Former Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez had the most Rudy Fernandez play of his career on Sunday night, tipping in a halfcourt heave by Denver Nuggets teammate Corey Brewer over his own head with his left-hand to score a quarter-closing buzzer beater.
The basket counted. Amazing.

I still believe Felton for Andre was the right gamble
but I’m glad rudy and andre found a home in Denver.
You keep using that word
I do not think it means what you think it means.

Well what are you calling incorribible
Is it his belief that Felton was the right move? I thought you were referring to Rage_quit himself and meant unbelievable or incredible or something.

I'm sure Denver fans will enjoy replaying that
When Rudy goes into his slump come playoff time, haha.
Rudy was decent in the playoffs for the Blazers, especially against the Rockets.

Average is a better description...
Which doesn’t cut it during the playoffs.

I prefer Rudy, but Rudy doesn't prefer the Blazers...
Crawford is the only replacement we’ve got.

It is true that before the start of last season he and his agent said some things,
but once the season started Rudy behaved very professionally and thanks to Patty he was able to change his mindset and began to feel better in Portland.
Actually a year ago Rudy said:
“I am very happy in Portland and I do not want to hear about a trade. If all continues as nowadays, maybe I would like to stay here for many years.”
if Rudy shot for us the last two seasons as well as he is shooting this season it wouldn't have been such a problem

I prefer the Rudy that arrived from Spain
BEFORE Trevor Ariza broke him.
"Coach said to always be careful around Greg, because Greg costs a lot and even the slightest amount of basketball can damage him." -- The Onion
Maybe he should stick to that kind of play...
and give up those off target 3’s…
Noticed that a team mate wanted to slap hands and Rudy was too busy playing the crowd…
Some things never change….

Whoop-dee doo.
Rudy is always good form something like that every one in ten games.

yes
i was visiting my family over the break and got to watch that game on their big tv. loved that play a lot. a really great insignificant memory
Kevin Harlan really made that play
He was super duper excited there.
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.
I watched that play in a bar in Chicago
I was 20 and had to sneak in.. But there was no way I was missing a Blazer game. I feel as though I was rewarded greatly. One pf my favorite blazer memories!

I came here to make that same comment
Not as clutch as Reggie Miller in New York, but still crazy awesome.

Rudy was more into the homerun play...
instead of working on the weak points of his game like defense and building up his strength to be ready for the long season and physical playoffs.
He’s like the kid in school who always practiced half court shots and dunks.
by odensraven on Jan 29, 2012 8:42 PM PST via mobile reply actions
He was always pretty decent at the anticipation steal
Unfortunately he was about 50/50 on those plays. The other 50% the guy would get past him, and then the scramble is on.
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.
actually, i think from his time in portland, his defense was the part of his game that improved the most
but then again…that’s not saying too much. he has always been a decent team defender though playing passing lanes and what not.

MMMmmmmm, Rudylicious.
I don’t miss having him on our team, but I do miss seeing him make plays like that. As long as he’s not doing it to us I’m happy to watch his highlight reels.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice they're not.
Well...
If we would have known Roy was gonna hang em up I think we would of kept Rudy. He would of had the minutes he needed and could of fought Wesley for the starting spot. Or, he could of played terrible. You never know with Rudy.

Good for Rudy.
I don’t hate the guy, just disappointed he couldn’t be more of what l’d hoped him to be.

Nice play...
But to call it the “most Rudy-like” of his career might be a stretch. He had some great Rudy moments as a rookie for us, including several from this game which come to mind, especially 0:35
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLTO_-_qG2U
And perhaps you were referring only to his NBA career, but keep in mind most of the world was first introduced to Rudy for this dunk in the 2008 Olympics on Dwight Howard, before he ever set foot on an NBA floor.

Its sure a good thing we not only downgraded from Andre Miller to Raymond Felton but also gave up Rudy in the process.

