I was a teenager when Portland was awarded a NBA franchise. I remember watching NBA games on TV ,mostly Celtics as i recall, but i was a baseball fan and really wished we had got a MLB team. But this was a pro team and the legends of the game were going to be coming to Portland. Live. Large and in person. Up close. I could go see real pro's that i read about in the newspaper, remember newspapers? They used to be on the doorstep every day with boxscores and pictures and storys. Remember boxscores? So i got tickets to see the Milwaukee Bucks and Lew Alcindor and being down on the floor for warmups and gawking at how tall this dude was. Just staring up and thinking how TV just didnt make them look like they really are. I was hooked !When the Paramount Theater started the closed curcuit shows on the big screen we went those and i recall one game against the Bulls that we were losing so we left early and when we got to the car and turned on the Shonz we we're stunned to listen to this amazing comeback and started yelling "Blazers WIN" at people on the streets The Shonz was a thrill to listen to with the "Lickity splits" and "Got to make your free thows" and "Bingo Bango Bongo"...man i miss that. Now that the years have past and the Championship year and the near Championship years have come and gone and i can now afford to buy a weekend game package that my wife encouraged me to go ahead and do so i could take my friends and other Blazer fans with me to enjoy .These are the cheap seats but we were in the building. barely lol! My wife was not a sports fan but just wanted to experience it once so i took her to a game. She loved the intinsity of the crowd and now is wearing Blazer stuff and learning about the players and now, blees her heart, she demanded we upgrade our seats for this season so we can see everything better !
