Sick of seeing the Sonics fans.
So Seattle is getting ready to steal a team from another incredibly loyal fanbase like Sacramento, and they're still out in force whining about the Thunder? I've had it with these guys.

I love it
it wasn’t those fans that kept the city from building a new arena, I can assure you of that. If Portland got stripped of the Blazers I wouldn’t let people forget either.
The part where they get another team is weird though, since the Thunder have the Sonics history.

I believe Seattle regains their history once they have a team again.
Basically the same as how the Cleveland Browns version 2 has version 1’s history, even though version 1 is still playing in Baltimore

oh gotcha
that makes sense. What would happen to the Kings history (or whoever got moved) in that situation then? Just be gone? And the Thunder, similar to the Ravens, would then be an entity unto themselves with no prior history?

In that case,
The Thunder ought to become the King’s interim archive for the time being.

Incorrect.
“According to the agreement, if Seattle is granted an expansion team in the next five years, that franchise will share the Sonics’ history with the Oklahoma City team.
If Seattle lands a team through relocation of an existing franchise, most likely the Oklahoma City team will retain sole possession of the Sonics history."

Personally, I’d prefer to name the incoming team something entirely different (e.g., Seattle Flyers). With the SuperSonics long gone and faded away into history, I’d want to start over if the Puget Sound region gets a relocated or expansion NBA franchise in the future. Among Washingtonians, I’m probably in the minority with that viewpoint; yet, that’s how I feel about it.
"I Am Mine"
So you wouldn't be in favor of The Seattle SuperSonics?
Is that because of the bad taste the whole relocation experience left in your mouth, as a Sonics fan? Or are you thinking a fresh start would be in order?
I’ve been a Blazer fan since 1975 as a young boy. It was something my dad and I, along with my two brothers shared, all our lives until my dads untimely death in 2003. We were all very close; playing basketball and watching the Blazers was a tradition/ritual that always brought us together.
I still find myself starting to reach for the phone to call my dad when something incredible happens (like the getting the #1 pick in the draft). The smell of my dad’s pipe goes hand in hand with the sound of Bill Schonely’s voice on the AM radio.
Anyway, I was just thinking that if the Blazers ever left Portland, it would be a loss for me totally out of proportion to just an NBA team relocating.
Forgive the lengthy diatribe AK. Here’s hoping you get your team back the way you want it.
I'd be O.K. with reviving the SuperSonics name, but would much rather go with a fresh start.
“[I]f the Blazers ever left Portland, it would be a loss for me totally out of proportion to just an NBA team relocating.”
In Seattle, I’m sure that’s how it was for most people. Unlike most folks, though, I got through the mourning period rather quickly and accepted the funereal fate. Yet, instead of being like a death in the family, I compare it to a failed relationship. Right now, I’m just sleeping around — whether it’s with Chicago in 2009, Dallas last year, San Antonio now, or Portland off and on for 4 years — but am still waiting for a new long-term girlfriend to come along down the line.

You're absolutely right!
How dare they complain about the team they loved and supported for something like 4 decades getting taken from them and having their say mean nothing!
How dare they feel bitter about getting stabbed in the face!
How dare they exercise their first amendment rights with the tickets they paid for!
THOSE BASTARDS!!!
Come on, man. Try looking at it from their perspective. I would hope that we’re all as strongly devoted to our blazers as they are to their dead sonics (RIP). Fandom with that passion should be admired, not spat upon.

Actually...
I think those guys were rooting for the blazers cause every time LMA made a shot or got a call they jumped up and down pumping fist…
Or maybe they were mad and jumped up and down pumping fist like “why I outa!”

They were rooting hard for the Blazers
I love seeing them get courtside, behind the Thunder bench, for the cameras.
Witty Unpredictable Talent and Natural Game
but they're about to do the exact same thing to Sacramento.

