Teams ability to trade for Dwight Howard looks unlikely...
What are the Blazer's chances of having the salary cap space this summer to sign him or Daron Williams? It appears Dallas is looking to trade the Matrix for more expiring contracts to create the space to sign both Howard and DWill. Outside of overpaying for one of them, how could we possibly compete with a market like Dallas in recruiting free agents? Are there any Eugenites who have the answers for this or is this a question for the the team President (former Uncle Phil exec)?

We can't compete with big markets.
There are plenty of center options besides Howard(Roy Hibbert!) who can with the proper supporting cast do well enough against Dwight in a 7 game series to defeat whatever team they are on. Same goes for Deron Williams and the PG position, we just need to be able to defend them well enough & play as a team.
Though the thought of a D-Will/Nowitzki/Howard lineup gives me shivers. But you could say the same for any lineup with Howard lol.
I think Derron Williams has more of a chance
coming here then DH. But do we really want him? It seems he was the reason one of the best coaches in history, Jerry Sloan, quit AND Utah still traded him. Good player but since all that happened I have lost interest in the guy.
I think that is too high. I'm less optimistic.

None of the biggest free agents will come to Portland unless we are close to a conference championship.
I think the more interesting idea was if Portland was the “help” team in a 3- or 4-way trade receiving some first round picks for an expiring contract. It would blow up this year, but along with other moves might position us well for the draft and next year’s free agents.
