Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hornets
[Knocks on your monitor] Wake up! Hey, wake up, to a happy day!
Good morning! The Portland Trail Blazers vow to get back on the winning track at Noon today, against the New Orleans Hornets. Jarrett Jack will look to wreck havoc upon the Blazers. Can he do it? Or can the Blazers finally get back in the "W" column after a long week?
Injury report: Marcus Camby (ankle) will not play, and Kurt Thomas will again start in his place.

This is like the second-earliest GDT I've done
Pretty sure we had a 10am game against the Wiz a while back.
Nope, Detroit was a 3pm game
This is the earliest, the next-earliest was the LAL game a couple years ago where Martell got fouled on a three attempt and won the game.
BTW I'm pretty sure the Blazers usually come out less-than-sharp on early games
Especially when it’s on the East Coast.
Well this should be interesting.
New Orleans surprisingly has a huge size advantage up front with the big man duo of Okafor and Kaman with Landry coming off the bench. Without Camby, we’re running pretty thin and Wallace should have his hands full trying to guard the much bigger Okafor.
Still, without Eric Gordon I hope that we have enough offensive weapons in our back court to defeat them.
Lets go Blazers!
The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

I think Portland will finish this trip with 3 wins straight, ending up .500 for the trip.
A lot of people figured they’d break even, so there wouldn’t be anything alarming jet yet.
So we're not going to win this game?
We still have 4 games left on this road trip.

Ever hear about the story with someone negotating a sale with Tom?
Tom told them he needed to discuss it with the rest of management, and went through a door into a separate room. A few minutes later he came out an said he convinced them, and completed the sale. Later, the person went over to check out the management room. It was a broom closet.
Anyone using Blazers streaming today?
I got word that they’ve been working on the system to fix some of the problems.
I'm trying to...
…but am having problems once again. The past couple of games during the free trial have worked fine, though.
What kind of problems? Certain errors?
I can confirm they’re actively working on these problems, and have already made some changes. I can pass along your feedback. If you want to explain privately, it’s also cool to mail me.
I was able to stream the "free trial" games successfully.
Now, when I try to purchase a game, I get a message that says “Area Not Supported: Thank you for your interest, Currently, the online service is unavailable in your area.
According to our system, postal code of your location is:” And then it doesn’t even list a zip code.
Just chatted with a customer service person
Looks like I’ll be able to get in after all. Which I didn’t have to jump through all these error messages, though.
Not sure
Customer service rep said, “Please try now,” and voila. Got the game going right before tipoff.
maybe for mone they get motivated ?

It's a national holiday, so I think the NBA takes advantage of that

I guess im not a fan of overly homer announcers
I prefer watching national broadcast cuz i like a fair view of the game, not one thats one sided
The National coverage does have one bias: It's biased toward the NBA
They’ll tend to avoid topics that would shine the NBA in a negative light.
That being said, yeah, I don’t enjoy homer announcers either. The Blazers aren’t quite as bad this season actually.
You are right, but i can't blame them for not hurting their product on air
It seems like when announcers are biased they don’t give proper respect when the other team plays well, or they complain about the officials hwen things don’t go their way. They tend to make more excuses when your not winning… just gets old fast
I'm referring less to Wheeler's homerism and more to his ability to call the game.
He’s one of the best around.
I agree. When audio is your only option there is nobody better at describing the action.

Crawford should not be a PG
we are wasting his talents by forcing him to have a responsibility he is not good at.. Let him be SG off the bench. If he is open he takes the shot…simple as that… No need to force him to run offense only to end up taking long 2s
WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE
Those are clever opportune assist
Rudy fernandez is good at getting clever assists but he is no PG. Crawford is a clever Guard and he can get assists if he sees a teammate in a good position to pass the ball you are putting a leash on him by forcing him to drrible the ball and pass to others rather than getting him open for some shots
WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE
he is a clever guard that sees the floor well but running the offense is not his forte
WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE
Thomas 4/4