That's life.
I’m also pro-carpetbagging, which I’ll explain by quoting a past comment of mine from a few years back.
“I’m more infuriated at Howard Schultz than Clay Bennett, Aubrey McClendon, et al.
As I’ve always said, I get the motive [of] Bennett and his cronies. Heck, if I hypothetically had like a ten or so billion dollars (e.g., Steve Ballmer), I’d gladly spend $200,000,000 of that wealth on purchasing something like a NHL franchise — such as the Calgary Flames: http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/31/hockey-values-09_Calgary-Flames_311479.html — and, moreover, would have no qualms at all with relocating it down to the Puget Sound region after spending another $500,000,000 on building a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports arena.
Many folks up in Alberta, Canada would view me with contempt — while I’m sure some of them might even burn a dummy of me effigy — however, I’d still be the toast of the town in cities across the Pacific Northwest.
Schultz, on the other hand, vehemently disgusts me, as he’s a crooked, traitorous sellout in the mold of a modern-day Benedict Arnold. Despite me being an atheist, I view Schultz as Judas reincarnate."
http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/10/8/1740009/i-like-my-type#48851855
So yeah, no hypocrisy from me. I’m nothing if not consistent.
"I Am Mine"
I can understand that AK although I still think Bennett is garbage because he lied.
He said he would not move the team if they could get an arena deal but I think everybody now knows he bought the team with every intention of moving it.
Loud pipes save lives!
Bad knees break hearts!
Time for an exorcism.
Yeah, Bennett and his cronies lied. Lied through their teeth.
But I’d lie, too, specifically if it got a NBA franchise back to Seattle.
What I wouldn’t do, however, is crap on civic pride and sell my hometown team to an outside buyer. That’s why loathe the disloyal, treacherous Howard Schultz, whose betrayal is guilty of treason in my eyes. Go DIAF, Schultz.
"I Am Mine"
I get that's life, and I have no problem at all with any city without a team trying to get one.
But I’m sick of seeing the self-righteousness and self-pity as they pull together an ownership group that’s got the Kings and the Hornets in their sights.
Not sure why you think Seattle’s not in position to get a team, there have been multiple news reports recently about the new ownership group working with the mayor to get a new arena built. And these reports also add that they’re targeting the Kings.

"there have been multiple news reports recently about the new ownership group working with the mayor to get a new arena built. "
I’ll believe it when I see the arena being erected.
“But I’m sick of seeing the self-righteousness and self-pity […]”
For many people, that’s a natural reaction.
“[…] as they pull together an ownership group that’s got the Kings and the Hornets in their sights.”
Take what you can get, although the Kings situation should be settled before Seattle has got all of its ducks in a row.
"I Am Mine"
I would be interested to see the reaction if the Blazers played one of their reg. season games against the Thunder in Key Arena or the Tacoma Dome.
I bet Bennett would decline to attend & the crowd would be mostly pro Blazer.
Loud pipes save lives!

Im not mad at the Sonics fans at all
In fact, I was stoaked to see them representing at the game. No hard feelings for them at all. I feel bad they lost their team. And it wasnt any kind of reflection on the Blazers they were at the game, it was more of a stand against the fact the sonic fans were sold out, that they meant nothing to the organization and that in the end everything comes down to money, even human souls have a price these days. If you wanna sell it, there is someone willing to buy it. Like Jack Johnson said, “nothings sacred anymore.”

That big dude sits front row in the end zone at Seahawk games right?
It reads Big Nasty on his Jersey I think.
That guy can do whatever he wants to.
also, they were rooting for the Blazers.
Sacramento stole a team from Kansas City, which stole a team from Cincinnati, which stole a team from ...
Rochester.
That’s life.
"I Am Mine"
To add to that, though, Seattle isn't in a position to get a NBA and/or NHL team. Not without a new arena.
If I was a betting man, I’d wager that the Kings will either say in Sacramento or relocate to Anaheim. When it comes to the Phoenix Coyotes, I expect it’ll end up in Quebec City.
"I Am Mine"
Sonics fans...
Can someone explain to me how any Sonics fan could possibly root for OKC? I don’t understand these guys. Why would any Sonics fan root for the Thunder? it makes absolutely no sense. The Thunder are not the Sonics anymore, they are the Thunder. They are Clay Bennett’s team, the guy all Sonics fans despise HIS TEAM, the Thunder. Yet, every time they are in town, these guys come down from Seattle, buy tix, & cheer them on. Weird…
They weren't. They were heckling and booing the Thunder the whole game.
And cheering for the Blazers… At least the guys right behind the Thunder bench were.
If anyone thinks
that Sonics fans want to steal a team from another city they are woefully ignorant of the situation. Whether some billionaire steals a team, that is a different story and has nothing to do with the fan base. What most Sonic Fans are pointing out by sitting behind the Thunder bench is an injustice that occurred based on back room deals and lying.
If you actually want to understand the perspective then check out Sonics Gate – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9Dp20ydm1E
It doesn’t mean it is true, just that is where they are coming from. I would hope Portland would fight for its team too.
So if Christopher Hansen succeeds in putting together a stadium deal and heists the Kings
to play in Seattle, you’re going to refuse to go?
by howlingfantods on Feb 8, 2012 12:03 PM PST up reply actions
what are you talking about?
If you haven’t realized it yet fans have very little control over what happens to franchises. I don’t blame Oklahoma City fans for going to basketball games. If Seattle ever finds itself with another team, why would I blame Seattle basketball fans for attending games? Sacramento didn’t always have a team either and that franchise was moved many times previous. Would I blame Sacramento Kings fans for going to basketball games now just because the franchise was moved from another city? It’s not the fans, but the business. Seattle’s example happened to involve extremely unethical business ethics and back room dealing.
