Gameday Open Thread: Rockets vs. Blazers

The Blazers are stinking up the Rose Garden, en route to a 14 point halftime deficit against the Rockets. In the process, they're making Houston look like Finals contenders. Hang out here and hope it gets better in the second half.

Random fact: The Rockets and Blazers fought in the first round of the playoffs just a couple years ago. But only four players are still on their respective teams: Nicolas Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge, Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry. Otherwise, both teams are completely different.

[BTW we're aware of that fanpost problem on the right. The guys are working on it.]

Nash would get destroyed playing our switching “pressure” defense.

So either you are the only one that understands basketball strategy, or perhaps your not… just saying

by Kazper on Feb 8, 2012 8:20 PM PST up reply actions

when we are stagnant on offense, and don't play a solid team defense

those fall on the coach. Hes the one calling the offensive sets, and calling the defense we are running.

you say that... but have we seen any different since hes been here?

the same complaints are said year after year

no matter who is on the roster, its always the same issues with the team. So at what point is it time to make a change?

by Kazper on Feb 8, 2012 8:27 PM PST up reply actions

Year after year these have been the complaints

-we get stagnant on offense.
-we can’t defend the pick and roll
-we shoot to many 3’s
-not enough low post play

No matter whose been on our roster its been the same thing. So at what point do we insist that nate fixes these things?

by Kazper on Feb 8, 2012 8:28 PM PST up reply actions

-we get stagnant on offense.

what team doesn’t?

-we can’t defend the pick and roll

our bigs can, our guards can’t. and they couldn’t on their other teams either.
-we shoot to many 3’s

we are average in 3 attempts.
-not enough low post play

we have two players who knows how to play in the post.

is nate supposed to turn camby into an offensive force?
is he supposed to teach felton/blake/miller how to be totally different players then they have been their whole careers?

True...and I am one of them.

Players play.

I guaranty Nate isn’t coaching the Blazers to play with no energy and to turn the ball over endlessly.

It’s the guys on the floor that are responsible for the weak effort they are giving. This isn’t high school basketball…it’s the NBA. Coaches…don’t lose games very often but players often do.

It seems that the Portland Trail Blazers are just not a very good team

Aldridge is an all star for sure but the rest of the team is kind of lame. Wes Matthews is good too. But everyone else is borderline. Or just plain bad, like Felon.

The Blazers began the season playing above expectations

Now I firmly see them as underperforming. I don’t know the reason, but it’s my perception.

by Timmay! on Feb 8, 2012 9:11 PM PST reply actions

they are seriously underperforming. They may not be a great team but they are so much better than this.

But we’ve a got a lot of long, weak leapers who are better at just jumping at the ball, so they never establish good position, which helps both individual and team rebounding.

Can Nate talk them into having more talent?

I’m all for firing Nate McMillan, his coaching staff, and also the entire basketball operations department. Yet, the roster needs to be scrubbed and cleaned, too, or else 2012-2015 will be a run of mediocrity.

Ive made the argument no matter if you like or dislike Nate

at some point a change is good. I think a perfect spot for nate would be sacramento. I think they could use his style and discipline.

by Kazper on Feb 8, 2012 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

I dunno.

Mike Brown has them playing very well on defense, while a lot of the offensive problems rest on Kobe’s shoulders and a terrible group of players from 4-15.

I wouldn't trust Nate with Tyreke or DeMarcus.

Keith Smart is more laid back, so he’s a far better fit there for the next year or two.

For Nate McMillan, him going back East to the Charlotte Bobcats makes a lot of sense.

I HATE it that the well-coached teams that can run and defend a pick and roll just kill us. Why is it that all of Houstons players were constantly moving the whole game and the Blazers seemed to be standing around the entire first half. I dont

Blow it up

Lets face it…we need to blow this thing up. Get rid of Nate and start trading players that have trade value for draft picks (except LMA of course).

We should also let the young players like williams and nolan smith play alot…lets see what we have before we make decisions on them…and practice time does not count. I do doubt they would dribble the ball off their feet more than Felton and Crawford.
