Haynes: Unofficial Blazers Roster Cuts Have Begun

Steve Dykes-US PRESSWIRE

The Portland Trail Blazers have begun the process of trimming down to the 15-man roster limit for the 2012-13 season.

Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports that the first round of Portland Trail Blazers roster cuts, still unofficial, have been made, according to GM Neil Olshey.

The Trail Blazers will travel to Utah with two less guys electing to allow Dallas Lauderdale and Demonte Harper to go home with family before they are assigned to the team's NBA Development League affiliate, the Idaho Stampede.

"We didn't think it was fair to make them practice, because they weren't going to travel to Utah," Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey said. "We wanted a smaller traveling party. So we let them go home today because they've been here for like a month, so they can see their family and do whatever before D-League training camp opens."

Olshey said the organization will wait until Oct. 27 to make roster cuts.

Dropping Lauderdale and Harper would bring the Blazers' camp roster down to 18. Adam Morrison, Coby Karl, and Justin Holiday are all in camp on non-guaranteed deals. The Blazers need to get to 15 players by Monday, Oct. 29.
