Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Raptors

UPDATE: LaMarcus Aldridge headed to the locker room with a strained back in the second quarter, but is back in the game.

Back to the road trip! This afternoon, the Portland Trail Blazers visit Toronto to play the Raptors (4:10 tip-off!). The Raptors are not a strong team, but they're playing at home. On the other hand, the Blazers closed the locker room doors for a players' meeting, and are back at full strength. So stay inside, keep warm, and enjoy an early Blazer game. Can they pull out a win?

Injury report: Marcus Camby and Nicolas Batum are both expected to play tonight in their normal roles. For Toronto, Andrea Bargnani is active but not expected to play, and former Blazer Jerryd Bayless is inactive.

But

he will be able to accept the team option on Babbitt’s contract, who until it is over must do whatever the eye donor commands…

Closed door meeting means mo’ Aldridge mo’ Aldridge mo’ Aldridge tonight.

Did I mention we’re going to see mo’ Aldridge?

LaMarcus' brother Mo

I’m picturing somebody like Felix Hernandez’s alter ego Larry Bernandez.

LMA can duck into the locker room and put on a wig and goggles and check into the game as “Mo Aldridge”. He’ll stay in the paint, get rebounds, scream and yell at the refs, etc.

here's an update

Joe Freeman
Andrea Bargnani (left calf) is active, but will not start tonight for Raptors. Former Blazers guard Jerry Bayless (left ankle) is inactive.

Pretty bad in Benton County.

Osu campus closed today which means… no class for us!

But this was not so for Brandon Roy who listened to teammate Nicolas Batum, "You're an All-Star, a 3-time All-Star. Take the ball. They can't stop you. You just have to believe in yourself."

Over/Under 8 minutes PT for Nolan Smith

I think this one is interesting. "Blazers head coach Nate McMillan has said that Nolan Smith “played well enough (Wednesday) night to earn (more) minutes.”
The rookie PG was on the floor when Portland went on a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter against the Hawks Wednesday night. Smith is only averaging 2.7 points and 0.9 assists per game this season, so the biggest takeaway here is that it may take a few minutes per game away from Raymond Felton, who has been disappointing so far this season. Aldrige has to rebound and back tap offensive rebounds better & Block Shots

He can not expect to be an All-Star PF in the West while his rebounding numbers are below 10 rpg with Blake and Love averaging 13+ rpg and 2 blocks per game. He should be more aggressive and not worry about the fouls so much. Craig Smith should be playing 10-15 minutes and Gerald can man the 4 for 6-8 minutes a game.

by TheOdenator52 on Jan 20, 2012 4:03 PM PST reply actions

he spends too much time on the perimeter

setting picks for PnP, if Gerald and Craig are playing 20+ minutes at PF, you only want Aldridge to play 28 at PF?

Let's make this blowout huge.

if we keep going at this rate, 40 points more than the raps would be nice.

His worst NBA game was against the Raps, when Calderon picked a hole in his pocket.

On a side note

Does anyone else think its ridiculous they give gift certificates to the players they interview on wheels show after the game. give a gift certificate to a guy whose making millions for dong a short little interview seems like a waste. Why not give it to a fan who really could use it.

Sorry thats been annoying me

like what kind of gift certificate?

by Cjones10 on Jan 20, 2012 5:08 PM PST up reply actions

ya they should be giving them away to the fans of the show for sure. They don’t need em.

Did you happen to see the article about Wade getting a FREE brand new Mclaren?

They even used a crane to hoist it into his party as a surprise. Insane how rich people get such great free things.

by Devyn on Jan 20, 2012 5:09 PM PST up reply actions

I actually don't mind if a player gets something specifically for a product to endorse him

But they are just giving a gift certificate to get their name on the radio. They could easily do that and help the fans out

by Kazper on Jan 20, 2012 5:12 PM PST up reply actions

Shoulda traded Rudy for him

The we never would have ended up with Felton
