Buckner: Blazers F LaMarcus Aldridge Has "No Reaction" To Brandon Roy's Surgery

Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge reacts to Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy's latest knee surgery.

Candace Buckner of The Columbian reports that Portland Trail Blazers All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge had only a brief answer when asked for his reaction to Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy's recent knee surgery.

LaMarcus Aldridge, the other holdover [besides Nicolas Batum] from the Roy era, expressed only slight concern about his former teammate.

Though Aldridge was not as brazen as the small boy, who with his sign was wheeling the moving truck away from the B-Roy era and towards the Blazers' new love, he also made it clear where current allegiances lie.

"I didn't even know about it, but I have no reaction," Aldridge said, when asked for his response to Roy's surgery. "I feel bad for him, but I'm trying to focus on this team."

Since Roy's release in December 2011, Aldridge seems to have gotten fairly reticent, maybe even a bit detached, in his comments about his former teammate. Reading this made me think back to All-Star media availability in Orlando, when Aldridge was quite curt in response to many questions about Roy, and how he had assumed the franchise player mantle during Roy's retirement. He's mentioned exchanging text messages a few times, but he evaded one question in Orlando about whether the two had spoken on the phone after Roy's departure.

A lot of time has passed since then and he's had to answer questions about the transition for months now. Perhaps he's just tired of the questions. Perhaps it's simply been a cleaner break than we might expect for two guys who were linked to each other for so many years. Perhaps he just wants to be his own man with his own team. Perhaps it's something else, who knows. Once enough time passes, maybe we'll get an unfiltered Aldridge's take on the various developments from 2006 to 2011.
