E.W.
Am i the only on that thinks Sir Elliot deserves a chance at some minutes in this rotation? Every time he comes in garbage time he is electric and looks somewhat polished. Against the Suns he had a couple very nice semi Roy-esk step back jumpers.
I'm not sure where the minutes would come, as our guards are heavy, but im sure Nate could find some where to put him.
What does everybody think?

nice - somebody had to do it!
yeah, when EWill came in last night with almost a whole quarter I was instantly glued to the tele. I figured maybe he’d screw up a few times but I thought he did great all around.
I need more EWILL!!!!
Seems like it wouldn’t be too difficult to find a solid ten minutes in there somewhere…Work his way to starter-ism and blow up the whole league with highlights if nothing else.
What I wanna see is him in the dunk contest. If Rudy could enter I don’t see why Eliiot wouldn’t be eligible. Or am I missing something with that?

I much prefer E Will or E Dub to EW
It literally spells “ew” and is too many syllables. Just my $0.02 tho

There is something about Elliot
The thing about Elliot is that he is very confident and he really passes the eye test for me. We gotta see more though to know what potential EW has. Nate needs to give him sometime on the court. If he’s a suitable backup guard that really helps us make some decisions next year and may give us some options in trade talks. He is head and shoulders above Babbitt, Armon and Nolan those 3 seem lost to me but I guess Nate disagrees.

E. Will got badly stripped going up for a dunk after an offensive rebound.
as much as i like his energy, he’s playing during garbage minutes, which is like playing in a D-League game.
dunks are easy when the other team is hardly playing defense, lol. but saying that, he has hit a couple nice shots thus far.

yeah, that's true
he did get badly stripped. I’ll bet he’s losing sleep over it. Actually, now that you mention it, it’s kinda embarrassing. I hope there are no replays of that. But I can’t get it out of my head either.
But yeah, aside from being very badly stripped going up for that dunk, he has hit a couple nice shots; in garbage minutes D-League time.
dude, it was one of those strips against a rook
where it’s like… man he got so badly stripped you can just tell he aint gonna be nothin in this league. yeah. that kind of strip

lol, I guess i'll attribute these two comments
to (oh-so-clever!) sarcasm, but that’s what stuck out for me in watching Elliot play.
He got stripped on a very easy putback, and the only thing he did was put down a couple of wide open dunks, with no defenders around.
Which is more representative of his future play? Wide open dunks or being stripped around defenders?
Yes, he’s got a decent game, but he has yet to prove anything.
(it would be awesome if once in a while someone applied critical analysis and provided examples to reinforce their opinions, rather than offering silly criticisms of my comments based on speculation and sarcasm… i.e. “I’ll bet he’s losing sleep over it.” & “he got so badly stripped you can just tell he aint gonna be nothin in this league”)

The answer
None of it is representative of his future play. We are trying to extrapolate from almost zero PT. With how bad our guards have been we should give him a shot at earning some rotation minutes, IMO.

hey, I’m hoping he’s a future all NBAer, though the probabilities are against him

Sure the odds are against him
They’re again damn near every player in the NBA before they’ve played a meaningful minute in the league. I think it’s important to try to focus on what his weaknesses were in college and see what work he’s done to correct them since then.
He certainly has NBA level athleticism and skill passing the ball and on D, it’s just whether he can figure out how to get to places on the court where his strengths count for something. Armon couldn’t do that but I feel Elliot is both a smarter person and player than Armon, so I hold out more hope for him.

If strips under the basket on putbacks were the criteria for future stardom
there would be no stars.

Crawford's minutes!
Joking aside, I am less and less excited about Jamal. He can score, but when he is off, he still shootsand doesn’t appear to be able to impact a game in any other way. I appreciate the confidence, but he plays a one on one game from the Inbound pass. Plus, he turns it over a lot.
Also, Nic needs to square up on that screen and pop. Basic skills.
Errr
He’s so physically weak. Even against other garbage timers, he’s getting pushed around quite easily near the basket. Who exactly is he going to play defense on? He’s probably not fast/sound enough to stop PG penetration and he’s too weak to fight over/through off-ball screens on spot-up SG’s. Crawford at least is a hawk in the passing lanes and has freakish long arms to slow down dribble-drivers.
M, period. Fresh, comma.
Actually crawford has been
surprising to me on the D side of things. I’d heard he’s one of the worst in the league, but i see him playing “passable” defence most of the time. Not saying hes good, or even above average, but he hasn’t been awful either.

