Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Rockets
The six-game road trip continues with a late afternoon contest, as the Portland Trail Blazers play the Houston Rockets (Tip off 5:10pm!). Can the Blazers start this road trip with a win?
(Also, if you'd like to talk playoff football, SB Nation has football blogs galore to discuss it with like-minded folks. Thanks!)
Injury report: Marcus Camby is out after injuring his ankle yesterday, and Kurt Thomas will start in his place (not Nicolas Batum as discussed last night).

Sorry to be all Captain Bringdown on the football thing, but sometimes it becomes a problem
Besides, there are plenty of football blogs.
Go Portland Trailblazers!
It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong. I am NOT a big man.

Last night Ben prodded me for beating him to the news about Camby
I’m like right here though, so it’s usually pretty easy. :)
Joel? Joel? Are you out there Joel?
I think we’re gonna need you real soon; please return for the Spring and, hopefully, early Summer!
I saw Golden State signed Barron.
Wonder if the Blazers would take a flyer on Fesenko if he still wants to try the NBA. He can at least rebound if he can stay out of foul trouble, and take up lots of space inside. Maybe he could even get better with experience.
yeah there a decent chance he could work out
and if he does, I’m pretty sure he’s a lot younger, so if he’s good he could stick.
did anybody have as good of a friday the 13th as I did?
what a night!

4 bars 3 chicks 1 band
1 hotel room, 1 hot tub, 1 4am breakfast. Ashland is a fun town sort of a mini Portland!
plus got 86ed from a bar for the first time ever. Caught smokin inside the bar! CYA on to the next spot!

The only one on the team who should be breaking ankles is JCrossover. That includes Camby.

Yep.
He’d have to sign the QO and spend a season in uncertainty before becoming a free agent.
Could happen, but I suspect a team would throw an offer at him in RFA that he’d take, leaving the Blazers with a big decision.
Does it normally show a QO before it's made?
I can’t remember. But yeah, if it normally shows the possible future QO, then it’s an error.
I thought that was what I read, but I just looked at Oregonian site and it does now say restricted.
Some team will make him an offer like Outlaw and Ariza got. No way the Blazers will match.
Boy i missed 2 of our worst losses so far
vs phx and last night vs SA. I saw a little of last nights game in the third right before SA tookover and never looked back. Its a shame because we were in it until the end of the 3rd.

PHILLY!
Batum will get plenty of minutes with the starters
he just isnt starting on the court with them which is fine, it’s not like Thomas is going to play 42 minutes while Batum gets 15, however if you see CJ getting the majority of the minutes and not Batum small ball then something is definitely up

Seems to depend a lot on your area.
A couple years ago, Mortimer and I always saw the same feed on League Pass, while TD and a few others would see the opposite feed at times. And we all had the same overall cable provider.
Yeah I'm surprised it's not a choice on broadband, agreed.
I get that there are limitations on cable providers in terms of the number of channels they can offer, but broadband seems like a freebie unless there’s a licensing limitation.

they are blowing out teams but bad teams, their best win is against Indiana and I don’t think they are anything special either. They are basically the exact same team as last year, the 2nd half of their schedule will get them

Ignorant question:
Is KGW streaming the game?
by ParticleAccelerator on Jan 14, 2012 5:07 PM PST reply actions
It's on Comcast
So streaming depends your cable provider (there’s a link at the top for streaming to check).
San Antonio was surprisingly empty last night too
Hard to say if this is about the lockout, laziness, or just the fact the fans feel their teams aren’t contenders.
The Rockets franchise must be frustrated
They’re a pretty big market team and may have to tank in order to really rebuild around a star, or find someone willing to sign when they have cap space.. They attempted to grab Gasol, but once that fell through, there was really nothing.
They kind of phased it out over the season
Not the first time that’s happened. I’d rather they enforce it.
Why's he whining about it?
There’s really no consequence.
Wow... it doesnt want tp work. -_-

The Batum Conspiracy
Blazers purposefully juggle/limit minutes to make him look worse, players purposefully don’t feed him —> sign for cheaper ?
our half-court offense looks baddd
LMA needs to attack more instead of waiting for the double to come, better spacing and movement would be nice too
yeah he stands there for 3 seconds
and waits for the defense to get in place. Needs to use his speed to his advantage.
Aldridge has got to start shooting. It is an absolute must to have any chance in this game. He has Jordan Hill on him.
If he can’t score on him just put Luke Babbitt in and let the scrubs get some practice in.

It’s hard to judge from such a compressed schedule but it seems maybe he’s just coasting now that he feels he’ll make the all-star game.

If that is true then his defense is overrated. He gets around picks so late. I noticed when he was scoring he really contested some shots
and the Rockets missed. It sucks but he seems to play better defense when he is scoring.

Hasn't played out that way
The only picks he gets around late are the down screen curls…in that case, the paired defender should “show”, allow Batum to close, and rotate back on his man….the Blazers don’t always do that well….

No
Hes not out of it mentally he’s pulled from the game buy Nate. Nate has many players playing scared over the years.
I sorta feel like Batum brings it every game?
Tell me again why we traded Miller?

Dumb move
I’d rate him a 5th or 6th rounder at best….