To be fair...
Rudy’s averages are the same or worse now as they were in his best days as a Blazer. Even with us he was always good for a few strong games mixed in with a far greater number of mediocre ones. He made an ESPN top 10-quality play tonight and had a solid all-around game, but the Nuggets didn’t even win.
Jamal Crawford, essentially Rudy’s replacement on our roster this season, has his inconsistencies but he’s a more complete offensive player with a capability to take over a game single-handedly that Rudy has never shown in the NBA. That will become an indispensible quality come playoff time.
"That will become an indispensible quality come playoff time."
Not often I see Jamal Crawford’s name mentioned in the same breath as playoffs.
Wish we could go back to when Crawford and postseason drought rolled off the tongue.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/phil_taylor/04/21/jamal.crawford/index.html
"I Am Mine"
Crawford was an integral part...
Of two Hawks playoff runs, helping them to second round appearances (featuring an upset of the Magic and a highly competitive series against the Bulls last year) as their primary weapon off the bench.
I find it funny that we are all remembering Rudy fondly
After we wanted his head on a stick last year. Rudy was awful last season. The man had trouble hitting open 3’s and was a defensive liability when he’d go after those steals. Sure Crawford turns it over sometimes but he takes big shots and can’t hit most of them

he is shooting less then 50%
your original post was correct.
can anyone find the video of that absurd broken play where the ball trades hands two or three times near midcourt and then Rudy picks it up and tosses in a runner?
http://blogs.thescore.com/tbj/2011/01/21/video-rudy-fernandez-guests-on-the-benny-hill-show/
TBJ linked it above but the video is gone now.
anyway I feel like that play is even more Rudy than the above. Awesome tip though.

I would say the most rudy like play
is either passing up a wide open three or bricking it.
I found it linked above or search youtube for rudy fernandez fast break
Its the one vs the clippers, brought to you by brandonmitchell
I think we all know the story:
Rudy was offered a 5 million dollars contract in Europe, but went to Portland for a 1 million salary (minus his buy out, basically for free).
He was literally “afraid of McMillan” before he went to Portland. That´s why Paul Allen went to Spain to recruit him.
Nate knew how to play Rudy with Sergio in the second unit.
Playing behind Brandon Roy didn´t help. McMillan´s style of play with Brandon and Rudy in the same unit was not the best fit for Rudy (doing a portland).
Before his second season the Blazers traded Sergio. When the Blazers recruited Miller he didn´t seem interested in playing with Rudy ( We were dreaming about lobs that never happened). There was another change at point and Rudy played with Blake for a while. It didn´t last either, because Blake was traded. Nate played Bayless at point in the second unit. Lets say Rudy didn´t get many good passes from him either. It was a mess.
Ariza fouled Rudy. Rudy suffered back pain for long stretches and finally needed spine surgery.
Rudy asked Nate to allow him to play the game the way that he thinks it fits better with his abilities, trust on him or whatever it was. Apparently Nate said No, and something as “Your problem is that you are a star in Europe and just another role player here”.
Rudy asked for a trade at a time the Blazers could have got fair value. Paul Allen said No.
Roy started having serious knee issues. The Blazers didn´t trust on Rudy, because they traded for Mathews (you know why they didn´t pick De Juan Blair in the second round: because at that point they loved them some any bust´s knees).
At the start of the last season Rudy asked publicily for a trade, just after having a Durantesque World Championship. The Blazers didn´t trade him either.
Rudy was a malcontent. He had a different basketball philosophy than Nate´s.
After following Ricky Rubio´s career these last two years, and watching Rudy playing under different coaches (Nate, three different Spanish National team´s coaches and George Karl), I can tell a coach system can make a lot of harm or good to a player´s confidence.
I blame the circumstances.
He had a very good rookie season playing as a three point shooter with the starters and
"I can tell a coach system can make a lot of harm or good to a player´s confidence."
Undoubtedly.
In Denver Rudy seems revived. He received a lot playing time, the playing style of the Nuggets might suits him more, and I guess it’s easier to play for George Karl than for Mcmillan.
For example, against Toronto, he achieved 5 threes! And yet is a little sad to see a player who recently played for your favorite team to play well for another team.
The truth is that right now he and Dre would be extremely useful for the Blazers.
Soon the two teams face each other and I am eager to see this encounter.
I don't remember
any info about Rudy asking Nate to play his style of basketball with Nate telling him he was basically a nobody and to go away. I was also un aware that Rudy asked for a trade before he did so through the media, and in that situation he didn’t ask for a trade, he did a Carmello, except he isn’t anything close to Carmello. Did I miss something or is this mostly just your take on the situation?
That comment came from a Spanish NBA journalist, who quoted Rudy.
Including Rudy´s reaction: “This dude (Nate) is not going to f*** me”.
That conversation fits with Rudy´s reaction in following games, passing up shots and basically quitting in playoffs, forcing Nate to play Bayless instead of Rudy. He got me mad at him at that point.
Link to the whole story, in Spanish.
THAT’S SO RAVEN RUDY
