The only thing I can think of...

is not that she didn’t have a visa, but that she failed to file for or renew the travel approval necessary to qualify for the Visa Waiver Program. According to the guidelines, such approvals need to be obtained before the date of travel but are valid for 2 years…

The TSA is a joke I worked airport security a long time ago. The metal detactor quit working so since I was in charge of the security post I was wand inspecting when an FAA guy came by. I told him the metal detetor was not working. So I was fired by the security company because they thought I should not of told FAA that the metal detactor was not working

This Makes no sense at all...

France (and all other nations in the European Union) falls under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. Unless his mother holds a passport from somewhere other than France that does not, she would never need a visa in advance for such a visit. Sounds like an abuse of authority on the TSA’s part.

Evidently one of the questions for the potential TSA employees in the interview is “do you currently or have you kicked your dog after a rough day”. If you answer no end of interview. Your not qualified.
