Who is the Tim Tebow of the NBA?
Alright.. I know you've all been thinking it, so I decided to get a thread going on it: who is the Tim Tebow of the NBA?
I think the criteria is simple: it has to be a player who everyone thinks is terrible or possibly unorthodox in his style of play, but continues to win games.
I'll get the ball rolling: Tyler Hansborough (shoutout to breakerfall): not mentioned in many circles at all as having the skills to be one of the best players of all time, yet he's an insane gym rat who continues to produce.
A few other names come to mind: Joakim Noah? Luke Ridnour?
State your case below.
-Brandon

The answer is thankfully no one.
Yet, the closest is Jimmer Fredette.

yep. i think there is a case to be made for jimmer, at least from the college perspective as he continued to win games.

agreed. If the Kings were running up a flukily good record on the strength of a number of close wins, he’d be perfect.

gohay fits that pretty well
though he was a pretty high pedigree prospect.

Tyler Hansbrough without question imo
"If I had a dime for every basket I made today, you'd still suck!" - from the book 'John Dies @ the End'
UNC Basketball = Florida Football
- insane college resumes
- insane win outputs
- same cliches used to describe them
- same will-to-win intensity
- both first round draft picks who were “reached” for due to questions about translation of their games to pro level
- constantly in college spotlight over course of career
I just think Tyler Hansbrough at UNC was to NCAAB what Tebow at Florida was to NCAAF. They were the respective poster boys for the same reasons over much of the same time frame, and they are both achieving some level of success, perhaps a little surprisingly, at the pro level.

both have unparelleled work ethics as well.

Bismack played Dwight Howard quite well the other night.

Perhaps even Metta World Peace-
Tthe artist formerly known as Ron Artest thanking Jesus for the fact that our teeth fall out when we are babies, not when we are in our 20s.I think we can all agree with that. We should all do a quick Tebow…

Yeah, but Russell was player/coach for a time
Those wins count double.

I think a case could be made for Durant as well
Great in college, but people thought he wasn’t athletically gifted enough for the NBA, his body type was too skinny…

Lol, I don't think anyone worried about it too much!
He and Oden were the most talked-about draft picks of the last decade.
Dasagna Diop--at least when he was on the Mavericks..
was a little unorthodox in his style, but played well when he was with the Mavs

NBA generally embraces unique playing styles more than the NFL though
so even guys who play differently aren’t really a phenomenon.

sure--that's why i put in Joakim Noah--he's a rare breed, but a winner!

Psycho T
I don’t like the Psycho T call only because I think the guy is a freaking BOSS! but it makes sense.
Ron Artest is a really good call. for the past three years but it may not be applicable this year.
The problem with the Jimmer call is that his team isn’t winning. Same with Gordon Hayward.
Kevin Martin is a interesting thought though.
Jazz are winning. Better record than the blazers in fact.

Assuming he means K-Mart due to his unorthodox (read: hideous) yet effective jump shot and overall offensive game.
he's a borderline winner though

then maybe shawn marion is a good option
probably the ugliest shot in basketball, and yet it always goes in. doesn’t have the star power aspect of tebow, though.
Hansbrough for now,
and Jimmer is TIT (Tebow in training)
Soon people will be asked if they have “Jimmered” in public recently.

because the blazers need to be winning before we look for any comparisons..
zing! jk—GO BLAZERS. We don’t need a Tebow-type player.

I would say Kevin Love
Polarizing as he entered the draft, sort of the opposite in terms of athleticism vs skill, but he’s definitely a guy who seems to constantly get it done despite what everyone said was his achilles heel (lack of athleticism)
Apparently not giving up on Brandon or Greg paid no dividends. Whatever... Go Blazers!!!
Unorthadox mechanics, not lack of athletiscm
is what Tebow’s issue is. Tebow is about as athletic as NFL QB’s get aside from a Cam Newton(Who in his own right can be called the NFL’s Tim Tebow"
"We gotta get this $#!^ together guys!" - Phil
right
That’s why it says “sort of the opposite in terms of athleticism vs skill”. Sorry if that was unclear.
They’re criticized for the opposite reasons: Love was too unathletic and his BBIQ could not overcome his slowness and lack of jumping ability.
Tebow is a freak athlete, but they say his mechanics won’t allow him to become a real winner.
Both takes are not true.
Apparently not giving up on Brandon or Greg paid no dividends. Whatever... Go Blazers!!!

Both Love and Teebow are very athletic.
Love just looks kinda chubby but his play and his combine numbers represent a guy who moves like a SF in a PF/C’s body.

I don't know who Tebow is, but the Blazers, as a team, are Tony Romo
Always throwing away games and not capitalizing on the talent they have.

Phase 2: ???

If sacremento was getting wins
it would be Jimmer Fredette
The tensions are so high because the stakes are so low!
It's easy and right in front of you
it’s Andre Miller. Unorthodox style for a point guard, not stellar numbers, but capable of willing his team to wins. Also point guard/QB is a good comparison in its own right. Tebow got his team to the playoffs in much the same way that Miller got the 76ers there a few years ago. Got all the physical tools, but for some reason his form is all kinds of messed up on the three, just like Tebow doesn’t seem to do well on the long throws… Just sayin, Tebow is the NFL’s Andre Miller.
Except Tebow has made it to the 2nd round
Miller has not.
AC Green
If he was white, the media would have blown him up to the sky. The 40-year old virgin.
Thats BS by the way
I went to church with the guy and knew him in Corvallis.
J,J. Redick
Had his number retired at Duke. Won ACC player of the year, John Wooden Award, Naismith Player Of the Year Award. He still owns multiple records at DUKE. His game didnt really translate well into the NBA. Maybe drafted a little too high.
Thats my thought.
you beat me to it! He's the clear front runner now.
