Quick: Brandon Roy To Undergo Knee Surgery, Miss Rose Garden Return Vs. Blazers

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy will reportedly undergo knee surgery and will miss his return to the Rose Garden to face the Portland Trail Blazers next Friday.

Jason Quick of The Oregonian reports on Twitter that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that will prevent him from making a return to the Rose Garden to face the Portland Trail Blazers, his former team, next Friday night.

Brandon Roy will not make triumphant return to Rose Garden on Friday with Timberwolves: He will have right knee surgery this week.

Roy missed the last 4 games with knee soreness resulting from banging knees in the preseason finale vs. Milwaukee.

Roy will undergo an arthroscopy, the 7th knee surgery of his career, dating back to high school.

His full story is here.

Monday update: Roy's surgery was successful and the Timberwolves expect him to miss a month.

Back in July, Roy said he underwent blood-spinning treatment in his knees prior to making his comeback with the Timberwolves. Recently, Timberwolves GM David Kahn, who signed Roy to a 2-year deal this summer worth a reported $10 million, said that he was not surprised by Roy missing time due to injury. The early returns for Roy's play were not good.

While in Portland, Roy underwent arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees in January 2011 and he underwent surgery on his right knee in April 2010 to repair a slight meniscus tear. The Blazers released Roy using the amnesty clause in December 2011 and he spent the 2011-12 season in unofficial retirement.

Roy, 28, has averaged 5.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 24.4 minutes in his five appearances for the Timberwolves.
