While I love Joel as a person and a player.

He should go to Chicago and try to help them win a championship. The Blazers aren’t going anywhere this year and if this is Joel’s final hurrah, I hope he has rings in mind.

I agree with that, mostly for sentimental reason.

It would be nice to see him play for a championship, he deserves it. But he has turned down greener pastures in the past to play with the Blazers, so I wouldn’t be all too surprised if he came back again. Can never have too many bigs that can set a solid screen..

please please please

oh my, him and camby would look nice together and backing eachother up

Just think, if we used him to backup camby

We can put thomas at the backup PF. Then use crawford and or craig smith at backup SF.

I bet Crawford has played spot minutes in the past at the 3, but it's definitely not the norm.

But yeah, the thought of Craig Smith playing the 3 is one of the most hilarious things I’ve read in a while.

IMO

Joel at the 5 Camby at the 4 Thomas at the 3 Craig at the 2 and LMA at the 1. I mean….who need handles when your combined height is like 40 feet.

by AR-15 on Feb 22, 2012 12:32 PM PST up reply actions

camby's got decent handles

Batum is taller than Craig Smith

Let him run the point and see what happens.

Blazers could use Joel

That being said, if he comes to Portland Armon is gone.

by tyeforshee on Feb 21, 2012 11:07 PM PST reply actions

Oh yes!!

Pleaseeee bring JOEL back. Hes had 2 extra months to heal. Thomas is great but needs more rest, and joel can defend better on other big guys. Armon is just o
Another guard not getting minutes. Both nolan and elliot get time before armon

Or Oden

Released for Joel. That was definitely not the plan back when they traded Joel in the Wallace deal. Or acquired Camby. Or ever.

Ok I changed my signature. Do you like it better now?

I noticed he said joel is not the missing piece.

I find that to be wrong, adds much needed height, defense, and length at the backup center. Like I said he’s had 2 more months to heal. If we can snag him, cut armon and waive oden. Add in aaron brooks or mills that would be a step up from the sadly out again oden and cant control the ball armon. Patty isnt amazing, but has proven he CAN make shots and CAN control the ball better than armon

context

He said that Joel’s not the missing piece for the championship. I may be a homer, but I’d say the chances of this team winning it all are pretty slim. However, he may be key to a deep playoff run that will help give them that winning attitude in the long run.

I would love to have Joel back mainly for the rebounding

plus he is a nice guy to have around the team.

sound the trumpets and welcome Joel home.

He was the soul of the blazers during the Roy years

by svlittle on Feb 22, 2012 12:52 AM PST reply actions

That may be part of the problem

Isn’t Batum and LMA the only players left of the team he knew? Would it really be the same team? Have to hope he still feels loyalty to the organization.

by Batumshakalaka on Feb 22, 2012 5:53 AM PST up reply actions

Please be true.

We need a Center so bad if for no other reason than to box out and set screens. Oh, that just happens to be Joel’s specialty.

It's going down on twitter right now..

Quick tweets, “Talked with Joel this morning. He has made his decision but it waiting for his agent to finalize the deal before revealing his choice.” He goes on to say that his gut tells him Joel chose Portland, but not sure.

Joel decided on Monday

Based on that, I think he is coming back to Portland. If he picked a different city, I don’t think he or his agent would have conversations with Quick raising the hopes of Portland fans only to have him chose Miami or something. Joel doesn’t play games like that.

The fact his agent was at the game last night as well speaks volumes. I was be stunned if the signing isn’t announced today. I feel sorry for Armon.

by grigs on Feb 22, 2012 9:37 AM PST up reply actions

I think greg would get released

before Armon. Armon can actually play basketball should we need him to. Greg literally can’t.

by AR-15 on Feb 22, 2012 10:00 AM PST up reply actions

If we release greg

That means he can no longer use our rehab facilities/doctors. I doubt we’d do that.

by Countless512 on Feb 22, 2012 10:13 AM PST up reply actions

Jeff Pendergraph used Blazer facilities after he was released

And at this point, Oden’s doctor is in Colorado. There may be some question about medical insurance and who foots the bills if Greg is released, but I don’t think the Blazers will bar him using their facilities and staff.

by Corvid on Feb 22, 2012 10:29 AM PST up reply actions

Oden's rehab will be covered by the Blazers until he is healed from the surgery.

It’s Oregon state law.

I'm all for Joel playing

But do you guys really think he is going to be anything close to game shape? He is coming in halfway through the year not paling a single NBA game yet. It took most our guys this long to get into game shape, I like Joel but I don’t see him playing more then 10-15 minutes a game. Though we really could use a true C for 10-15 minutes a game.

by AR-15 on Feb 22, 2012 8:52 AM PST reply actions

I'd take him for 10 minutes a game.

This season is really taking a toll on Camby. He looks like he’s struggling lately. Just slow and exhausted. Any minutes we can save from Camby are good minutes. Kurt Thomas is looking the same, not as sharp as earlier in the season. If we’re going for the grizzled vet thing, than we might as well do it by committee to try to take the load off them a bit.

Heck, even if it’s only 5 decent minutes a game, at the cost of Armon? We’re fine on bench guards with EW and Smith.

Besides, tell me you wouldn’t love to see some opposing point guards smashing into Pryzbilla picks…

And imagine the ovation he’d get when he checked in for the first time.

by Dunemonkey on Feb 22, 2012 10:16 AM PST up reply actions

I have no problem with him coming to Portland at all

I would actually like to see it happen. I’m just pointing out a few concerns I have.

by AR-15 on Feb 22, 2012 10:34 AM PST up reply actions

I am a Joel fan

as for Joel not being in shape. In the past he has done other things out side basket ball to keep in shape im not worried about that. We need a bigger center if we had Joel LA would have been able to do what they did against us. I love Camby but he is not big enough to go against the likes of Bynum and Howard they push him around. And Joel is the Leader this team needs he does not deal well with lazy play. In the past he was one of the guys that held the team responsible for their actions. He is not afraid to be the bad guy.

by avgjoe81 on Feb 22, 2012 10:15 AM PST reply actions

I think your last couple points are key

The fact that he would hold people accountable and call people out I think would be his most valuable asset added to the team.
