Gameday Open Thread: Wizards vs. Blazers

UPDATE: LaMarcus Aldridge landed on the foot of a Wizards player and badly rolled his ankle in the opening moments of tonight's game. He has a left ankle sprain, and will not return. See Ben's post below for live updates (I'll update the GDT too).

Note: Nicolas Batum is replacing Wesley Matthews in the starting lineup tonight, according to Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com and Blazers Radio's Brian Wheeler.

It's the start of a back-to-back-to-back, all nationally televised. Tonight, the Washington Wizards visit the Rose City to play the Portland Trail Blazers (7:10 tip-off). You know how this works by now, it'll either be a blow-out, or come down to the wire. After a contentious practice, will the Blazers come out inspired tonight?

Injury Report: Marcus Camby has a bruised ankle but is expected to play.

Read: Dave's Preview | Blazers Media Notes | Facebook | Ben's onsite updates on Twitter
Watch: Comcast Sportsnet (Portland) | Blazers live streaming | NBA TV (National, no League Pass tonight!)
Listen: 750 AM The Game (Portland) | NBA Audio League Pass (Free)

The usual rules apply:

1. No swearing | 2. No pictures | 3. Be Nice!
4. Don't discuss unofficial game streaming, even when the game is on NBA TV.

And, of course, have fun. Go Blazers! -- Tim

Just heard about Batum also

Looking forward to it.
It should hopefully motivate matthews to improve

But this was not so for Brandon Roy who listened to teammate Nicolas Batum, "You're an All-Star, a 3-time All-Star. Take the ball. They can't stop you. You just have to believe in yourself."

by speakers92blazers on Feb 14, 2012 6:03 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Or it will push matthews to the brink mentally

Just kidding though, I think this is an excellent coaching move. Shakes things up a little bit and gives Batum some minutes and the second unit a different look.

I'm afraid he'll never be the same;

he’s rapidly heading toward the Blake/Outlaw/Bayless/Fernandez global (FG%) cooling phenomena.

I would have benched Felton and Gerald, myself.

Those guys can’t shoot or finish consistently.

Need a solid win here

and then OKC, Hawks, Suns and Memphis need to win tonight. Pistons are hopeless.

We’d be back in 6th with Houston having the tie breaker over us and a couple losses back from Dallas.

I’m pretty sure Houston won’t finish in the top 4. If we somehow magically survive these next 7 games it would be nice to stay as close to 4 as possible.

Since I'm on a roll making predictions today ... I'll predict that Nash is NOT coming to PDX.

There that should do it. We’re getting Nash …

OK just my wishful thinking. But Nash and Hill are being held out the game tonight (yeah, its the 2nd game of a B2B2B for Phoenix) … Rice has been tweeting about Nash all day (yeah, Rice is never right about those things) … and Dwight Jaynes said tonight that he heard that Nash was ok about being traded to PDX (yeah, Dwight is even less reliable than Rice).

But hey, I can dream …

It's certainly a great story, and it must be fun for them.

Of course, it’ll probably vanish in an instant as soon as Carmelo comes back. Then they’ll just be the Knicks again. I’d love to be wrong about that, though. Lin’s a lot more enjoyable than either of the two “superstars” in NYC.

So I'm watching the first game on NBA TV tonight, MIA/IND...

…and it had one ugly play. LBJ stole the ball, and took on a 1-on-2 fast break. He used his off arm/elbow to push one player out the way, took either three or four steps (including a full hop), then got a foul call and hit the layup. He then celebrated his great play.

Stuff like that just kills my enjoyment of the NBA some days.

We are 37% from 3

That’s bad, but not terrible. 40% all around, not good. -9 rebounding. We got some issues. How about Johnson? He at least can jump.

no ball movement and bad defense

move the ball around and get Wes/Nic some open shots.

It's all in the top post. :)

And Ben has further updates. We’re all headed to the new GDT.

GDT?

We went like this, he went like that. I say to Hollywood: Where'd he go? Hollywood says: where'd who go?

I am sure this has been discussed on Blazersedge already (I'm not sure though)

but I think Lin is Brandon Roy reincarnated. Very similar games, and Lin’s crossover step back jumper very much reminds me of Roy’s (and his drives to the hoop and methodical play).

Could it be that Chinese agents kidnapped the real Brandon Roy

replaced him with a plastic surgery altered double, and changed him into Jeremy Lin? Skin tone is close as is the game.
