Will a Blazer Make the All-Star Team?
As most of you know the NBA All-Star Ballots came out this week. I was pleasantly surprised to see that 6 of our blazers were named on the ballot for the Western Conference. However, I wanted to ask a question. Assuming that the rosters are set at 12, with a mix mostly between guards and forwards and a couple of centers, will the blazers have representation at the all-star game?
As much as I love the blazers and support them, I look at the talent in the WC and I am on the fence as to whether or not we will have someone from our team. Our best possibility will be LaMarcus Aldridge, especially if we have the best record going into All-Star Weekend.
Vote who you think will make it below and feel free to leave a comment on who we might replace on the all-star roster if we get someone to represent us that weekend.
thanks!

no "other" category for our 12th man all-stars? :)

LA gets in over Duncan from last year.
If he doesn’t, then the All-Star game is no longer about the best players now, but merely a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for guys like Duncan/Garnett/etc. who aren’t the same as they once were. I would love to see Wallace on the squad, too, as I feel he is deserving.
Batum Shakalaka
Agreed
Wallace is a special kind of player and is deserving of at least a consideration in the All Star game in the 3 spot. They don’t call him Crash without reason!
yup, I cast my vote for Gerald
since LA will obviously be an all-star, if only cuz he was snubbed hard last year

LA should get in this year
He’s got enough recognition over the past year, I think he’ll make it in.
FWIW right before coming here I had just submitted my LA-Crash-Felton-Wes-Camby ballot for the day (Sorry Nic)
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -- Albert Einstein
I've done nearly the same
It’s funny that we all know it’s a popularity contest, so instead of actually voting on who the best players are, I end up just trying to balance the votes
Wallace And LA.
The abundance of All star forwards in the west is gone…Not completly with Love and Griffin comin up. But if Portland continues to play good then I see no reason why the two headed monster of Wallace and LA cant get into the game, even if it need be by the coaches… Long as we stay up in the WEST!!!!!
Wallace.3.
It all depends on our record leading up to the ASG.
If we’re still on top, or near, of the west, both LMA and Crash will be coaches picks for the ASG.
The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.
Bring Back Dre.
i agree with a team's record
will (should?) play important role, but I only see us getting 1 in, if at all….
LA should replace Duncan, and Wallace should replace Melo
Here’s how it SHOULD look:
Guards: Kobe, CP3, Westbrook, Kyle Lowry (15p, 11a, 7r, 2.4 stl)
Forwards: Durant, Griffin, Dirk, Aldridge
Centers: Bynum, M. Gasol or Nene (Gasol has better stats, currently, but Denver has the better record)
Wild-cards: Gerald Wallace, Kevin Love.
The L*kers, with their current record, shouldn’t get 3 All-Stars, and Pau Gasol is the odd man out
More likely, Eric Gordon will make it over Kyle Lowry, Love and Dirk will be the back-up forwards, one of LMA and Pau Gasol will take backup C (the other getting a wild card), and the last wild card is a crapshoot at this point, likely to be decided by team record near the end of the month.

Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
I like your analysis,
however I wouldn’t call K Love a wild card. I hear the argument all the time “his team sucks” but KLove still plays against the best in the NBA and pulls down 20/20 nights. its crazy. you ask ANY nba player who plays against him and they will tell you how hard he works.
I think Dirk will pick up his play, I cant imagine him not making it unless Dallas just tanks.
I also see Gallo playing well and could be a wild card and you can’t skip over Rudy Gay right now.
I didn't mean "wild card" as an insult
That’s just the term they use. You have 5 starters and 5 bench, which each have to be composed of 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center. Then you’ve got 2 “wild cards” that can be any position. If I meant it as an insult, I would have made Kobe a wild card and Crash a starter ;)
And yeah, I’m hoping we remain in the top 1 or 2 teams in the West, and that Memphis sucks without Randolph. I think whether Wallace or Gay makes it this year will depend on which team has the better record. Like San Antonio last year, if you’re the best team in your conference, there’s no way they’ll give us only one All Star.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
and for reference
I am calling Galla a “wlid card” in the sense who knows if he can elevate his game to All-star status lol
Hahaha, they're like the wild card team
Rudy, Lawson, and Gallo are all capable of looking like All-Stars on any given night…and then laying a complete egg the next.

