defense and rebounding

have to adjust. Also Aldridge was unstoppable. Would have loved to see a few more shots for him.

the reason we give up so many boards is tipping

Yeah its nice when it goes in, but if guys would just go after a board with both hands & secure it, we would have a lot more positive possessions, rather than hoping a random tip of the finger gets the ball in the hoop.

by Blazer_Duck on Feb 6, 2012 8:14 PM PST reply actions

Just got home.

First play I saw was that sweet pass from LMA to Crash which of course he misses.

I’m over Wallace, I just want him gone, trade him for assets be it future or win now assets right after he puts together a string of like 3 good games so his value is slightly higher.

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

I know we've talked rebounding

But don’t forget Free Throws.

Portland: 3-9
OKC: 12-14.

by Timmay! on Feb 6, 2012 8:15 PM PST reply actions

thats because all of the 50/50 calls have gone to the thunder

a couple blocking fouls, one of which was definitely a charge. and the fact they let durant just lay all over gerald and they won’t call it. You watch, he will end the game with 3 fouls at most.

by Blazer_Duck on Feb 6, 2012 8:17 PM PST up reply actions

OKC's been called for one more foul than Portland

Problem is, the Blazers keep fouling them in the act of shooting when they’re not in the penalty. Such a killer.

It's a toss-up.

I think Cheeks could have been just as successful with this group the past 5 years.

by Timmay! on Feb 6, 2012 8:29 PM PST up reply actions

Hard to be a great coach during that era.

I think Nate is average or just below, and I suspect Cheeks is in a similar range, though he’s hard to say thanks to the players he’s had to work with.

Cheeks would have been one-and-out with the Blazers the past 5 years too, I suspect.

by Timmay! on Feb 6, 2012 8:31 PM PST up reply actions

is cheeks a head coach still?

There we go, no one wants him as more than a assistant.

by Sheed30 on Feb 6, 2012 8:32 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, he's assisting Adelman in Minn.

I also think Porter could have taken this team to the playoffs the past 5 years. Much like Cheeks, he’s partially a victim of his teams (he should have never taken that Phoenix coaching gig). I really can’t rank TP in general though, I didn’t see much of the teams under his watch.

Nate McMillan.

McMillan is a below average coach, while Mo Cheeks is a bad coach.

If Cheeks was a head coach today, then he’d be in the 21-25 range of head coaches. Think Lionel Hollins, who got overrated this past off-season due to the Grizzlies’ flukey playoff run.

"Good" can be different for a rookie than a vet.

Look I don’t know if Elliot is the answer, and I’d love it if he is. But usually when someone doesn’t get playing time, it’s not because the coach just doesn’t want to win, or something.

he’s got enough talent to at least get 10 min a game

That’s a leap I’m not yet comfortable making. I’ve only see him play ok (with some spectacular dunks) against scrubs. Really can’t judge much from that.

by Timmay! on Feb 6, 2012 8:58 PM PST up reply actions

I don't see how throwing a young player with some upside

some minutes (not many, but make it a consistent amount), just to see what he can do with it is doing any harm. especially if the guy has a 48" inch leap, can cover the perimeter quickly, has a decent jumper…

by meRoy on Feb 6, 2012 9:04 PM PST up reply actions

Those are physical attributes. There are mental ones too.

And I’m not really sure he can cover the perimeter quickly. Don’t know if I trust his jumper but that’s a separate story.

The coaches almost never say negative stuff about rookies in practice

They always want to be encouraging. Practice comments can be taken with a grain of salt. When they think he’s ready, I suspect he’ll get more time. It’s not a bad thing for a rookie to get practice time, and have coaching fix some of their tendencies, before opposing defenses eat them up.

Batum is my favorite Blazer.

I don’t care if he’s inconsistent and doesn’t have the heart of a champion or whatever else every Batum detrator says. I just love his game, and he seems to be the most humble, down to earth player in the NBA.

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

Batum could of lay it in with the left hand.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

that and the no foul on LA one one end, followed by a phatom foul on westbrook at the other

and OKC gets both bang/bang out of bounds in their favor. refs killed us late

I think we deserve this

we didn’t rebound. refs have helped us too.

With all we did... Right or Wrong...

That bogus goal tending call decided the game. No two ways about it.

why do i love basketabll so much

it’s so aggravating that the refs have far too big an effect on the game.

Oh...I get it...the Ref's are on the take again...that's the only thing that makes sense here.

Not the refs...

I we coral one of those 50/50 balls on OKC’s last three possessions (should have been one) and Batum dunks the ball on Westbrook’s head, we win!

Of course they review this but can't review the goaltend call

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

I hate to say it

But I think the refs really did lose this for us.

Yeah if they had reviewed that goaltend we would have won in regulation

I don't think goaltends can be reviewed

am I mistaken? I would be even more mad if they could have reviewed it.

Worst Goal Tending Call in History!!!

…Especially to decide the game.

Referring FAIL!

Pretty solid game though

Starting PG out, Batum still doesn’t have the lift yet, and they forced OT to a team with two superstars, a mammoth-size front line, and this year’s likely sixth man award winner.
