Just for fun, Dwight Howard?
This is all hypothetical. All of it.
If I'm not mistaken, the Blazers will be able to offer a max contract next season. HYPOTHETICALLY, we sign D-12. Would he mesh with the crew? Would he fit inside the locker room? Also, who keeps number 12, LA or DH? What's the verdict on Greg Oden? UFA, right? Will he ever live up to his potential as an oger in the middle? What happens if he pulls an "Oden" next season? Who would be willing to sign 52, assuming he leaves the Blazers?

better chance of getting D Will I would think.
not that either one is a good chance

agreed
I think Deron would be an awesome pick up, and 10x more likely to come out to PDX

IF we signed D Will...
What’s the better PG/PF combo in the West? DWill/LA or CP3/SirDunkALot ?
DWill owns CP3 in head to head match ups. LA owns BG.
Phase 1: Collect underpants
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
Go for Howard if at all possible,
make him an super loaded front offer he cant refuse so he will sign a long term deal here, even if we go super duper deep into the luxury tax. We could offer some pieces like Wallace or Batum plus Oden, Camby, all our future picks, money, trade exceptions, rookies —all of it. If we can Keep the core intact, add Howard and we got ourselves a championship squad.
But its really really unlikely that Howard will come here or that we have what Orlando would take in order to make a trade happen. Most likely to get Howard here we would have to gut our entire roster. But I say go for it, shoot for the moon. All they can say is no right?? We are an all star caliber center away from a championship, thats all thats holding us back IMO.

if we trade for Howard
we are a lot more than a high caliber center away from a title, considering what we would have given up to get him.

I dunno...
I think we could put together quite a package for Dwight… haven’t checked salaries, but:
Crash, Camby, Joel Freeland, anybody not in our 8 man rotation, 2 first round picks…
Might be as good for Orlando as anybody else is willing to pony up…
Sure would be sweet…
I would love Howard....
but he ain’t going to come to Portland…. Not unless we sign another big name player….
Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.
Biggest name I can think of is Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje
If only he hadn’t retired!

We can sign Howard and Williams if Portland merges with Seattle to create a mega-city.
The team would be called the Chehalis Blonics.

I say that
When New Jersey realizes they suck and D-Will isn’t staying, we trade Felton, Batum, Babbitt, and lots of 1st round picks(maybe also Matthews) for Deron Williams. Then we go after Dwight in Free agency to have a starting lineup of Williams-Crawford-Wallace-Aldridge-Howard.

they're not trading D Will

Josh Smith is the guy to get
If we really wanted to go after D-Howard. Now that Horford’s out they might be willing to make some sort of deal, since they’re not going to win a lot this year probably.
I think Smith/Aldridge/Howard would be absolutely incredible (offense and defense).
Batum might work well next to JJ (instead of a PG), JJ could be the primary guard and Batum can guard the PG’s.
How about
Trade Wallace, Felton, 2 first rounders (maybe Oden) try to get D-will at the trade deadline (when NJ realizes they suck and need to be sellers at the deadline) if Portland gets d-will, that could lure Howard over.
Williams/Wesley/Batum/Lamarcus/Howard = UNSTOPPABLE.