it was a joke last year
Blake Griffin? are you kidding me?
David Stern is a Bum
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
really?
this is just an absurd, naive or ignorant comment. Blake is top 5 scoring, top 7 rebounding and his team beat us.
Inappropriate Language!..
…and he was talking about last year when I happen to agree Griffin didn’t belong in the All Star game.
I don’t know how long you’ve been here on BE but that type of attack is kinda frowned on here.
#7... GO BLAZERS!!!
I apologize for being straightforward
i have been on here for 3 or 4 years, but he was name calling in his post lol. this is a post about who will make the all star game. not what happened previous years.
And his comment is confusing it doesn’t say blake griffin last year… it says last year was a joke. period… then blake griffin? then david stern. was david stern a bum last year? im confused. but again apologize for responding in the same manner
thanks
I appologize to whoever I might have offended in my comment about the commissioners judgement on putting Griffin in over Aldridge
However if being able to dunk over a KIA is all that it takes to get in an allstar game, then sadly I should be there too
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
rec! I wanna see the video :)
you didn’t offend me, i was just responding :)…. so follow up question, what about this year? blake or aldridge?
Aldridge
Blake Griffin looks like Kris Humphries with red hair
creeps me out
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
And just for clarification
I cant dunk OVER a KIA
but if you park the hood beneath the rim like he did
no problem
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
in regards to the Kia dunk
it far outpassed Dwight’s superman NON-dunk as the worst ever to win a slam dunk contest. The kia dunk is a lame, short takeoff dunk that any NBA player over 6’5" could have made, most of them even in in-game action. Add a marketing prop, and a ready-made campaign, and the whole thing was one big sham.
On that note – when did the “judges” for the slam dunk become completely on the take for this event? 5 years ago? Ten? That Kia dunk was about a 5 or 6 at best, and that’s generous. yet the judges seemed in my mind to have been ordered to give him the max.

To be honest, I really liked Dwight's non-dunk
Not necessarily all of the superman hoopla, but I think it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t fairly stunning to watch, if only because of his ridiculous athleticism and the ferocity with which he threw the ball into the net. That being said, though, it’s not like that single dunk won him the contest. He put together three or four great and creative dunks that year (his first dunk with his head behind the backboard and then batting the ball off the backboard in mid-air were both pretty amazing). Mcgee definitely got robbed last year, but also hurt himself with his last dunk just being a worse version of Blake’s previous. Still, nothing compared to the larceny in 2006 by Nate Robinson over Iguodala.
He didn't make the all-star game because he dunked over a Kia
he made it because of an eye-popping rookie season that saw some of the best first year numbers in NBA history. You can’t argue with the numbers he put up, especially comapared to Aldridge’s, and then call it a joke of a decision. That’s pure bias
"If I had a dime for every basket I made today, you'd still suck!" - from the book 'John Dies @ the End'
I respectfully disagree
He made the all star game for the same reason they changed the rules so a second year player could win rookie of the year
David Stern and his cronies have made this a joke
and while I dont blame Griffin, I would argue that the majority of knowledgeable basketball people will tell you that LaMonster belonged over Duncan, Love, AND Griffin
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
respectfully disagree
Love deserved the all star game. NBA players will tell you that much.
Between Blake and LMA it was a toss up, but Blake deserved to be there.
to be fair,
the Kia dunk didn’t get him IN the All-Star game, as it happened during the All-Star weekend.
That said, Griffin is a good young big guy, who is wayyyy overhyped because he does Shaq dunks

I am not saying that is what got him in
I am saying he got in for the very same reason

No Blazer will be voted into the all-star game, but LA will be a coaches pick.
So it doesn’t matter if zero or 12 Blazers are on the all-star ballot.

I said "made" not voted,
but I think it does matter because I don’t see any players not on the ballot getting picked to be on the ASG squad.
It shouldn't be up to the fans.
It should be a vote of the coaching staffs of each team. One vote per coach, three coaches per team. Leave the fans out of it.
I think the average BEdger has a better grasp of basketball than Kurt Rambis (though no longer a coach) or Vinny Del Negro

this I agree with totally
especially since in the new CBA (maybe STORYTELLER can verify) but i think that some contracts have all-star provisions in them triggering bonuses or something.
If the all-star game actually has financial meaning or incentive, then this should absolutely be taken away from the fans.

believe you're talking about the "Rose Rule"
which boosts max contract value for players who make multiple All-Star games on their rookie contract.
And I agree that if it going to carry actual importance, it shouldn’t be a pure popularity contest, similar to the MLB All-Star game, if you’re basing the World Series on an exhibition game, you have to have the best players, not just fan favorites, and crappy teams don’t deserve representatives.

Aldridge will be an all-star reserve this year...
So long as the Blazers keep winning. If we’re stay #1 in the West or withing striking distance by the time the rosters are finalized, Gerald has a shot too. People are going to have to start respecting these guys.
I agree with several comments already made...
-likely that no Blazer will be voted in
-likely that coaches will name LMA to the team
-fans shouldn’t be making the selections (coaches should)
-Stern is a bum (and a crook, IMO)
And I’ll add a couple of my own: if fans are going to continue to make the picks, they (we) should only be able to vote once. Sure, fans in bigger cities will have an advantage, but then, fans in smaller cities voting dozens of times makes an even bigger mockery of the whole process. Besides, bigger city fans can just as easily vote until their fingers fall off.
Second, I don’t like having to pick players for the Eastern squad. We should just be able to vote for who we want and skip the ones we don’t care about (you know, like when you don’t vote for judges or other elected offices you’ve never heard of or care about).
RCTID
You mean over Payton or Stockton
Hard too argue Strickland over those guys.
