Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Pistons
A tired Blazers team got their lunch money stolen in the first half by the aggressive Detroit Pistons, leaving them with a 11 point deficit.
Can the Blazers muster up the energy to come back and finish the road trip at .500? Hang out here and discuss the second half. -- Tim

BLAAAAHHH.
I don't always root for an NBA franchise, but when I do, I prefer the Portland Trail Blazers.
I'd like to be optimistic, but....
the Blazers looked completely disinterested.

Yeah one nice run and it's tied
Of course, one nice Pistons run and it gets ugly, so there’s less margin for error.

Detroit's offense will probably dry up long enough for us to make it a close game in the 4th
I don’t think they can keep this up forever
Its not their offense
it"s the Blazers D.

Stop this nonsense, it’s really infuriating.

Stuckey was shooting like 35% before this game lol
Letting him dunk off offensive boards all night has him looking pretty good. We need to shut down the paint and work through LMA on offense. If we do that this game is over early in the 4th.
I’m not gonna even watch our next 3 games… Wednesday is gonna be brutal.

Seriously, what the hell are we gonna do going forward?
We’re going to have the same exact team next year with maybe a marginal PG upgrade.. We’re going to keep making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first or second rounds for the foreseeable future.
I had being a middle of the pack NBA team. It’s pure purgatory.
thats our reality
Paul Allen doesn’t want to go into rebuild mode, so we are stuck in NBA Purgatory unless we find a miracle

The “foreseeable future” is not forseeable. Teams change so much from year to year. How many players are left from our roster three years ago?

Blazers are +7 in the Foul Category
This is the NBA, the refs will happily even that up before the end of the game if the Blazers come out aggressive.
Of course LMA has 1 rebound. He just has to keep that mediocre average. He'll end the night with 2 boards to keep him at his average
of around 8 boards.
I said last night
That he only did the 23 thing last night so he could coast the next few games and his average wouldn’t suffer…it was supposed to be a joke…

I really like Lawrence Frank.
I think he’s underrated, though Detroit’s start made me question that.
He kept 'em relevant I believe
He got canned when they lost their players and went on that huge losing streak to start the season, all while the players were yelling “don’t fire him!”
Yeah, he took over when Byron Scott got fired mid-season in 2004.
It’d be like if the Trail Blazers fired Nate McMillan and promoted Kaleb Canales out of nowhere.
"I Am Mine"
Yeah, Aldridge averaging so little rebounds semi-regular kind of looks bad.
I don’t watch the Timberwolves or Clippers games, do Griffin and Love get doubled as much as LaMarcus?
If they post deep.
but aldridge floats out more, leaving himself to get doubled

Batum with 2 bad bad plays.
Pass out of the open shot to the contested one with no time. Then not fouling the easy break.
Barium has been shooting bad all night. Wish Crash could have gone…

Stuckey is playing the Blazers
They have that effect on lots of players.
just tuned in to this paint drying fest.
any reason LMA has friggin 2 rebounds after having 23!?
Some are arguing regression to the mean,
but I’d argue aggressive Pistons rebounding, lesser rebounding attitude, and a reduced physical presence when he got called for two early fouls, one of which was a poor call as he went for a rebound.
I remember the days when ugly was our secret weapon
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
this games on LA
all those rebounds they got were his.
That was a nice move by Aldridge, but he should have gathered after he beat his man of that dribble move.
He really rushed it and it got swatted.

Remember when we had Brandon, and we'd score late in games but concede as well?
We are now the opposite.
Craig was a huge positive. Wish he'd passed the ball out instead of taking that jumper.
May have changed the game.

Blazers shooting like crap. back end of a back to back on the 6th game of a road trip. Pistons playing way better then usual
But the Pistons are on the second of a back to back too.
And at least in theory are far inferior.

someone fire the blazer's shooting coach
although if our training/medical staff is any indicator, the poorer we shoot the higher his job security
The failure to make a three point shot and Crawford trying to take over the game killed
us, you can’t always blame defeat on the refs… it works both ways.

Ditto. Their stats looked better than expected when working on the recap.
The Pistons came to play and the Blazer defense has been a little lazy.

Ramond Felton Strikes Again
Anyone else tired of this moron’s sloppy play? Why was/is everyone so high on this guy…he is more out of control than Bayless was with the basketball…
…gimme dre/Bayless/johnson back any day.

I was sad we let Dre go, nobody was higher on him than me

tired of this garbage
really felton turnovers and come on nate take crawford out of the game dude gets called for carrying then miss two buckets in a row…. at least it was nice to see smith step it up and where did batum go after scoring 10 points in the first half? these inconstant are why they will never be better then they are
I can imagine that roster adjustments will
be done after this horrible road trip. If something doesn’t happen, blame the coaching staff on that. One cannot keep the same line up and carry on throughout the season like everything is fine.
Ray is the goat?
How about Batum making dumb plays, shooting bad. What about Wes having a bad game. What about Prince doing the splits for the ball to be kicked.
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.
by SGT Lenny on Jan 21, 2012 7:12 PM PST via mobile reply actions
not his first rodeo
he plays out of control, turns the ball over way to much and is probably the last person on the team I want with the ball in his hands dribbling or shooting when the game is tight and there are a few ticks left on the clock.
If it was his first, I wouldn’t be a big deal, but the dude is out of control; not exactly the ideal trait of a starting PG I would think nor expect anyone to defend.
We might lose some guys for a couple consistent shooters real soon
The offense hums along when someone is hitting from the perimeter. We look like crap when the defense is packed in and we still need to force the ball into LMA to try and salvage some offense. No mistake though…had LMA been getting calls we would have beat Detroit.
Basically our guards are failing epically. Kurt, Craig, LMA, Camby…all doing a pretty solid job. We$, Jamal and Ray not getting the job done consistently enough. Same with Crash and Nico too lately.
Swap some guys for someone that can shoot and suddenly we’re a pretty decent team. Suddenly Aldridge becomes near unstoppable against 24 out of 30 teams.
