Gameday Open Thread: Magic vs. Blazers

Don't look now, but it's another game. Tonight, a rested Orlando Magic play the Portland Trail Blazers (Tip off 7:10pm). Believe it or not, the Magic have been hanging around town since their last game Sunday. On the third game in four nights, can the Blazers keep up with Orlando?

Injury report: All's quiet.

wait a min!

u don’t know what a 4 Loco is?

Omg, it’s hilariously disgusting. It’s an energy drink w/ alcohol, but they outlawed a certain variant of it, and now it no longer has the “energy-boosting” ingredients

Aka, caffeine...

And yeah 4 lokos suck, but then again, I’m a complete beer snob and won’t drink anything that isn’t a semi-local microbrew.

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 5:35 PM PST up reply actions

Aww. I was thinking about that today.

Will next year’s Orlando team be an even sadder version of this year’s Cavs?

They won’t have a lottery pick OR a superstar. That’s pretty sad. But hey, they’ve had a nice run.

/s

by Hipster Olympic Team! on Jan 11, 2012 5:37 PM PST up reply actions   1 recs

they still have a ton of bad contracts though

if I was Orlando, I would NOT trade with the Lakers, instead opting to get as many young guys and picks as possible from a team. No need to get a good guy with a hefty contract with Bynum, when you could get some guys with high ceilings and rookie contracts, and a couple lottery picks in the future

"I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all."

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 5:39 PM PST up reply actions

It's a really tough situation for them.

They never got a true second option for Howard but not for lack of trying. Still, some of those deals they picked up are just such prayers I have a hard time feeling that sorry for them.

I’m looking for some horror movies in the vein of:

Any suggestions?

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 6:13 PM PST up reply actions

I haven't been tempted either

I’m under-impressed with their selection, and they still force commercials.

Plus I don’t appreciate that they require Plus to use the TV streaming options. Offer the basics for free, and if people are impressed, they’ll be more likely to sign up, not less.

by Timmay! on Jan 11, 2012 6:15 PM PST up reply actions

i think they would argue

that tv streaming isnt a basic feature but i agree with you

by blazers12 on Jan 11, 2012 6:16 PM PST up reply actions

Yep, that's their argument

And I just think they’re wrong. Netflix streaming took off because they literally offered their services to any electronics manufacturer who wanted to add it. Hulu may have been a bigger competitor if they’d done the same.

by Timmay! on Jan 11, 2012 6:18 PM PST up reply actions

maybe hulu

should never have been free to begin with? with netflix you dont feel ripped off by having to pay for extra things

by blazers12 on Jan 11, 2012 6:19 PM PST up reply actions

I don't mind paying extra for hulu, honestly

Though when I’ve checked the Plus selection, I think “is this it?”. That’s not even getting into the commercials

For me, it’s more about the ability to stream to a given device. They actively discouraged the ability to add hulu to devices for over a year. They relented when they added the subscription plan. So, why not just let people stream both? You’d have a year of people already using the service, and ready to just start paying.

I feel it’s a side effect of Hulu itself, since they’re owned by the media companies. They like their control.

and it made me really mad. Neither of the 4 guys picked us for “biggest surprise this year” or “top contender in the west” even though we have the second best record in the west. Second only by two less wins.

The closest they ever got was Clyde

He was voted into the All Star starting lineup by the fans. So for me, that qualifies as Superstar. Unfortunately, we never got to find out if Brandon’s popularity would build up to reach that point.

as once being an emo-ish kid

I take offense to calling Kobe emo. Elitist, maybe, but he has toned down the whole attitude act as he’s gotten older.

I think he ostracized himself

hence, the elitism and the feelings of superiority over others

awkward is more Derrick Rose, who is a sweet kid who has come out and said he will not recruit for his team— for his entire career.

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 6:20 PM PST up reply actions

what do u think that would take?

Batum, Babbitt, & Armon plus a second rounder?

Some how the salaries have to match (up to 120 or 150%, can’t remember), and Camby is currently our best asset, though i doubt they want to trade one Center for another old veteran center

"I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all."

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 6:22 PM PST up reply actions

Dont want Okafor. What we have now is better. Without camby, were not where we are.

right, thats why Okafor is perfect.

he splits mins at the C with Camby; we can have Camby or Thomas play mins at the 4 during Aldridge rests on the bench, and maybe he’d play 3-5 less a game; the Rhino plays a couple mins less, as does KT and Camby.

Since New Orleans would not want Camby back in an Okafor trade, we’d likely be able to keep him for this season, while not resigning him next season, unless to a much more reasonable contract (less like his current contract, more like KT’s contract)

"I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all."

by thankyouforblaze on Jan 11, 2012 6:36 PM PST up reply actions

probably something along those lines

it would depend on their take on Batum. Hate to lose Batum and I’ve never said I’d trade him before…but for the sake of the season (having Crash now) I’d do it

by blazerblaze on Jan 11, 2012 6:28 PM PST up reply actions

No

we give Camby, they give us a first
they have been trying to GIVE him away for a few years ala Fat Al Jefferson, but have gotten no takers
it is a well known fact that he Is available to any team that has the capspace, trade exception, or expiring contract to take his bloated contract off their books
dont you dare talk about giving up Batum for us
we would be the joke of the league

La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah

by AbuFatimah on Jan 11, 2012 6:34 PM PST up reply actions

lol

I very much doubt they’re giving him away.

he’s currently averaging 29 mins, 8 points, 8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, with a PER north of 15. His $12mil contract is only 2 million over Camby’s, and he’s 9 years younger. It’s like Andre Miller versus Raymond Felton. It looks very good over the long term.

are yall prepared for that? Hopefully, we crush them but we might have tired legs. This could be Batums night however. He didnt get much minutes last night and should be fairly fresh for todays game.