Speaking of our young guys, does it bother anyone else that nate really does a bad job of developing our draft picks?
Huh?
Name a decent young prospect that left here and blossomed.
I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.
-- M. Rivera
Wow.
Randolph A) didn’t leave due to a lack of talent and B) wasn’t developed by Nate.
Frye A) only succeeds because of the system he plays in, B) was a redundant and inferior talent, and C) wasn’t drafted or developed by the Blazers. Try again.
I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.
-- M. Rivera
They don't leave here cuz nobody wants a player that never plays
But in the last 3-4 year all our draft picks are really either in europe, or on our bench. the only players i can think that are gone is rudy, which is playing alright for denver and bayless whose playing alright for Toronto (except injured as of late)…. are they studs no. But we basically have wasted our drafts for the past 4 years minus batum.
How are poor drafts Nate's fault?
Did anyone really think Claver or Babbit were good picks?
I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.
-- M. Rivera
We don't know if its simply the bad draft, or if there is talent there that nates not developing
From every indication armon johnson and nolen smith were guys that nate signed off on. I truly believe nolen is a pick that nate wanted, but he never plays the guy what so ever. We are one of the few teams i can think of the last few years that doesn’t have at least 1 of their own draft picks playing in at least a rotation role.
Neither do the spurs, lakers, or any of those other consistant play off teams
Yet they still find players and play them in their rotation
Shoot look at the heat... last pick in the first round and hes a stud of a PG
How many rookies are they playing? with the right coaching and playing time they are looking like steals.
You blame Nate for not developing players.
I blame the management for drafting obviously flawed players with low draft picks.
I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.
-- M. Rivera
It was clear that nate liked nolen though. So I got to blame him for taking a guy he likes and giving him no burn
Nolan Smith is a rookie and clearly not as good as Felton, Crawford, or Matthews
You play your best players. I don’t feel like debating this point anymore, just agree to disagree.
I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.
-- M. Rivera
And if you think Nate has no say in who they draft, you are fooling yourself
Hes putting his input into the draft just like the rest of management.
Amlmart says he worries about Clavar's, what was it, enthusiasm for the game?
#52--------I believe in Greg Oden
if you look towards the top of the screen, you can see him...on the bench
zing!

They've been saying that since the San Antonio game.
Nolan plays his way out of a rotation spot every time he steps on the floor.
34-29???
This must be a FABULOUS game. We should be up by 20. Any good team would.
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
Undrafted big man from Mexico.
I believe he’s the 3rd Mexican citizen to play in the NBA.

D-leagers need to play the second half
tired of watching these guys play like scrubs
All you have to do to LA
is be physical and keep him off his spot and he disappears.
Hot sauce in my bag.
wheels said he was bumped...so i would have to say yes.

Pretty sure that's what Nate wanted Felton to do...yep.
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
yep
swearing at the ball actually worked that time
Can we send Felton down to the D league?
Put Armon in!
All we need is a really good center and a really good PG and we'd be set!
And maybe a really good backup 4 and…
Seriously I’m getting a bit tired of watching Felton.
how are we always owned by the benches of
other teams? Even teams that aren’t as superb as the blazers, seem to have a bench that looks like all-stars to the blazers d leaguers
oh ya... forgot about the TLS too...
Tired Leg Syndrom, occurs when a coach of limits the rest of the bench, allowing a team of 12-15 to then be a team of 8.
What positives has Felton givn this team?
He looks awful…
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
oh, it does. Since most of these people probably can't claim to be in better shape than him.

I dont think team play is what i'm talking about.
Ill-timed fouls, bad handles, turnovers, can’t go over picks…

Kudos for Monty for knowing how to take us out of it.

this team is hard to watch
not a player on the team with any passion except Wallace, but he’s more passion than skill.
sometimes its hard to root for a team that plays like that

it's embarrassing. Don't they want to the show everyone that they're as good as people are claiming they are?
#52
apparently not. Or they they are not as good as people say that tehy are.

sometimes with games like these i just want them to tank the whole season
and get a good lottery pick instead of ending up an 8th seed and going out of first round so pointless.

If I were coach, I'd post LMA every possesion of 2nd half
Felton/Matthews/Batum don’t create good shots dribbling around the perimeter. Why have we gone away from last year’s success?
so hard to watch
auuurgh! It’s this or work and work’s looking pretty good right now.
soooOOo
Aldridge: 6 pts, 5 boards, 1 assist, 19 minutes
Ayon: 6 pts, 4 boards, 1 steal, 7 minutes
SMH
This game hasn't made you lose your appetite?????
LET THE LAMONSTER ERA BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
more like Lo-Lights of the first have... I thought the
Hornets were a “terrible” team, but I guess I see who is hungry today.
i watched it, pretty entertaining game
they are a pretty big team
the Jazz are looking better than Portland right now.

What? The second half thread is dead like this game?
