Gameday Open Thread: Bobcats vs. Blazers

A weirdly big game is on tap tonight, as the Portland Trail Blazers host the Charlotte Bobcats (7:10 tip-off). Look, we can mince words about many teams, but this is the Bobcats. The Bobcats! They're 3-19, playing on the second night of a back to back (thumped by the Lakers last night), and are on the road. Plus, the Blazers had two days to ponder an ugly loss in Utah. Even with the ongoing injuries, the Blazers should win this game. Are you concerned?

Injury report: Lots of news. Nicolas Batum (knee contusion) is out. Craig Smith (viral infection, yuck) is questionable but pre-game indications are that he will give it a go.

Bonus news: Nate McMillan says Elliot Williams is expected to join the rotation tonight, according to Joe Freeman of The Oregonian.

Some things immediately come to mind

This game should be a cake walk, even with tonights slightly depleted roster. The Bobcats are T-U-R-R-I-B-L-E Terrible!!! But that is half of the problem. Given what we’ve seen so far this year, I would half expect the blazers to finish at 32-1 at home, and 3-30 on the road. Many of the road losses have been close games where the blazers were in control for stretches. Utah, and Golden State come to mind. But the team seems all to ready to abandon ship given the slightest bit of adversity in a road game. Of course I hope they take care of business tonight, but its not a “critical game” in the sense that its not likely to play any part in figuring out their road woes.

I saw most of bobcats v l*kers last night

The bobcats are just downright awful right now. To wit, Boris Diaw, who looks really tubby this season, is their first or second offesnive option.
But they did come back from 20+ down to pull within 12 or so in the third quarter against the hot-shooting L*kers.

That said, their overall weakness at every position leaves me with no doubt that the blazers will coast to an easy win tonight. I just hope the starters can rest early.

by Saba on Feb 1, 2012 6:11 PM PST reply actions

Bobcat's are the worst team in the NBA right now

they have no one to score the basketball other the Kemba hucking, They did a superb job giving us Crash and tanking into the lottery. There is no way we lose this game.

Is this NBA JAM?

After Crawford made that third three I thought -uh, oh he’s On Fire!!!! Can’t miss

Even against this horrid team, Felton still isnt statistically that successful lol

16:48 MIN, 1-3, 2 PTS, 4 AST, 1 REB, 1 TO, 1STL

Henne is the greatest and the Dolphins will go 14-2 this year and win the SB

my god Camby

blocks a pass with two hands, then what he did on that thirds one…… I don’t think you can say that on BEdge

Felton to Email?

Porter, Drexler, Kersey, Williams, Duckworth. The greatest starting 5 ever.

Called it.

But we don’t have Dre :(

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

For those of us calling Bobcats really bad. Although they are really bad..

we are a lot likely to be putting up 35 pts in a half on the road this season as well

3 questions remain in this game

1. Can Babbit get more Chalupa points?

2. Will the Blazers score 120, or will they settle for 110?

3. How many E-Will highlight dunks?
