It'd be interesting to see if there's a correlation between HCA and various measures of travel time

e.g. total air-miles traveled, average length of road trips, average distance from opponents (weighted for number of road contests played in each arena), average air-miles traveled per road trip, etc.

That might be a factor for Portland, but I dunno.

Yeah.

If only we could have had my dream division of a teams in Seattle, Vancouver B.C in addition to Portland & Sacramento.

Simply making a NW division with GSW and Sac in place of Minny and OKC would help

cut down on our travel distance. Or doing away with divisions, and just trying to take proximity into account when drawing up the schedule.

How did you come to that conclusion?

If it was in Pelton’s piece, sorry, I missed it…

Sheesh,

I thought you said “attitude” not “altitude”. Now I get it 8>)!

Its important to note that this post tackles adjusted home court advantage— ie hca in addition to the standard 3-4 point hca that the authors of “Scorecasting” would tell us is due mostly to home cooking from the officials.

by jksnake99 on Feb 3, 2012 10:00 AM PST reply actions

I think official home cooking is a part of it, but Scorecasting also finds that attendance affects officiating right? Which would cut against the conclusion that there is no persistently greater HCA for any arenas not at altitude, and also even the one year data showing Charlotte to have a much better HCA than OKC.

i keep dancing on my own.

by atomiccafe on Feb 3, 2012 1:25 PM PST up reply actions

agreed, Charlotte having a better HCA is a data point the runs counter to the Scorecasting argument.

Yo AK

unrelated, but kudos on calling that Martin to the Clippers correctly a few days ago

The tensions are so high because the stakes are so low!

That's so weird.

I actually saw that headline on a website and my first thought was, dang AK called that one. he already has better sources than Quick.
