The Ethics of the Chalupa
Tonight on Talkin' Ball they had the discussion on the ethics of shooting the ball at the end of the game to give the Rose Garden fans a free chalupa. I think it is time for a change. I agree they shouldn't be shooting, and dribbling the ball till the clock runs out. It is just good sportmanship when you already have the W in the books.
I think it should be changed to what some other NBA teams do. It promotes the team to play defense, and not jack up shots to make the fans paying $100 a ticket for a free $1 chalupa. Most teams offer their free chalupa if they hold the opponent under 100 points. Isn't that more productive?

I agree it's time for a change...
and I swear every time the stupid chalupa chant starts we miss the shot! last night’s game the chant started, we missed. next time down the court, chalupa chant and…MISS! after that people shut the hell up and then what do you know BABS made a three pointer! people are more worried about us getting free chalupas (and geez they only cost a dollar) than they are about us winning and it’s annoying! i like the idea of it being about defense instead of about us getting that 100th point so that our game doesn’t get thrown off by the chant..then at least we’d be yelling for the other team not to score. i also think good sportsmanship is much more important than saving a dollar.
I think we should have the chalupa if we win by five points or more.
that way it isn’t dependent on pace at all, but just whether we managed to notch a solid win against the team we faced. also gets rid of the “consolation prize” chalupas that you get in losses.
Kill the Chalupa.
Fast food is gross, and it always takes forever to get out of the building when they give that crap away.
Doers & Makers > Movers & Shakers
Are you sure that most teams do that? I know the Lakers do that (give free Del Taco tacos if the Lakers win and keep their opponents below 100) but I didn’t know of any other team that does it. I definitely agree that it’s dumb and everyone who booed tonight when the Blazers didn’t make it to 100 should be banned from the RG
Definitely not most teams
I’m pretty sure us and the Cavs have the same promotion, and I know in recent years the Lakers one was for holding opponents below 90 in a win, but they may have upped that to 100. Those are the only ones I’ve heard about, though, but unless I’m wrong, it’s not too common either way.
a quick google shows the Sixers have something similar to us with Big Macs
too lazy and late to look up the rest, though.
Yeah, I have considered wasting a few minutes looking those up before too
I remember hearing the Cavs had one like ours because Lebron complained about fans booing over them not pushing to score over 100. Apparently the Bulls get tacos. Seems like the TBJ guys were just talking about this after Luke’s amazing quote from the night before last.
At the very least
I think we can pretty safely conclude that most teams don’t have a promotion related to defense.
I wasted a few minutes looking things up
It’s not surprising that the Cavs have the same deal. As far as I can tell, the local Portland Taco Bell franchise (Pacific Bells, Inc.) also manages restaurants in Ohio.

just change the promo entirely
free widmer if the blazers shoot over 40% on threes
free fotm wings if the blazers get 30 assists
free jumbaco if wallace scores less points than his last road game
free bacon maple doughnut at voodoo if felton never dribbles onto his foot.
free ipod for every pass felton completes after a crossover dribble.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
I like chalupas as much as the next guy,
but the people around my seats last night were hilarious. You would have thought it was game 7 of the finals. They were SCREAMING for a three at the buzzer when we were up by 20.
What’s more ridiculous though, is when the Blazers radio broadcast gives a player a $50 gift card to Qdoba. I understand that Qdoba wants to sponsor a “player of the game” segment, or whatever it is, but why are you giving a gift card to a guy that just made $100k for playing two hours of basketball. Give it to a listener or a fan at the arena.