This is incredibly unfair to Rudy
Who has been a good defender for the best part of 2 seasons now.

it's possible
since I haven’t seen him play much for DEN (and he doesn’t play much), but in Portland he was strictly an off-ball help defender. He’d rack up gaudy steal numbers and when he would get stuck on a pick no one would notice because the basket actually comes 2 or 3 passes layer from a different guy who beat the rotation. I bet his D numbers don’t look too bad because he was taking Roy’s minutes (who last season had entirely given up on being a defender)
M, period. Fresh, comma.
There's no way...
You can call him physically weak after that put back dunk.
"Tommy: Did you hear I finally graduated?
Richard Hayden: Yeah, and just a shade under a decade too. All right. "
Down by 30+ and little time left
I don’t think the Suns cared to box out.
The kid is tough.
He plays physical. He finishes in the paint, and given a larger window of time, he would finish more in the paint. He D’s up and he will have a physical advantage in his matchups at any given time.
If you are physically weak
you don’t have a 40+ inch vert. Just saying.
His defense?
did you miss the block on telfair? lol
"Tommy: Did you hear I finally graduated?
Richard Hayden: Yeah, and just a shade under a decade too. All right. "
Total foul
Telfair was bleeding afterwards, but the refs no-called because they wanted the game to end.
This
The contact came as Williams’ had was down by his waist (Bassy’s face) well after the push off/clean block.
by Sabonis4Ever on Jan 29, 2012 4:38 PM PST up reply actions
That's was an offensive foul in any book.
Telfair’s arm extended out fully against Williams. It’s what happens when one player tries to go toe to toe with a much better player.
No foul there
Telfair got some fingernails raked across his arm after the shot as they were falling to the floor – but that kind of contact is not a foul.

What?
This isnt the WNBA. Players get scratched, bruised and beat up on a lot of no calls. This was another great no call. As Telfair pushed off, and EW blocked him, with a little contact. Don’t be Kobe..
"Tommy: Did you hear I finally graduated?
Richard Hayden: Yeah, and just a shade under a decade too. All right. "
What's the deal with Elliot William's haters?
He’s coming out of nowhere, and he plays for the Blazers. I don’t get it. What’s not to like. He’ll be getting spot minutes more and more because he’s earning it which is what McMillain asks of players.
Take the last game. The natural tendency in blowouts is for gaps to close. In the 4th against Phoenix it kept widening and Williams led that push. If you look at McMillain’s comments after the game you can tell that’s important to him. For that reason, he will look for more opputunities to get William’s on the floor, though it will be difficult to give him consistent minutes with this roster.
We don’t have any one else outside of Crawford that plays with that combination of ego and talent.. William’s is the real deal.

ad hominem argument
Saying that a commenter’s conclusions regarding a player are not legitimate because the commenter is a “hater” amounts to a logical fallacy. This kind of fallacious reasoning is sometimes referred to as an ad hominem argument.
It would be nice to see a reduction in ad hominem arguments on this site.

That's not at all what I was saying.
It’s not a comment to invalidate. It’s a comment that the general perspective is negative in a context that’s hard to believe there would be so many negative perspectives.
Homenima.
Next season
will be really interesting…does EW have enough to make Crawford expendable.
The team has some really big questions to answer in FA (Felton, Crawford, Wallace, Batum, Camby, Oden, Freeland) and it seems like the team is taking the future luxury tax hit very seriously. If EW could slide into that backup 2 role, that would make things easier on the team and the salary cap.
Or could Crawford’s minutes be split up between Nolan and Elliot. This seems more likely, but Nate seems to really like Crawford…the team may bow to his wishes (and watch Batum and or Oden say byebye!)

Damn just looked and Felton is shooting 36/19
I know he is doing some little things and he runs a nice pick and roll but man you could find a few handfulls of dleagers that could shoot better than that.
