Gameday Open Thread: OKC vs. Portland

Ready for another game? Tonight, Oklahoma City arrives in town to play the Portland Trail Blazers (7:10 tip-off). Both teams have enjoyed a day off, thanks to the NBA's limited schedule yesterday. This is one of those games I'm not very excited about, but would enjoy a surprise. Can the Blazers continue their home dominance?

Injury Report: Blazers Radio producer Rich Patterson confirms that Raymond Felton (ankle) is not playing tonight, and Jamal Crawford will start in his place. For OKC, Thabo Sefolosha is inactive due to a foot injury, and Daequan Cook will start in his place.

Read: Dave's Preview | Blazersedge Night stories | Blazers Media Notes | Facebook | Ben's onsite updates on Twitter
Watch: Comcast Sportsnet (Portland) | Blazers live streaming | NBA TV (National, no League Pass tonight!)
Listen: 750 AM The Game (Portland) | NBA Audio League Pass (Free)

The usual rules apply:

1. No swearing | 2. No pictures | 3. Be Nice!
4. Don't discuss unofficial game streaming, even when the game is on NBA TV.

And, of course, have fun. Go Blazers! -- Tim

Think Armon will get the minutes over Nolan?

I hope so. Nolan’s been awful thus far.

Elliot

Better get minutes before armon. His half a finger is holding him back. Hahaha get it?!? but all bad puns aside elliot can atleast play a little like matthews and crawford. Ball control, 3 point ability and drives to the basket

I had low expectations for Smith.

All I expected from him was to show that he can play a little PG at the NBA level—he can’t.

Armon isn’t very good, but he’s a step up from Smith.

It probably won't be that good of a game anyway.

I was hoping to watch Atlanta/Miami. They always duke it out in overtime.

Clips played starters heavy minutes while Magic played around 30. DH played almost 40 though. I hope the Magic can finish that one.

Yardstick Game...

This could be a huge momentum builder!.. One of those rare occasions where I won’t be crushed if we lose but I’ll be completely jacked up if we win.

If we do get this game, and win a revenge game with Houston Weds. night, we’d have the perfect roll going to head out on the road and reverse our travelling slide.

I feel a big game coming from LMA and Crash with some frustrating defense by Batum and We$ on the Thunder perimeter sprinkled with some big rejections and a ton of rebounds from The Camby Man. Steal and breakout boys… steal and breakout!!!…

Jazz and Spurs still down in the 4th

Clips look like they’ve beat the Magic. Could still be a pretty good night.

by poorwebguy on Feb 6, 2012 6:56 PM PST reply actions

Utah lost. Need OKC and Denver to lose

Would put us in 4th because we’re 2 – 0 against Denver. Would also put us 2nd in the NW division.

Going to take a miracle for Denver to lose to Houston at home though. Might take a miracle for us to win tonight too.

His story is crazy.

I’m not Chinese/Taiwanese but I want him to succeed so much. Led his school to the state championship and didn’t get a scholarship anywhere until Harvard gave him one. Played great all 4 years. Shocked people in the summer league after destroying John Wall. Then was basically a running joke here in the bay area last year. It’s great to see him having success finally.

by Fila429 on Feb 6, 2012 7:06 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I saw him play in college.

Pretty skilled player. I think he can be a decent backup, though I don’t expect him to keep playing this well. Never know, though.

we have had a bit of time to prepare for this big game,

so, coaching had a chance to set some strategy. I hope it is effective.
Motivation should not be a problem in this one.
I really expect the start to be intense, OC wants to stun the Blazers at home quickly.
Really watching close for the start- could be a big factor. Whatever it takes, don’t let them steal and dunk right off.

If Jamal adjusted his game and the starting offense flowed smoother with his presence, I wonder what would happened when Ray returns. Ray’s not as abysmal as some have complained about, especially as he’s playing a little better recently, but perhaps a vet at PG would help calm the team.

here's a quick primer

Does the blazer’s opponent run pnrs all game?
if so, aldridge will not rebound great, because he is playing perimeter D.

Does the opponent run screens for shooters?
then he will rebound well.

I'm amazed teams aren't more physical with Westbrook

Though it’s possible I just don’t see it since I rarely see them outside of Blazer games.

Doesn’t compare with LAwesome or Wallace, I’d be frustrated too.
