Blazers To Cut Morrison, Karl, Holiday

Mike Tokito of The Oregonian reports that there will be no surprises when it comes to the Portland Trail Blazers' training camp cuts, as the team will waive the three players with non-guaranteed contracts: Adam Morrison, Coby Karl and Justin Holiday.

The Trail Blazers took the first step Friday toward finalizing their final roster for Wednesday's season opener when they informed Coby Karl, Adam Morrison and Justin Holiday that they will be waived Saturday.

The cuts will bring the Blazers' roster to 15, the league maximum. Portland will send in waiver paperwork to the league Saturday, but team officials informed the players after Friday's practice, and they will not take part in the Blazers practice Saturday.

Candace Buckner of The Columbian reports the same development on Twitter.

Pilato: Adam Morrison Should Consider D-League

Gino Pilato of Ridiculous Upside argues that Portland Trail Blazers forward Adam Morrison should consider the D-League rather than retirement if he is cut from Blazers training camp.

Now that Portland controls the basketball operations side of the Idaho Stampede, they could assign Morrison to spend time with the team working on his defensive skills all while being a quick phone call and short flight away from rejoining the NBA ranks with the Blazers. A stint with the Stampede in the D-League, against formidable offensive talent, would help Morrison develop his defensive skills.

There is no doubt that the Gonzaga product would kill it in the D-League, and at only 28-years-old, it isn't too late for the Pacific Northwest fan favorite to make a splash on the basketball scene once again, this time back in the NBA via the D-League.

Adam Morrison to hang it up if he gets cut?

Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports that Portland Trail Blazers training camp invite Adam Morrison is considering retirement if he gets cut during camp.

"I'm going to finish school and start coaching (If he didn't make the Trail Blazers roster)...I did the Europe thing and it just wasn't for me," Morrison told CSNNW.com. "Not saying the (Europe) culture or anything like that, (or) the people, it just wasn't for me. So, yeah, if it doesn't work out, I'm willing to look myself in the mirror and say, 'I gave it a honest shot' and turn the page. Do something else."

Morrison is in camp on a non-guaranteed training camp contract.

The Blazers have 19 players in camp with 15 players on guaranteed contracts. Four players will need to be cut so that the Blazers can get down to the 15-man roster maximum.

On Monday, Blazers coach Terry Stotts gave this assessment of Morrison's chances of sticking with the team.

Adam Morrison, everybody up here in the Northwest knows him. He has a legitimate chance to make the roster. We'll go through camp and see what happens at the end of October. The other three guys are filling out our camp. We brought them here because they are talented young guys. The likelihood of them making the team right now would be difficult. We have a certain number of guaranteed contracts but there's also the possibility, since we have the Idaho Stampede now, there's a possibility that now they are in our camp, we have their rights -- except for Coby Karl, his rights are somewhere else. For Dallas [Lauderdale] and Demonte [Harper] they have a chance to get better for this month and possibly continue their career with Idaho.
