Quarter by Quarter scoring with a strong LMA flavor
Looks like there is some validity that LMA lacks punch in the 4th quarter scoring dept....at least compared with other top scorers...what i would like to see is the overall list of 4th quarter scorers to test a theory of mine regarding big men versus wings scorers ...but have not been able to find it
Looks like the 2nd and 3rd Quarters are LMA favs

I've long felt the same thing on bigs vs. wings.
My opinion is, big men keep you in the game in the first through third quarters, and even part of the fourth. Perimeter players close out those games.
Kobe needed Shaq, and then Pau. They both needed Koby. KG needed Pierce and Allen. Really the only exception to this was the Bulls, but they are the exception that defines the rule in so many ways.
And this is part of what makes Dirk’s performance last year so rare. Big man that can score from anywhere. He scored in the paint, but when the game was on the line, he was also one of the most clutch perimeter players.

yeah ...pretty similar to my thoughts
Plus the only list like this i was able to find was for 08/09 I think,….and the only big in the top 20 of 4th quarter scorers was Dirk.. The rest were wings . It makes me wonder if we are making a mistake trying to have LMA ram the ball down peoples throats at the end of the game …perhaps he should be reverting to his jumper at that point

i remember that post.
i thought it was 3 out of the top 25 were bigs. either way its pure crazy.
I think it also has to do with the unwillingness of the refs to call fouls in the post late in the game, especially in the playoffs. So much as breathe on a guard and it’s a foul, but the bigs get hacked pretty bad late in the game and there’s no whistle. Why work harder for an inside basket where the defense has much more liberty when you could take something that’s both easier and has a decent chance the refs will bail you out?
That’s just an observation, i can’t really site any proof, but it’s what it seems like to me.

Yeah the way I remember it
Dirk was the only big in the top twenty …and he was ranked 20th. Regardless ….I suspect what you say is true ….I would like to look at a ranking of 4th quarter scoring for other years some time ….if anyone knows if this has been done somewhere …leave a link in here

Mike and Mike attributed it to not playing Camby in the 4th.

Camby does feed LA the ball more than the guards do.

Almost as if his game
was tailor made for some dominant lead guard who can take the pressure off of him in the 4th quarter.

If only they had a chance to play in their prime together & Oden was healthy. Man, the hype we had could have been realized :\
