Greg Oden misses 290th game
Following the Blazers loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Greg Oden sat from the bench and watched his teammates play for the 290th time in his career without seeing any action. The former #1 pick out of Ohio State has been snake-bitten with many injuries throughout his career with the Portland Trail Blazers. On Feb. 4th, against the Denver Nuggets, Oden will reach the 300 mark. Now, if you are a bowler, the 300 mark is something desirable, but for Oden that number will be anything but.
Greg Oden has now missed 260 regular season games, 12 playoff games, and 18 preseason games.
Here is Greg Oden by the numbers-
391: The total number of games the Blazers have played since he was drafted by the Blazers. The total includes 342 regular season games, 31 preseason games and 18 playoff games.
76: The percent of games Oden has missed including pre, regular, and playoff games in his career.
23.5: The amount in millions Greg Oden will have earned received from the Blazers at the conclusion of this season.
$391,666,666: Greg Oden has started 60 regular season games, they have paid him over $390,000 for every start he has made in the regular season*.
$78,000: The amount Oden has been paid (*assuming he doesn't play this year) for every regular season and postseason FG he has made, which is 301 total FGs made.

some of those FG's were pretty memorable
in fact some the dunks could be worth at least 30k IMO.

I'm there with you
that seems pretty crazy. The guy just started running, like a month ago he wasn’t even doing contact drills. Yet he’s going to be playing in games in a few weeks? I find that highly unlikely.
Poor old filthy rich Greg Oden.

I am sick of this Oden situation just like everyone else
But it seems people are implying he is abusing the Blazers generosity. He was a #1 pick. He was guaranteed the money. Don’t blame Greg for the lottery pay scale. His injuries are not because he is indignant, ungrateful, ignorant, dumb, fat, or lazy. I am sure he’d much rather be shooting a basketball on national tv instead of doing pilates all day.
i like it here, there, everywhere.

Yeah and if they want out of the deal, they have a funny way of continuing to offer him money to stay.
People seem so personally afflicted by him and his situation and it doesn’t make sense to me.
Cue a million rants about stuff we already know…

Im not saying he was abusing the system
I just found it crazy that he has made nearly 400,000 per NBA start. Or 78,000 a FG. Sometimes it’s just mind boggling looking at numbers when you break them down and how they work out sometimes.
I would love for Greg Oden to return and help the Blazers, I personally just don’t see him playing this year though.
The one that gets me
is just the rookie contract total, and how little he did to earn it. I won’t make $23mil in my entire life. He made more for each basket than I earn in a year. I don’t blame him, and I guess in a way he “earned” it, just while at Ohio State on the way to becoming a #1 pick. Still, different scales of money are boggling.
Scales of money
are based on rarity of skills.

Who wants to get in an argument with me
about the term steam punk. Ugh. Puke, hold it in…… Swallow………. Double puke.
Awful.

Bleh.
I really don’t even want to care to explain it, because doing that gives it too much attention. If you want to be true to the definition, these people attempt to appear to dress like they are in a fictional trans-chrono world where steam basically powered everything in the world, to an extreme manner. Though most Portlander’s often lazily associate it with Industrial Design furniture, the true nature of this awful adjective is supposed to look something like this clown:

I'm so done with this!
Please no more Oden posts. It just torment’s Blazer fans. Let’s talk about him when he plays again. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be for us.
Oden most disappointing Blazer ever
Lets give Sam Bowie a break Oden has passed him and moved to the #1 spot as the most disappointing Blazer ever. In Bowies five seasons with the team he played in 139 games averaging 28 minutes, 10.5 pts, 8.3 rebs, and 2.5 blks per game. Oden has played in 82 games averaging 23 minutes, 9.3 pts, 7.3 rebs, and 1.4 blks and even if he manages to actually play in a few games this year he is a lock for that #1 spot, great job Greg congrats.

I'm sure he tried really hard for the title, it must've been his biggest goal in life

Oden owes it to the Blazers to rehab/play on a minimum deal from here on out
Oh, wait, he kinda is.
Stop whining, people.

Nice perspective.
$390k/game…insane…proffesional sports….one game more than 5-10 yearly teachers salaries….how did we get here?
More absurd: $78k per fg…almost 4 times my yearly salary for an act that took 1second.
Think about it.

Don't mean to be degrading
but if 78k is 4 times your yearly salary, you aren’t making as much as the average American. Greg has talents that less the 1% of Americans posses and should be paid for those talents, as that is what our pay grades are based on, talents/skills that aren’t easily found. Sure these numbers are crazy, but they are also no where near any averages.
He turns 24 in a couple of days.
If he was in his thirties it might be time to give up on him.
yeah well then I'm a troll too
Because I share the sentiment expressed in this fanpost and feel inclined to contribute some sarcasm and snarkiness of my own.
But frankly I’m simply tired of the Oden saga. The dude is likely not going to play again. That is the sad reality if we just go by the percentages. If the percentages are somehow wrong; if he manages, through Herculean effort, to play a portion of a season again, the most likely outcomes are: 1) disappointingly poor play on the court, due to rust and debility, rawness, and low b’ball IQ; 2) tentativeness, due to the fear of recurring injuries; and 3) recurring injuries.
Sorry, but these conclusions are based in objective analysis of Oden’s injury history.
Ok I changed my signature. Do you like it better now?

"these conclusions are based in objective analysis of Oden’s injury history."
If by “objective analysis” you mean “anecdotal opinion”. Pretty sure objective analysis’ need to have some actual data to back them up, not just the assertion of ‘objectivity’.
By comparison...
Bill Walton’s Portland career:
Played 209 out of 410 regular season, 21 out of 28 playoffs; 208 total games missed.
Sam Bowie’s Portland career:
Played 139 out of 410 regular season, 12 out of 24 playoffs; 283 total games missed.
What’s sad by comparison is at least Walton had 1.75 seasons of dominance, and even Bowie had a promising rookie season (76 games, 10pts, 8.7 rebs, 2.7 blks, got to 2nd round of playoffs).
At this point I’m just hoping for a glimpse out of Oden of his awesome potential, and we haven’t even had that in his NBA career.
