Nicholas Batum

I just want to share with you that today France achieved a difficult victory over Italy 91:84(20-23;21-25;19-19;31-17) in a game of the European Basketball Championship.

Nic Batum had a significant contribution to the success - 20 points, 5 rebounds,4 steals.
In the last few minutes, he had several key plays. It was nice to see Nic so active.Tony Parker played poorly.Another key player was B. Diaw - 21 Pts.
Tomorrow France plays against Serbia. The match starts at 11 AM.
You can find a link to the game here - www.sportlemon.tv.

Batum looked like a totally different player.

He was really going at whoever was guarding him. Parker was really struggling and actually sat while France made a run in the fourth. If Batum played like this every game (a little cocky, a little pissed) he’d be an all star. But the same could be said of Diaw, who really delivered in the clutch. It’s a French thing, I guess.

(Batum had a huge block from the weak side on Bargnani, who also looked great.)

You hit the nail on the head

Problem is we only see this Batum once in a while. Imagine a starting pitcher who has the potential to throw a shutout, and does so once in a while but a fair amount of the time gets lit up like a pinball machine. Meanwhile another pitcher has less potential for throwing a shutout, but rather consistently delivers good starts one after the other. Which would you prefer? Me, I take Mr. Consistent every day of the week. Which is why, I must adieu to Monsieur Batum (if we could get a consistent, proven player).

by ebnerblazer on Sep 5, 2011 11:16 AM PDT up reply actions

Would you still take Mr. Consistent

If he was 38 and and the Mr. Potential was 23? If there’s one thing that improves with age, it’s consistency. Will he become the next Pippen? Very unlikely. But Prince is definitely within his reach.

by Batumshakalaka on Sep 5, 2011 12:32 PM PDT up reply actions

That's a fair point

But if some of the rumors of the past few years are to be believed potential trumped relatively young consistency with the Blazers. I would argue this was to our detriment.

Yeah, Parker injured himself in the second play of the game when

he got kneed in the thigh

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I think Serbia's gonna be tough.

Even tougher if Parker ain’t up to snuff. It’s going to take big time games from Batum, Diaw, and Noah if that’s the case. I’m sad I missed today’s game, and even sadder I’ve got to miss tomorrow’s.

Diaw is so funny: one night, he’s this fluid presence, materializing just in time to complete a play with a mind-bending outlet pass, then next night, he’s a tubby pile of suck. Truly amazing how one man can vacillate between such extremes.

Batum has been Steady Eddy for Les Bleus, and I’m glad to hear he took it up a notch and got pissed.

Joakim Noah needs to hit the boards harder. He’s averaging 7.5 in the tournament after a 10.4 season. It was infuriating to watch all the 2nd chances Les Bleus gave Germany, and some of that blame is on him (also Treore/Seraphin is a poor substitute for Turiaf).

With some luck, I’ll be able to catch a few minutes of tomorrow’s game. Allez, Nico!

Aren't the games more possession oriented and/or low scoring?

Rebounds become less prevalent.

I'd compared TRB%.

Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.

by dpnim on Sep 4, 2011 2:42 PM PDT up reply actions

His TRB% for the 4 games is roughly 22.8% so far. That’s higher than the 18.5% TRB% he had as a Bull last season. He’s only playing 24 minutes per game in Eurobasket rather than the almost 33 minutes per game in last season.

Even in the Germany game, statistically allowing 4 offensive rebounds in 28 opportunities would be extremely good defensive rebounding in the NBA. The boxscore may be a little off, but I can’t it imagine it being off by a ton.

by poster on Sep 4, 2011 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

My point exactly.

Not that I really made one.

But although his Rebounds look low at 7.5, He’s grabbing a higher TRB% than his play in the NBA.

To be crude, If there were only 10 total rebounds in a game, either by high turnovers or high FGM%, then 7.5 rebounds would be 75% of total rebounds caught. Sure, it’s no double-double but you grabbed a high # of rebounds in relation to how many were available.

Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.

fun game,

what’s with Nedad Kristic dominating? Noah should be doing better against him, though a few times it’s looked like batum ended up on him on defense. Will he still be on the thunder next year? SOme nice shots from batum, Man watching this makes me really hope the NBA works out and we see some basketball. Watching Batum play makes me realize that he’s still young with room to improve. It also makes me glad we didn’t trade for Tony Parker. Not that he’s bad at all, he’s great, but I see slippage in his future.

I've probably posted that pic 5 times now...

He just looks so wicked—kinda like Gargamel. Also, the Greek girls in the background are hilarious.

It's werid how they show the playbacks so quickly

During the continuing play they show the basket that just happened. I’m watching the serbian feed, don’t know if they are all like that.

Thanks!

I was just having fun entertaining myself, It was a great game to watch. I’m for sure going to try to catch more of them. Batum with the bandage, so hardcore! Lots of great plays by him. He’s really a personality on the team, not like portland, really expressive and fun.
