Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Hornets

[Knocks on your monitor] Wake up! Hey, wake up, to a happy day!

Good morning! The Portland Trail Blazers vow to get back on the winning track at Noon today, against the New Orleans Hornets. Jarrett Jack will look to wreck havoc upon the Blazers. Can he do it? Or can the Blazers finally get back in the "W" column after a long week?

Injury report: Marcus Camby (ankle) will not play, and Kurt Thomas will again start in his place.

Read: Dave's Preview | Blazers Media Notes | Facebook | Ben's updates on Twitter
Watch: Comcast Sportsnet (Portland) | Blazers live streaming | NBA League Pass (National, subscription)
Listen: 750 AM The Game (Portland) | NBA Audio League Pass (Free)

The usual rules apply:

4. Don't discuss unofficial game streaming

And, of course, have fun. Go Blazers! -- Tim

This is like the second-earliest GDT I've done

Pretty sure we had a 10am game against the Wiz a while back.

by Timmay! on Jan 16, 2012 11:11 AM PST reply actions

Nope, Detroit was a 3pm game

This is the earliest, the next-earliest was the LAL game a couple years ago where Martell got fouled on a three attempt and won the game.

by Timmay! on Jan 16, 2012 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

Well this should be interesting.

New Orleans surprisingly has a huge size advantage up front with the big man duo of Okafor and Kaman with Landry coming off the bench. Without Camby, we’re running pretty thin and Wallace should have his hands full trying to guard the much bigger Okafor.

Still, without Eric Gordon I hope that we have enough offensive weapons in our back court to defeat them.

Lets go Blazers!

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

A lot of people figured they’d break even, so there wouldn’t be anything alarming jet yet.

Ever hear about the story with someone negotating a sale with Tom?

Tom told them he needed to discuss it with the rest of management, and went through a door into a separate room. A few minutes later he came out an said he convinced them, and completed the sale. Later, the person went over to check out the management room. It was a broom closet.

I guess im not a fan of overly homer announcers

I prefer watching national broadcast cuz i like a fair view of the game, not one thats one sided

by Kazper on Jan 16, 2012 12:32 PM PST up reply actions

The National coverage does have one bias: It's biased toward the NBA

They’ll tend to avoid topics that would shine the NBA in a negative light.

That being said, yeah, I don’t enjoy homer announcers either. The Blazers aren’t quite as bad this season actually.

by Timmay! on Jan 16, 2012 12:34 PM PST up reply actions

You are right, but i can't blame them for not hurting their product on air

It seems like when announcers are biased they don’t give proper respect when the other team plays well, or they complain about the officials hwen things don’t go their way. They tend to make more excuses when your not winning… just gets old fast

Crawford should not be a PG

we are wasting his talents by forcing him to have a responsibility he is not good at.. Let him be SG off the bench. If he is open he takes the shot…simple as that… No need to force him to run offense only to end up taking long 2s

WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE

by bowdown on Jan 16, 2012 12:40 PM PST reply actions

Those are clever opportune assist

Rudy fernandez is good at getting clever assists but he is no PG. Crawford is a clever Guard and he can get assists if he sees a teammate in a good position to pass the ball you are putting a leash on him by forcing him to drrible the ball and pass to others rather than getting him open for some shots

WITH ODEN ON OUR SIDE

This isn’t a nationally televised “holiday” game!..

Definitely playing to the level of the opposition.

#7... GO BLAZERS!!!

2 of the 3 teams were solid

And houston is tough on the road, especially without Camby

I'm just saying how much parity there is in the West

no a huge difference from 2 to 8

The Heat lost three in row too.

I’m telling you, the lockout season will be very bizarre. Perhaps we’ll see a couple truly bad teams making an eight seed.

by CoryBauer on Jan 16, 2012 12:50 PM PST reply actions

Cleveland is the 8th seed in the East right now

and Indy and Philly both are top 4

we were 2nd in the West

The first half is almost over in the first hour the game began

the second half may last for 2 hours. Funny how that works

Huh?

Name a decent young prospect that left here and blossomed.

I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.

Wow.

Randolph A) didn’t leave due to a lack of talent and B) wasn’t developed by Nate.
Frye A) only succeeds because of the system he plays in, B) was a redundant and inferior talent, and C) wasn’t drafted or developed by the Blazers. Try again.

I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.

by GMan83201 on Jan 16, 2012 1:07 PM PST up reply actions

They don't leave here cuz nobody wants a player that never plays

But in the last 3-4 year all our draft picks are really either in europe, or on our bench. the only players i can think that are gone is rudy, which is playing alright for denver and bayless whose playing alright for Toronto (except injured as of late)…. are they studs no. But we basically have wasted our drafts for the past 4 years minus batum.

by Kazper on Jan 16, 2012 1:04 PM PST up reply actions

How are poor drafts Nate's fault?

Did anyone really think Claver or Babbit were good picks?

I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.

by GMan83201 on Jan 16, 2012 1:08 PM PST up reply actions

We don't know if its simply the bad draft, or if there is talent there that nates not developing

From every indication armon johnson and nolen smith were guys that nate signed off on. I truly believe nolen is a pick that nate wanted, but he never plays the guy what so ever. We are one of the few teams i can think of the last few years that doesn’t have at least 1 of their own draft picks playing in at least a rotation role.

by Kazper on Jan 16, 2012 1:10 PM PST up reply actions

You blame Nate for not developing players.

I blame the management for drafting obviously flawed players with low draft picks.

I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.

-- M. Rivera

by GMan83201 on Jan 16, 2012 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

Nolan Smith is a rookie and clearly not as good as Felton, Crawford, or Matthews

You play your best players. I don’t feel like debating this point anymore, just agree to disagree.

I know where I come from, and when you always have in mind where you come from the rest will be easy. I think the rest will be easy.

by GMan83201 on Jan 16, 2012 1:18 PM PST up reply actions

And if you think Nate has no say in who they draft, you are fooling yourself

Hes putting his input into the draft just like the rest of management.

by YoniRap on Jan 16, 2012 1:08 PM PST reply actions

how are we always owned by the benches of

other teams? Even teams that aren’t as superb as the blazers, seem to have a bench that looks like all-stars to the blazers d leaguers

by mora2 on Jan 16, 2012 1:08 PM PST reply actions

oh ya... forgot about the TLS too...

Tired Leg Syndrom, occurs when a coach of limits the rest of the bench, allowing a team of 12-15 to then be a team of 8.

by mora2 on Jan 16, 2012 1:12 PM PST up reply actions

this team is hard to watch

not a player on the team with any passion except Wallace, but he’s more passion than skill.

by skott75 on Jan 16, 2012 1:09 PM PST reply actions

If I were coach, I'd post LMA every possesion of 2nd half

Felton/Matthews/Batum don’t create good shots dribbling around the perimeter. Why have we gone away from last year’s success?
