LaMarcus Won't Believe All-Star Status Till He Hears It Out Of Stern's Mouth
Nice article written by Marc Spears for YahooSports.
This is only summating the quotes, as I have left out the vast majority of the article (please don't edit my post Mods):
Aldridge isn’t going to buy into the hype until the All-Star reserves are officially announced on Thursday.
"They got to call my name on that day on television and say, ‘These are the reserves,’ for me to believe I’m in," Aldridge said. "I won’t believe no leaks, no articles. If David Stern writes an article saying I’m in, I’ll believe it. Other than that, I won’t believe it until they call my name."
Aldridge said he was "robbed" and spent the 2011 All-Star weekend vacationing in Mexico instead of Los Angeles, where the game was played.
"I felt like I had done enough," Aldridge said. "I felt like my body of work spoke for itself. I didn’t believe I was in just because of how things go. I had so many players in the league say I was going to make it. You start thinking, ‘I’m going to make it.’

What a fool...he must be paranoid.

That is messed up

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not
But LaMarcus’s whole “no respect” act with regards to the all star game is getting a little played to me. For someone who professes to not care about the recognition at all, he still seems to have a lot to say about it any time someone puts a mic in front of him.
Really, though, I don’t see what there is to complain about at this point. He had a fantastic year last year, and if he hadn’t have started so slowly he would have been a lock. There just happened to be 12 other guys (13, really, Z-Bo had about as good a case as LA) also having fantastic years in the conference. Ironically, his season last year would make the all-star team this year simply due to the western forwards getting thinned out. Just how it goes sometimes.
I am being sarcastic
And he does have reason to say what he said …re: He will believe it when he sees it .

To be fair...
they’re not JUST putting the mic in front of him. They’re asking him over and over how he feels about it. You would prefer Miller’s way of handling questions?

Just be consistent
Don’t claim it’s meaningless one day then complain about being robbed the next. Or really just say you’re waiting to hear like everyone else and won’t answer any more questions about it until the selections are announced. Contrary to popular belief, reporters aren’t complete jackasses about things like this and won’t repeatedly badger a player if he doesn’t want to talk about it, particularly about something boring and inevitable like this.
Who cares
He was pissed he got snubbed last year (and yes, it is pretty much a consensus nationally that he got snubbed)….so this year is alternates between saying he doesn’t care ….but…if he does care …he won’t believe it is true until he sees/hears David Stern announce it

it became the consensus well after the deadline
because he kept playing so well. At the time the selections were actually made he was considered right on the bubble. The Basketball Jones, Basketball Prospectus, Bill Simmons and John Hollinger didn’t have him as an all-star, Zach Lowe, Kelly Dwyer and David Aldridge did. To the extent people thought it was a snub, it was because there were too many qualified forwards in the West, not because it was a travesty of justice that he didn’t get in. Even conceding that Duncan was somewhat of an iffy choice, zBo and Nash could have stated equally strong cases last February.
i keep dancing on my own.
i think you are perhaps missing the point
I am speaking to why he (LMA) is going back forth between claiming not to care and then saying he will believe it when sees it this year. It matters more what he believes and he believes he was snubbed…and thus explains what Royster was complaining about
"What began as a credible protest against bank bailouts, crony capitalism and the like has, in large measure, been hijacked by crazies and criminals,"
no matter what SOMEONE will have something negative to say about a player's
answers. Either the media or fans…
The only reason LMA didn’t step up any sooner was out of respect to Roy. McMillan was still calling for plays with Roy. How was LMA supposed to get around that?
He was on a winning team and had played VERY well from the beginning of December on. He played well prior to this.
If he was a big old alpha dog, he could have been in McMillan’s face and said something about Roy being the first option when he should have been…
Some of those voted in are just ridiculous…just as it is ridiculous that some are left out.
This year, did the team do any marketing-type things like the iRoy for LMA?
I haven’t seen any. I wonder why the team stopped politicking like that.
i like it here, there, everywhere.
The whole LaMarcus Beats headphone thing
for media members and league officials thing has been pretty well documented. Ben had a fanshot specifically about Kenny Smith wearing them on air when the Inside the NBA guys were announcing their reserve picks.

You've must have been under a rock but I'll fill you in.
The Blazers FO sent out custom Beats by Dre headphones to the voters. Kenny Smith was wearing them last Thursday on TNT.

He'll get in easily this year.
That said, sometimes it takes an extra year or two to break through the wall. This season, it’ll probably be Paul Millsap who faces rejection like LaMarcus Aldridge did 12 months ago.
