If they want that I say trade him. He hasnt scored 20 points this season.

less chances to do that then last year
also they are throwing out a high number so we can meet in the middle. would you do a 5yr $32.5 mil for batum

Until tonight against Houston.
I’m sure 29 pts, 9 rbs and 4 blocks off the bench don’t exactly hurt your bargaining position!
But against just about everyone else
for the last 4 years……not so hot.
i really don't know much about salaries and structure,
but i don’t think i would even let batum touch $8 mil. a wesley matthews type deal overall would be fair. what about like a three year deal for around $18? I think a short-term deal might be good for both sides to keep the price reasonable and if he doesn’t improve, the blazers can move on, and if he does, batum can look for a bigger deal with the blazers or away.

Typical negotiation..
Batum probably asked for a lot more than he’s worth while the blazers “low balled” him. They meet in the middle sometime next year. Too early to jump to conclusions and say, “that’s one way to lose a player”..
He doesn't deserve more than 7 in the first year
Wesley makes less, and has provided much more to the team…and starts. Nic is inconsistent, but being so young he will still improve. If he doesn’t like it, trade him.
I would prefer Anderson V from the Cavs w/ Sessions for Camby’s and Nic swapping 2nd rd picks.
Cavs get cap space and a better sf than Omri.
Wes also touches the ball way more than Batum so it would look like he does more
and starting isn’t everything. Batum might be a better starter and wes could be a better bench guy in Batums role

Oh, what was I thinking?
Of course, Batum would be an All-Star if he were starting?!? The Blazers are holding him back.
Same must be true with Luke and Chris Johnson, eh Rose Glasses?
I never said All-Star Buddy
Batum role right now is to sit in a corner and shoot, that’s all he does, but Wes might be better at the role then Batum, but on the other side Wes gets plays ran for him and batum doesn’t.

In the past
Batum has not had plays ran for him. This year he gets plenty, and he hasn’t done much with them. I see the Blazers running a few sets specifically designed to get Batum a shot every night, which I never saw before. I like Batum a lot and I think he’s played well this year, much more aggressive and Nate has shown confidence by running plays for him.

The problem is..
we have a redundancy of skills at SF and need to utilize either Gerald or Nic as an asset, commit to one and trade the other for help at a weaker position (PG or C), before they both walk as FA’s. Too bad because they’re two of my three favorite Blazers (along with LMA).
by hollywood robinson on Jan 14, 2012 2:29 PM PST up reply actions
it's not redundant
when the two of them can guard several positions from 1-4 and can both play out on the court at the same time
not to mention one nasty fall resulting in another concussion and Crash could be out for quite awhile. This kind of SF trade talk needs to go buh-bye. Who is Portland’s #3 SF, Luke Babbitt? Be careful what you wish for
When reached 40+ years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
That whole stand in the corner argument
is no longer valid. Do you watch the games…or just keep using other peoples arguments till someone like me tells you they are false?
i still think we should cash in on him
for okafor

Actually...
Batum for okafor is pretty good

That is a FAT contract
$40m over the next 3 yrs?..that’s more than Aldridge. Dude is way overpaid.
I say Anderson V. Also no offensive game, but better rebounder. Okafor does block better, but makes 5m more per season than Anderson V.
I'd probably take either one, but I would prefer Varejao like most of the advanced stat geeks.
His Defensive ratings and rebounding % make me drool:

The cake was a lie.
I like varajo
But two hard facts we have to deal with
1. Cavs said they are NOT trading him.
2. he has no muscle and cannot box out

No muscle
You’re right, those stats do not account for the lack of muscle you have noticed…
Otherwise
I would say take em. Well that and he looks like monster from the muppets

He clearly has no muscle
why else would he so easily collapse to the floor.. he’s not flopping, he just can’t hold himself up when there is a draft.
you don't need to give Batum to get Okafor
