Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hornets
Perhaps we'll shake off the doldrums tonight? The Portland Trail Blazers head to The Big Easy to play the New Orleans Hornets (Early 5:10pm tip-off). The Blazers obviously hope for a Big Easy win tonight after a few stinging home losses. Can the Blazers, featuring newly minted All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, get back in the win column? [I sure hope so, because I'll be helping moderate the meltdown otherwise.]
Injury Report: Nothing new for the Blazers. The Hornets are still missing Eric Gordon, along with Carl Landry (sprained left knee), Jarrett Jack (bruised left knee) and, a late scratch, Chris Kaman (sprained left ankle, according to Jimmy Smith of the Times-Picayune).

Don't these ridiculous outbursts of meaningless jibberish merely betray the shoddiness of the lives of the men who write them?

At point guard, Jarrett Jack!
At shooting guard, Marco Belinelli!
At small forward, Al-Farouq Aminu!
At power forward, the white Zach Randolph, CHHHHRIIIIS Kaman!

Ferrell must love to show up at random sporting events.
A couple years ago, I went to a Kansas City Royals home game, and he was there with Paul Rudd and Jason Sudekis. Seriously.

A big easy win here does nothing for me
Im actually teetering on the edge of hoping we completely melt down this season in hopes that drastic changes are made so we can move towards building a contender with LMA rather than wade in mediocrity.
That being said, if the blazers wanted to rip of 17 wins in a row I would be down as well.
This roster isnt horrible, its one good PG away from being able to get out of the first round.
I feel the same way
I’m still on the “Win Now” bus, but I’m standing by the exit door and if we lose to the horrible Hornets then I’m jumping off. I’ll thumb a ride on the “Blow it Up and Rebuild” bus, assuming those guys let me on.
by unblindloyalty on Feb 10, 2012 4:21 PM PST up reply actions
i think we need a pg, a 2, a center who coach will actually let play in crunch time, and a back up C, then after all that we'll probably need a new coach too.
#52
I think that our current roster would look pretty fantastic if we had steve nash
he can be our replacement Point Guard and Coach.
I feel if he were to live/play in portland for half a year he could be convinced to stay here over going to NY. Portland and nash would have a steamy love affair.
though that would be the ultimate win now move
and would probably enable/require a big off season move to get the pieces to make a 2 year run at a ship.
if it was a straight pg swap, that would be great. Don't want to have to give up someone like Batum though for what could only be part of a season.
Also cuz I think we would need Batum to make that run.
#52
yeah I mean if the Suns trade him rather than let him walk
They should be able to get something more for him in return than we may be willing to offer.
Though if you could get a handshake offer that nash would sign after this season I would consider dealing Batum, especially if you think he will get free agent offers that will be toxic or too high for us….
Looks like a likely Hornets blowout
The Blazers always play bad against bad teams. So they will likely play their very worst against a really bad team like New Orleans. So logic tells us this will be a Hornets blowout. Jack is going to score forty and Okafor will have seven blocks. Caveman will vacuum the boards and shut down LMA. Coach Williams will be high fiving everyone on the bench as he exults in the thrill of defeating his mentor. McMillan will look downcast as the final seconds tick away.
Ok I changed my signature. Do you like it better now?
nice reverse jinx
I like it…my favorite part is where Jack scores 40, if that actually happens I’m jumping off my deck

we've gone from inconsistently solid to consistently terrible
it’s like we’re tanking already and we don’t even know it
I'd rather be really really bad or really really good.
no inbetween. looks like this year really really bad. I think I’ll go see who I would draft in the draft…
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
I'm not sure the blazers can make up this 3 pt deficit
only 3 quarters left.

Very nice take by Batum. He has noticeably improved has dribbling. Wesley would have just lost the dribble off his foot.
they won the raffle drawing for this game.
you’ll never see them again.

I see him as being a bust, realistically.
He also disappointed in his one year at KU.

#52--------I believe in Greg Oden
There's no guarantee he'd develop with more playing time, or that he'll develop at all.
It’s tough to take a loss by playing someone who’s raw when you’re on the edge of the playoffs.
You know who my "Click to Pick" is for tonight??
nobody. I might be right.
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
these are nice guys but the heart just isn't there
we’re short on some talent but these guys also have serious motivation issues. They’d rather be eating dinner together than killing some poor team. Probably thinking about the restaurant afterwards.
what happened from last year to this year
that changed our rebound rate so drastically?
somebody tell somebody important that if we had a rebound-saavy big to spell camby off the bench, we’d be a force to be reckoned with.
I don't always root for an NBA franchise, but when I do, I prefer the Portland Trail Blazers.
Starters, but with Batum instead of Wallace.
Curious to see how this unit does.
Doers & Makers > Movers & Shakers
You wouldn't think a starting frontcourt of Wallace, Aldridge, and Camby
woulnd’t be so atrocious on the glass
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
I think New Orleans has about 20 offensive rebounds.
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
Only the Blazers would foul a team that doesn't get to the free throw line much.
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
Aldridge needs to be called out for his lack of effort on the boards. Camby has to play defense and get the boards.
LMA only gets a board when it comes right to him.
I'm late to the party
But I’m watching the Knicks (no Blazers on TV here), and this Jeremy Lin kid looks good. From the humble beginnings of a degree from Harvard.

N.O. wearing their magic Mardi Gras jerseys.
We’re powerless against that garish mis-mash of colors.
No sense of urgency
This team just looks like its going through the motions to collect paychecks. We dont want to box out and we got guys just standing around. Time to make changes. Nate needs to go. The team takes on his personality of……. no personality at all.

This is garbage. Aldridge is doing nothing. Crawford passes up open shots, but he's fine chucking up off the dribble
with a guy in his face. I don’t even need to talk about Felton.
switching games lol
want to watch some basketball dangit! If these guys were a bunch of rooks and scrubs on a rebuilding team it’d be easier to watch.
I halfway expected aldridge to be tentative the first game after finding out he's an all star
but this is ridiculous
Get well Greg! Rip City is still behind you!
he doesn't even really make them commit to the double
they take a step at him and he’s passing the ball out

Portland's game plan:
Shoot long J’s, give LMA night off….let Hornets finish at the rim and/or rebound their misses.

I know we hate Kobe, and most of us also aren't fans of Lebron
But could you imagine if Lebron had the heart and drive of Kobe? He’d put up 35-12-12 every game.

Nate must see by now that the double is coming every single time on Aldridge. If LMA gets the ball they can easily break
down the NO defense. Basically NO is asking for Portland to pick them apart and they haven’t done it yet.

nah, they are going to see if they can be the first team to win a game being out-rebounded by 40
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
we win or lose this game with Crawford
is LMA saving his energy for the all-star game?
nobody crashes the boards anymore
unless they’re the other team
Put Batum back in.
The only time we didn’t look confused in this game is when he was in.
this reminds me of the game where broy dropped 52 on PHX
then was held to 8 the next game @ DEN.
LA just got way too satisfied about making the all star team.
PHILLY!
He's getting doubled every time, and we aren't going back to him after he passes out of it.
But his defensive effort has left a lot to be desired.
