Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Mike Tokito of The Oregonian reports that Portland Trail Blazers big man Chris Johnson survived contract guarantee day without getting cut.
----------------------------
"I was just smiling from ear-to-ear," Johnson said. "Just excited. It was definitely a goal of mine to stay here, be a part of this."
----------------------------

Johnson was picked up by the Blazers after the trade deadline last season and was signed to a non-guaranteed contract for this season. His contract is now guaranteed. Johnson beat out fellow big man Earl Barron during training camp to claim the team's 15th and final roster spot.

Johnson, 26, has appeared in 11 games this season. He's averaging 1.5 points and .6 rebounds in 4.2 minutes per game.

CJ has lots of raw hustles

Glad to see he’s sticking around for the rest of the season.

can't agree more

I’d rather have someone like him as a 15th man, then someone completely useless. CJ is pretty good at defending stretch 4’s, a solid weakside defender & can throw down a huge dunk or two when he is setup properly.

I saw Lin in a pre-season game with the warriors, when he looked great.
I’m glad he’s playing well, and enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. But it’ll take more than two good games before I’d want him on the Blazers. Look out when the scouting reports catch up to him.

maybe

I don’t think we’ve seen enough of either player to judge one way or another.
Lin is a soph, and Smith is a true rookie. Neither has played enough NBA minutes to determine whether their performance is reflective of their long-term potential.

CJ is great and all but he is a fouling machine.

If he gets that figured out he would see a lot more minutes. Hustle and flair, he is crazy sometimes.
