kicking it.. our team defense is just a mess
wallace isn't even helping.
he’s standing still on the weak side.

Lets see your the only one on this site that has such a high praise of nate
So either you are the only one that understands basketball strategy, or perhaps your not… just saying
when we are stagnant on offense, and don't play a solid team defense
those fall on the coach. Hes the one calling the offensive sets, and calling the defense we are running.
i guarantee you he doesn't coach the lack of movement or inabilty to handle a screen.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
you say that... but have we seen any different since hes been here?
If it was a short period of time i would agree, but when ive seen it year after year, then thats not just an anomaly
the same complaints are said year after year
no matter who is on the roster, its always the same issues with the team. So at what point is it time to make a change?
if it were up to me, i'd change the people complaining.
but timmay won’t let me.

Year after year these have been the complaints
-we get stagnant on offense.
-we can’t defend the pick and roll
-we shoot to many 3’s
-not enough low post play
No matter whose been on our roster its been the same thing. So at what point do we insist that nate fixes these things?
-we get stagnant on offense.
what team doesn’t?
-we can’t defend the pick and roll
our bigs can, our guards can’t. and they couldn’t on their other teams either.
-we shoot to many 3’s
we are average in 3 attempts.
-not enough low post play
we have two players who knows how to play in the post.
is nate supposed to turn camby into an offensive force?
is he supposed to teach felton/blake/miller how to be totally different players then they have been their whole careers?

There are a lot of people on BE who think highly of Nate.
A looooot. Watch which fanposts and comments get the recs.
Hasn't he got several coaching honors?
like assisting an olympic team? idk, I thought he did some stuff that average coaches don’t do.
or you know
his ability to keep us last season from looking like the cavaliers when Roy went down.
Look, I can't argue with the concept that without Roy, we're suddenly the Cavs minus Lebron
So I’ll bow out here.
"like assisting an olympic team?"
Is that really an honor?

True...and I am one of them.
Players play.
I guaranty Nate isn’t coaching the Blazers to play with no energy and to turn the ball over endlessly.
It’s the guys on the floor that are responsible for the weak effort they are giving. This isn’t high school basketball…it’s the NBA. Coaches…don’t lose games very often but players often do.
#7... GO BLAZERS!!!
This is really not a game we should lose.
Just unacceptable play in that half. Get it together, guys.

i'm just providing the sensible alternative to people blinding blaming nate for the team being a mess.
lowry is better than felton. always has been always will be.
martin is more effective than matthews.
wallace won’t guard jumpshooters. he refuses to.
la is forced to cover teh entire floor since no one else will.
dalembert is a wash with camby.
and their bench is way better.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
The only thing we didn’t want Houston to do, shoot lights out. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cool of in the second half and this becomes close in the fourth. Otherwise what can you do?
Leaving too many shooters open. Our low post D looks pretty weak.
Especially with Camby out.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
So what's going on?
Is this team really emotionally defeated from that OKC game? I thought they’d be beyond that.
It kinda makes sense actually. It explains why they play well at home.
They rely way too much on emotion and runs.
Yeah, definitely can see that.
They’re just drained. Sad, really.

Can Nate talk them into having more talent?
I’m all for firing Nate McMillan, his coaching staff, and also the entire basketball operations department. Yet, the roster needs to be scrubbed and cleaned, too, or else 2012-2015 will be a run of mediocrity.
"I Am Mine"
I fall in the "it wouldn't hurt to have fresh coaching but this team isn't a contender" group as well.
Ive made the argument no matter if you like or dislike Nate
at some point a change is good. I think a perfect spot for nate would be sacramento. I think they could use his style and discipline.
I dunno.
Mike Brown has them playing very well on defense, while a lot of the offensive problems rest on Kobe’s shoulders and a terrible group of players from 4-15.
"I Am Mine"
True, but I assume Jimmy Buss is stubborn enough to ride it out with Brown for ...
at least three seasons.
"I Am Mine"
be a prefect fit for him. I truly think nate does his best work with a team rebuilding
Once its time to compete though, then hes not as productive
I wouldn't trust Nate with Tyreke or DeMarcus.
Keith Smart is more laid back, so he’s a far better fit there for the next year or two.
For Nate McMillan, him going back East to the Charlotte Bobcats makes a lot of sense.
"I Am Mine"
I would rather stick with Nate and press the concept of loyalty.
I’d only be okay with losing Nate if we brought in a coach with a championship ring.

There is something really missing on this team...
I honestly don’t think LMA is a leader. He disappeared tonight. This team is too weak without something to take control of games…
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
LaMarcus is too ingrained in the idea of a wing player as closer to take over. That of course was Roy.
I know he wants to be the Guy but I think he’s finding it much harder than he thinks. Just think about all those crunch time FT’s he used to miss.
That was his first truly bad game all season
He may not be the leader we need, but he’s a dang good player.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
blazers played way below their talent level
I HATE it that the well-coached teams that can run and defend a pick and roll just kill us. Why is it that all of Houstons players were constantly moving the whole game and the Blazers seemed to be standing around the entire first half. I dont
Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje, Vladimir Stepania, Ha(ha you suck) Seung Jin, Travis Diener and Erick Barkley
Blow it up
Lets face it…we need to blow this thing up. Get rid of Nate and start trading players that have trade value for draft picks (except LMA of course).
We should also let the young players like williams and nolan smith play alot…lets see what we have before we make decisions on them…and practice time does not count. I do doubt they would dribble the ball off their feet more than Felton and Crawford.
