Can Seattle actually get a team again? Soon?
This looks promising....

should be the Hornets
keeping them in NOLA is stupid.
the truth hurts. fox news is painless
Yeah, relocating the Hornets to Seattle makes the most sense.
Pertaining to the Kings, it’ll either stay in Sacramento or, perhaps, relocate to Anaheim as proposed earlier.
Either way, though, it seems doubtful that the Maloof family will sell.

I'm holding out hope that Vegas gets a team first
I will actively look to be the GM then.

Vegas would be an interesting market
It’s recent financial struggles would be a problem, though. Unless you had a star-laden, entertaining team, it’d be tough to sell tickets.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
I really don't think the NBA wants a team in Vegas
There is just too much fear involved in having a Vegas team.
Yeah, I know it'll never happen
It’d be a really interesting case study, though.

Once Seattle has a new arena
I would not be surprised if Paul Allen tried to move the Blazers to Seattle.

It's not the NBA that's stopping Paul Allen.
It’s the NFL. It’s a rule among NFL owners than you cannot own another professional sports franchise in the same city as your NFL team. As long as PA owns the Seahawks he cannot move the Blazers to Seattle.

When the Seattle builds an arena...
…that meets 2012 standards (in terms of seating capacity, skyboxes, parking, and concourse amenities), something the people of Seattle voted AGAINST, then they can talk about getting a new team. Since that process would take several years at the LEAST to even begin to come to fruition, I’d say no… Seattle has no chance of getting a team again anytime soon.
As much as Sonic faithful lament their loss, the city of Seattle left David Stern no choice regarding the team, and Clay Bennett, deplorable as he is, gave the league a solution.
And rest assured, if ever Seattle did get a new team it would NOT be the Blazers.
I'm not even convinced the city of Seattle would welcome a new team
David Stern seriously burned his bridge to the people of Seattle.

so just wait for the david stern to retire.
he did state that this would most likely be his last bargaining agreement with the nba, so retirement for him can’t be too far off

It can't be too soon...
but then, the other bozo commish, Selig, said the same thing and now we’re stuck with him for a couple more years…
Goodell said something interesting yesterday when asked by Bob Costas about his plans for putting a team in L.A. Goodell said he didn’t want to move a team there. He’d rather have a new franchise there, to which Costas replied that would create a 33 team un-balanced league. Goodell said no, it wouldn’t, because he’d prefer to add TWO new teams.
Now, wouldn’t it be great if Pdx were that “other” team? Combined with the aforementioned rule that Allen couldn’t own both teams in Pdx, that would be a real winner for the city. I really wouldn’t want Allen to own another team in Pdx in spite of how desperate I am to have another one here.
I am now the proud owner of four season tickets to the Timbers this coming season. Soccer is growing on me slowly. Absent baseball, and with the Blazers seemingly stuck in neutral, the Timbers are the only other game in town for me.
I know we don’t have the stadium or the political/financial clout mobilized to get another big league team, but wouldn’t it be great….?
Bud Selig has kept baseball alive and well
in a sports world that has evolved around it. In spite of steroid scandals, dominance by the large/traditional markets and no hope in sight for many of the smaller ones (like my unfortunate Seattle Mariners, for example), and a CLEAR emergence of American Football (both college and pro) over the last generation or so as America’s true favorite pastime, baseball continues to thrive. Don’t be fooled, it is BECAUSE of Selig’s contributions to the game that such is the case, not in spite of them.
The Seattle M's are an on-field disaster not due to being a mid-market team, but rather ...
because of inept management. A small-market team can succeed in the tough environment of MLB, which the Tampa Bay Rays have proven the past few years. All it takes is competent leadership from top to bottom.

Portland will never get a NFL franchise.
If the NFL expands to 34 teams, then Los Angeles will be awarded two expansion franchises.
Though, if the NFL expands, I’d like to see it go to 36 teams (i.e., six divisions of six), with San Antonio and Toronto also in the mix.
"I Am Mine"
they already have a franchise in san diego
wouldn’t two in southern california be enough? though I doubt Portland’s next on the list.
"Wide, girthy. Just like a Rhino. Sometimes my horns are visible."
I think people would be back in a heartbeat
They even support teams that never amount to anything, as most cities with a pro sports franchise do.
I lot of the Seattle disposal sports income was shifted to the Sounders, who have very high attendance
And in my experiences talking to Seattle folks, they’re very unexcited at the thought of getting attached to a new NBA team. Lucy can only yank the football so many times. It would probably have to be a very long-haul approach to rebuild the core fan base.
Who are these people?
Also, a lot of people have little use for soccer. Not to disrespect the sport, but it hasn’t caught on with the majority of casual sports fans. While the Sounders F.C. has its loud, boisterous gang of diehards, it’s them and only them. Its level of fanfare is located somewhere within the vast gulf of Mariners and Seahawks on one end and the Storm on the other.

people would be back in heartbeat!
One of the greatest cities in America! Fanfare was down after Ray Allen got traded and they sucked. Then Durant… you think Seattle wouldn’t be filling up an arena with this OKC roster? Absolutely!
They’ll come back. Seattle/Tacoma/Bellevue is a highly populated place…
Washington is the twelfth most populated state and they all live along the I-5 corridor.
Nah, that bridge can be rebuilt rather easily. Maybe it's just me, but I think people hate Howie more ...
than Stern. Do they dislike Stern? Yes, without question. Yet, so long as a new team came to the Seattle area, most Washingtonians would grimace and bear it with regards to him as the NBA Commissioner.
If anything, it’s the building of a new state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility that might be hard to come by.
"I Am Mine"
It won't be the Kings and it won't be in 2012.
As of yet, Seattle doesn’t have its ducks in a row. Maybe someday soon, though.
But just remember this oft-repeated Field of Dreams quote: “If you build it, they will come.”
Well, it’s technically “he” instead of “they” in the film; however, most everyone misquotes it, including me.
"I Am Mine"
Wow, the dismissiveness in here is surprising
1. They can raise a ton of money by tapping existing funding sources;
2. Infrastructure costs will be virtually nil since they bought land just south of Safeco (the infrastructure is already there);
3. Using Key Arena as an interim facility while the new stadium is being built is not a problem since Key Arena is no worse than the Kings’ arena;
4. They can also lure Phoenix’s NHL team which would make the facility a cash cow.
I’m actually pretty psyched about this. Would love to see the Blazers-Sonics rivalry be renewed, and I think a basketball/hockey arena would be perfect in SoDo.
Probably the coolest thing for Portland sports fans is that a Seattle NHL team would most assuredly play at least an exhibition game each year at the Rose Garden, and who knows, maybe they would play a few regular season games as well. Would love to see NHL marketed regionally, and that could only help the visibility of the Winterhawks as well.
We’ll see… long ways to go yet.

Quebec City should be next in line for a NHL franchise.
