How much is too much
Wow, another swing and miss for the front office...this is becoming a pattern. I hope they truly do have something planned for Greg beyond the simple 1.5 mil...otherwise they are 0-3 (maybe 1-4 counting Crawford).
Got me thinking though, if I were to give the the benefit of the doubt and presume that Nic's agent was asking for too much (say 9 mil +) when to the Blazers just let him go (could they swing a sign & trade)?
The same could be said for Greg, Jamal, and Crash. Although I don't see crash getting much more than he has now (10 mil or so). In Batum's case, I don't think he signs for less than 8 mil, I mean Gallo got 10+ and Affalo got 7+ last year. In limited minutes Nic is playing like a top 15 SF in the league and there are plenty of teams who will be willing to spend on a young versitile wing with a great personality and plenty of untapped upside. So if 8 mil is a bottom, how much did Nic want, and how much did the Blazers offer...how can this be so hard?
Greg is a real exciting case. From his production, his value should be mid-level or less, but his upside might loosen some wallets. Are the Blazers even in the running, how much would they want to invest?
Jamal won't get more than 10mil (IMHO)...he just isn't consistent enough. Do you pay Crawford big money (Batum money or more) and leave Williams on the bench? Couldn't Williams shoot 35%/30% for far less money AND be a better defender? Nolan plays like a 2 anyway and he has shown real chucker tendencies...chuck away my friend and save the team millions of dollars!

big decisions
Wallace/Batum/Crawford…Nate would seem to prefer the old guys…regardless of production.
the three of them could top 30 mil a year

Talking to myself i guess...
…but unless Wallace signs for quite a bit more than he makes now (which seems real unlikely)
the team could sign:
Wallace/Batum/Crawford (28 mil or so),
pay LA, sign (13 + mil.),
sign Greg and Felton to reasonable deals (12-15 mil),
bring over Freeland (Splitter money 3-5 mil.),
keep the youth Smith/Williams/Babbit (4-5 mil),
resign Johnson and Mills (2 mil),
pay a rookie (2 mil),
and a couple of vets to fill out the bench (3 mil)
and be right around the luxury tax level…certainly not past that first 5 mil of luxury tax money where the penalty goes up. And really that penalty isn’t for a couple of years…so throw some bucks in there to resign Camby for a year or 2 (reasonably) if he’s interested.
I guess it all depends on that first group of guys and what the market makes of them.

28 million for one position
a back up sg and no allstars? we definitely have some tough decisions coming up
3 yr 27 mill front load on Wallace
4 yr 36 mill Batum
if we had to bring felton back 3-4 mill one year
Oden 2 years second year team option 15 mill
Crawford 3yrs 19-20 mill

Front loading a contract for Wallace is not a good idea
Since we’re trying to improve using capspace this summer, we need to maximize the money we have available. Backloading as much money as possible (by means of higher Bird-rights annual raises) is the way to go, if we bring back Wallace.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
i was thinking because he's a athlete not a 3pt shooter, not a Point forward
Basically not what Andre miller is, where he’s good but not because he’s athletic but because he’s skilled. I’m not saying Wallace isn’t skilled but he needs his athleticism to do a lot, that’s why its front load because he’ll start to lose that in the coming years.

Yeah, I'm just saying that front loading hurts our capspace now
and doesn’t help us in the future, since we’ll probably be over the cap with resigning Nic + other FA’s.
And I don’t fully buy the idea that Wallace is going to age fast, but that’s another story.

8 should be Nics ceiling
Affolo would be the perfect comparison. I bet his agent wants double digits and thats CRAZY for nic. Blazers are being very smart. If a team offers 10 he’s theirs.
Nic
is a better player than affalo with much higher upside

No he is not
He does have more upside but Affalo is far superior on the offensive end. He has great handles and decent court vision. More importantly he does it every night.
I would think.....................
that Wallace is a definite goner.
nico will be matched.
felton will have to prove it.
I still see greg in my dreams!
Camby might like to go for the ride!!
COMCAST SUCKS!!
