Some thoughts about changes

Hey,

here are some thoughts/ideas about useful changes the Blazers could make. I`m thinking a little bit ahead, because I don`t have high expectations with this Blazers roster for this season.

Little foreword

I think we will have a hard time to make it into the playoffs and even if we make it, it will probably be a bad spot and another first round loss. If the team isn`t able to win ONE close game in the RS, they won`t win that kind of games in the PO`s. Greg Oden is done, only the hardest optimists may think otherwise. We will never see him in a Blazers Jersey again. That being said, I think we could give this season a kick in the butt or at least risk something.

Trade mistakes

As discussed here, Felton was a big mistake. We should trade him for whatever we can get. I really don`t care what it is, a second round pick maybe. Just get rid of him. Has nothing to do with hating on him, I acutally like him, he just don`t fit well with the Blazers.

Wallace was a mistake too, in terms of big expectations against little gain for the team. I don`t think we need him, ever needed him and his contribution for the team is totally overrated. The team was a hard working team before his recruitment and it will be after him. He is a nice guy, a hard worker, a good defender and so on, but we have Batum who can do all this things and who needs to play as a starter to develop his full potential. Plus he is already better and more important for the future Blazers in my opinion. If Nate thinks he can make Batum a 6th man or something, Batum will go to another team, I`m sure of.

So let`s trade Wallace, as long as we get something for him. I`m think of first/second round picks and a talented SF like Beasley... just kidding^^ But we need a bad guy for the team, some guy who screams in the locker room and hates to lose. This team is just too nice.

Nolan Smith

He is a natural "passing PG" and I think Nate is sleeping on him big time in not giving him enough minutes to help him get practice and confidence. He can run the offense for a team like a real point guard, something Crawford and Felton don`t. He is an excellent, gritty defender. Let me add that Nolan is not 19 or 20 years old, he had very good basketball education years in college and just needs minutes to adjust for the big stage. And if he fails, we still can get a new PG next season, with Oden gone from the salary cap, there will be enough space.

So, here is my wish team for the rest of this season:

Starting Lineup

C - Camby

F - Aldridge

SF - Batum

SG - Matthews

PG - Nolan Smith

Bench

C/PF - Rhino / Thomas

SF - see above

SG - Williams

PG - Crawford

My thoughts....

I think this team is over rating Nolan smith as a pg. Every time I see him on the court he looks for his shot before he passes. I do not believe at all that he is a pass first true point gaurd. His decision making skills are sub par. I’ve seen him countless of times out there during non-garbage and garbage time shot or drive the ball instead of passing to an open player.

I think he could grow into a decent pg but to hand him the keys as a starter would not help this team at all, and would land our Blazers in the lottery. There’s a reason why he doesn’t get mins off the bench yet alone any at starting spot.

As for the Felton trade… I believe you could trade him to a team that would want expiring contracts in return. In this new CBA, it seems like expiring contracts are a lot more valuable to teams… And trading Felton for nothing isn’t better than having no one play the starting pg, has much as Felton has been sucking there isn’t anyone else in our line up besides Crawford can really run the team.

As said yes Felton is still has value to this team. Even his contract has value to this team. If the blazers were to turn around and trade for sessions straight up… Yes this team would be better but his contract isn’t as flexible as an expiring contract at the end of the year where you can have a large amount of cap room to sign or make lop sides trades in the off season or early next season. And to me if you are trading Felton or Wallace, it better be a trade to propell this blazers team to a contender.

Im a current season ticket holder and planning on to continue, but if I see a sign that this team isn’t trying to get deeper in to the playoffs but instead tanking into the lottery, my days as a season ticket holder are over.

I wanna win and I wanna win now and that line up of Nolan as a starter does not cut it at all for me.

Also I would like to add...

I hope the Blazers don’t waste LMAs talent and sit around and completely rebuild. I hope they push for contention like how Boston did a few years ago. LMA is a great player. He’s 27 right now and is at the beginning of his prime. I hope that the Blazers recognize that they can’t rebuild and expect this team to contend in 3 years instead of now. That’s just wasting LMAs talent and time.

like I said I wanna win now and I wanna see LMA get his supporting cast.

It's a common thought that Cho was fired because he wanted to blow the team up.

If that is true, it shows a want to win now attitude by P.A. We just have to wait and see about all these issues.
It would be an interesting experiment to see what would happen if the fans could collectively own the Blazers. Lord of the Flies vs. Children of the Corn?

I actually think we'll see Oden in the playoffs

one last go at an attempt to utilize the guy to win a championship.
it’s an all-in maneuver
