HoopIdea - ESPN's attempts to improve the NBA
Hey there my fellow Blazer's Edgers!
So True Hoop (via Henry Abbott and Royce Webb) have announced Hoop Idea - an engine for improving the NBA and the sport we all love. See the story here:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/36635/hoopidea-an-even-better-game
So they want you to e-mail
hoopidea@gmail.com or go to the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/yourNBAdestination
and tell them your ideas. Well I sent an e-mail, and I'm sure you can guess what it says:
1. Goaltending needs to be a reviewable call.
2. Scott Foster should never officiate a professional basketball game again. (Seriously, the guy has been implicated in the Donaghy gambling scandal, what the hell is he still doing with a job in this league?).
3. Half court refs shouldn't make calls they can't see. (I don't know how you enforce that, but I'm bitter so I put it anyway)
Yes, yes, I know, the Blazers had every chance to win this game before and after the Goaltending Call Heard 'Round the World, but the fact is, the game would have most likely ended then and there.
So I encourage everyone to write into this HoopIdea with similar points. This was some horseplop and the fact that nothing will be done about it is despicable!
Thanks for reading,
Alex

Sweet! Somewhere to complain to!
I copy and pasted your ideas in and added a few of mine. (most will never happen but I think they would improve the nba.
1. Goaltending needs to be a reviewable call.
2. Scott Foster should never officiate a professional basketball game again.
3. Half court refs shouldn’t make calls they can’t see.
4. Make all calls reviewable in the last 5 minutes
5. Increase the amount of refs from 3 to 5 ( three refs apparently cant see everything, go figure)
6. If a star like chris paul or kobe or blake griffin whines at a ref they should given an automatic T. (nba is about basketball, not a nursery filled with babies
7. No more “condensed schedules.” just continue into the summer with the games
8. Kobe doesnt need to win ANYMORE CHAMPIONSHIPS. (he and the lakers have plenty) so this means stopping huge trades like dwight howard to la or rajon rando to la. (by doing this you allow other teams to win. Also do the same with the celtics.)
9. When a coach or owner calls out the league (being the refs, or davis stern himself) dont fine him, take a look into what he said before anything.
10. Holding, pushing, over the back, 3 in the key, and delay of game are still illegal, remind refs that.

Just remember
As soon as it becomes somewhere to complain about, it loses any chance of ever actually bringing change. Mind you, it’s probably already past that point.
And banning trades to LA? The NBA is already close enough to a dictatorship as it is.

by far the best idea I've seen posted:
Eliminate clock, first team to 100 wins. Brilliant.
"But if Ding Dongs and prime rib were the path to NBA pivot stardom we'd all be wearing the uniform." -Dave
that could be really awesome.
but it would also make ugly low-scoring games that much more painful because you have to wait forever for the team to get there.
