Research: Attending Blazers Game Is Cheaper Than NBA Average
The Team Marketing Report just released its Fan Cost Index, a summary of what people shell out to attend games at arenas throughout the NBA.
Some interesting points:
* Average NBA ticket prices are up 1.7% across the league, but the Blazers' average ticket price has dropped 4.4%
* Portland's prices for beer, hot dogs and sodas are higher than average, but it could be worse: you'll pay $9.50 for the cheapest beer at Madison Square Garden.
* Blazers fans pay less than league average for tickets, parking, programs, and souvenir caps. You'll pay $15 for a program in Miami, and $26 for the least-expensive Nets cap (compared to a free program and $15.99 at the Rose Garden).
* The price for a fictitious family of four to attend a Blazers game (including parking, food, drinks, and hats) is $296.58. This is a 0.3% drop from last year. The same family of four would pay $608.78 at a Knicks game, an astounding increase of 20.4% from last season.

A.G.H.
Where else did you think that acronym came from?!
I don't always root for an NBA franchise, but when I do, I prefer the Portland Trail Blazers.
How do salaries compare between PDX and NYC?
Am guessing EVERYTHING costs more in NYC. The 20.4% increase may have something to do with a new arena? + Stodamire and C. Anthony
Is cost of living taken into account? I doubt it.
If you look at average salaries of workers in the same field from Portland to NYC can be drastically different.

As far as beer prices
The microbrews could stand to be cheaper since they’re made in the NW, but it keeps people from getting hammered drunk at games (generally) thus keeping the streets marginally safer.
Regardless, I do my drinking before and take the MAX for safe binging.

I will say
That the free program is a no-brainer. It’s chock full of ads, so I doubt it’s costing the Blazers much, and if you’ve just dropped a couple hundred bucks to see a game, the least they can do is tell you a little bit about the product on the floor. It’s not like it’s some high-quality collectable item, and it does a fair amount to help you know the team.
You're absolutely right.
I doubt it costs the blazers anything with all the ad revenue taken in.
There really should be 2 programs at each game. The free one and the ad free collectible for a visiting fan/someone who doesn’t get to many games.
And. More revenue for the Blazers! Win/win.

Chubs
My fictitious kid is a real fat ass who insists on eating 3 hot dogs per game. WHERE’S MY RELIEF?!?!
Mrs. Felton?
We’re all real proud of your son…very, very occasionally.

Right
you could go out for the same price as sitting in front of your tv…..ridiculous.
3hrs of fun versus months/years, I say the console is a better bargain :}

problem: that’s a ton of money.
solution: be a family that can manage to go 3 hours without having to chow down on unhealthy and overpriced arena food and wash it down with soda. And pass on the hats, get your team gear elsewhere, in advance, for less.
I buy the overpriced beers at games, but that’s because I really like beer+sports and don’t like dealing with big crowds stone-cold sober.
If and when I have kids and take them to games, I’ll make sure they are fed before we get to the game, saving time and money.
Nice.
I like how you are willing to afford yourself an indulgence just because you “really like” it, but would deny the rest of your family the same, and ridicule those who would. You think a kid doesn’t “really like” a soda?
I don't have any kids.
But from what I’m told, they definitely “really like” soda, candy, hot dogs, nachos with extra artifical cheese, ice cream, pizza, cotton candy, sunny D, and all sorts of other filth. Does not mean I’m gonna buy it for them at the Rose Garden. Also does not mean that I’m buying myself beer when I’m taking my [hypothetical but hoped-for] kids to a game.
Right now, as a single young adult who is lucky enough to have a good job, I can splurge on some $11 dollar beers. And if a family wants to spend $296.58 to buy not just tickets, but also four food items, four sodas, four hats, and pay for parking, that’s their perogative. My post was only to state that taking the family to the game does not need to cost so much if you just cut out the fluff.
Some people enjoy
unhealthy over priced food just as much as you love your beer, just saying.
I agree.
All I wanna add, however, is a flask, tucked neatly into the gooch, is nearly undetectable. Nearly.

I don't want anything tucked
into or around my “gooch” thank you.
The have metal detectors now by the way
so don’t bring your stainless steel one.
How much does it cost me to take my family of five to a Blazer game?
Pick a game that isn’t an elite opponent (went to the Bobcats game last night, young kids think the game is cool and don’t care who the opponent is). Found tickets for $5 a pop on a 300 level corner plus a $5 stubhub fee is $30 bucks.
Ate before the game. Already have gear. Parked at Lloyd Center and took the MAX to the Rose Garden.
Cost to take my family of five to an NBA game: 30 bucks.

I can't sit in the 300 level without drinking beers
too many screaming children.
Oh please.
Eat real food before you go. Show up really drunk and you don’t have to buy beer either. Using the bath room is free.
Who are these amateurs spending tons of money going to games?
Come on, let's all hug it out.
