Gameday Open Thread: Suns vs. Blazers
I don't know about the team, but I sure enjoyed a night off. It was a short break though. Tonight, the Portland Trail Blazers try to get payback at home against the Phoenix Suns (7:10 tip-off). Phoenix has been playing better on this road trip, but the Blazers have a bad aftertaste from their first meeting. Can Portland return the favor tonight?

Revenge will taste good today.. :P
But this was not so for Brandon Roy who listened to teammate Nicolas Batum, "You're an All-Star, a 3-time All-Star. Take the ball. They can't stop you. You just have to believe in yourself."

I’m thinking he needs introduced to Kurt and Craig early as early in the game as possible.

Time for another round of Crash Out: the Gerald Wallace drinking game!
The rules are simple…
1. Drink every time Wallace hits the deck.
2. Drink every time Wallace hits the deck.
3. Seriously, drink every time Wallace hits the deck.
Have fun, and try not to operate any heavy machinery after the game.

The Suns were rather abusive on our last visit to Phoenix.
I am not feeling at all sympathetic if they have a distinctly bad night.
Hope they do have a distinctly bad night.
The bet makers have Portland at -9.5 with a 76.7% chance of winning.
Aldridge for 40/20 anyone?
I want him to have a game like that this season.

Howdy-ho Blazerinos.
Anyone else having trouble with LP through their Roku? It cuts out constantly so I end up watching on my computer.
I think it must be your Roku, then.
I’m happy to help.
You should increase your bufferin.
And clear your cash. If that doesn’t help, reset the modem or invert your modulator.
I wouldn't bother.
I canceled cable last year so I can’t get LP on TV.
It’s pretty choppy and buffers constantly. It also quits after 5 minutes so you need to restart it.

He almost never scores, and he only plays like 25 minutes a game, so he plenty of energy to do nothing but crash the boards.
If he doesnt up his production a bit, I’d say we put him on the block.

what is remarkable in my mind,
is that it is that exceptional length is not such a requirement to play guard.
Point being there is a FAR greater population of guard size players in the general population.
That should be the easy place to find great talent, as opposed to bigs.
Our front court is decent. Similarly talented guards would be so nice.
I mean, look at all the talented young point guards in this league right now
you’d think with all the effort we’ve put into this we could’ve gotten one by now.
"Wide, girthy. Just like a Rhino. Sometimes my horns are visible."
Defense and shooting still appalling
from the guards. The bigs n forwards doing their jobs. Wings are too.
OUR GUARDS SUCK
Wow, did Felton just pass that ball to a Suns player?
And, as incredible as it is, Nash is running around Felton is not even there! Crazy, he’s not really running at a breakneck speed either. It’s a bad combo of Felton being a bad defender and Nash’s craftiness.
and people blame Crawford for everything when our starting guards continue to play like this ?
Crawfords the only one of the three that has had to change his game up to fit in .
Good Batum in the game for Matthews.
I hope McMillan read my email to him..suggesting this. He probably did.

After everything we’ve been through with big man depth and injuries….to be held up by a bunch of crappy “shooters” is just awful.
Wes is in his own head...
Or he just over performed last year. The guy is thinking instead of playing on the offensive end and its brutally painful to watch. Jamal is a chucker, but if there’s one thing I love about a chucker- the have no conscience. Miss it or make it the next shot is always as confident as the last one! Wes- see the ball…. BE … the ball… Or something like that.
"Wesley Matthews bounces around the court with so much energy he's a couple of glow sticks and some bumping house music short of being a human rave"... -Canzano
I'm still excited for this year because we are still a good basketball team that will go to the playoffs
But I can’t wait until free agency next season. So many options, so much flexibility.
I will tweet Matthews and tell him to square his shoulders.
May also suggest he look into whatever that tip was that Jason Kidd gave to Dirk during the playoffs last year…seemed to work.

Kinda sad that Crawford has a better two man game with Aldridge than Felton.
Well, at least this game.
Portland with a 3.5 minute scoring drought, during which PHX's only two points was a Hill 18 foot jumper.
Maybe we have Jamal and Ray switched around?
Jamal seems to pass to the starters just fine, better handles and shooting. Maybe Ray should come off the bench?
Yeah, Gerald! Damage your finger even more so you'll be out for the season! Man up!

I would have liked to see LMA take a couple more shots in the final 2 minutes. He had a good rhythm going.

its his role and he does what the coaches ask .I think he would love to pass for 3 quarters and then look to take big shots in the 4th but hes so good of a scorer the coaches always expect the guy to shoot
The fact that hes a GREAT bad shot maker actually makes the situation worse
by Willie Beamon on Jan 27, 2012 8:14 PM PST up reply actions
It doesnt matter how well he passes if in the next game LA is the only guy who can make a shot Nate is gonna look at Jamal and tell him to "go get buckets" lol
Hes always gonna take a heat check three no matter what but if Nate said jamal I need to you to be aggressive and focus on setting everyone else up he would be okay the problem is that at the end of the day hes still the second best natural scorer on the team
by Willie Beamon on Jan 27, 2012 8:19 PM PST up reply actions
yeah this
if he could keep the evil shot selection at bay he might actually work as a starting PG. He’s shown better passing and handles than Ray and he’s shooting better.

MISSING: Gerald Wallace
Tough, determined slasher who finishes at the rim with absolute ferocity. 1 time Slam Dunk Champion… Owner of 1 of the nastiest windmill dunks in the NBA… disappeared about 2 weeks ago.
Last seen missing lay ups in the NW and lacking a certain fortitude when it comes to finishing at the rim.
If found please return the Trail Blazers starting line up… unless he is still unable to finish at the rim. In which case please return to sender. Contact Mr. Michael Jordan for return address.

I play at the Y with sprained fingers regularly and i don't miss layups
……………………..and I’m 5’6
So what was the story before the injury?
Or do you all have memory lapses?? Don’t get me wrong… I LOVE Gerald.. borderline bro-mance but good Lord- go left handed!!!! Stop with the 2 handed finger rolls at the rim! That goes for LMA too!! When this team dunks they all ge fired up- they play with that extra aggression… if Wallace doesn’t want to dunk because his finger is sideways- FINE. Just finish strong! I don’t care about the stats— in any other game those blown bunnies at the rim can cost you big time… (reference Warriors game).
Finishing at the rim is something that has been staggeringly bad— the guy who I would count on not being part of the problem is Wallace.
Finish the bunnies- that is all that I ask :-)

Can't disagree
But I overlook somethings because it’s not like sheed where stupid mistakes happen because he doesn’t care, this wallace makes mistakes because he is always running in high speed..
I’d say he’s worked out fairly well for us..
Yep- and I love it!
Finish… at … the ….. rim. Bottom line.

Gerald Wallace has 12pts AT THE HALF on 63% shooting
That’s really freaking good. Just sayin!
