GET RID OF ANY POT SMOKER oN THE ROSTER
The blazer players need to know that in Portland we dont tolerate marijuana smoking. Camby needs to be gone. SEND THE MESSAGE TO THE TEAM. If you smoke pot or vaporize you will be banned. When Camby first showed up he was recording double doubles every game, then he started smoking marijuana and his game went down and got injured. If championships are to be won there will be no marijuana. We have a lot of injuries on the team and there is no doubt a lot of the players would qualify for medical marijuana but you dont see roy or oden going that route. Camby is better than that but he now doesn't have a chance and must go. I'm worried that this could rub off on Nolan Smith and he could start up. Lets go blazers, clear heads, nobody has ever won a championship and been on marijuana.

Worst post ever?
You’re allowed to have your own opinions, but Camby is allowed to make his own decisions. Plus, Camby has been adamant that he hasn’t smoked pot since he was arrested in 1997.
I hope this was a post made in satire because if not, good grief, this is ridiculously written and conceived.
By the way, Lamar Odom’s first suspension in the league was believed to be due to pot, via Wikipedia.
Odom was involved in controversy in November 2001 when he was suspended for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy for the second time in eight months.8 It is generally accepted that Odom’s suspension was for use of marijuana, which is not subject to the NBA’s harsher “Drugs of Abuse” rules. At the time, he admitted to smoking marijuana.8
See also Chris Webber
In 1998, Webber was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of marijuana and five other traffic-related violations after being pulled over for speeding on the way to the practice center at the MCI Center in downtown Washington, D.C. Webber was eventually acquitted by a jury of the assault, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and driving under the influence charges, and paid $560 in fines for lesser violations.16
Later in 1998 during the off-season, while leaving Puerto Rico on a promotional tour for Fila sneakers, Webber paid a $500 fine after U.S. Customs found marijuana in his bag
TONS of players have and still smoke marijuana, and as long as they aren’t high when they’re playing on the court, what do you care? They aren’t role models?
What about alcohol consumption, steroids, etc?
Again, my stance is YOU cannot declare what any other person can do or will do, period.

However, I did not write this for JRRIDER, I wrote this for people who are actually of the opinion that Marcus Camby did something wrong by occasionally smoking pot. I do admit that getting caught in your vehicle, if he was high, was wrong, but getting high in general is a preference that each individual person gets to make.
Please see http://www.blazersedge.com/2011/9/22/2442599/camby-arrested-for-pot if anyone would like to gauge dissenting views of pot smoking.

I disagree to some extent
pot effects performance.
These athletes are paid for their performance.
If i smoke pot… whatever… desk job.
If they smoke pot… they don’t get a steal… the get blocked on a shot. Who knows… it could be a ten point difference depending on who they are and how much.
I like winning.

Pot does effect performance.
I’m sure many people would say it IMPROVES their performance. Not that I’ve ever tried it, of course. But if I had I’d say it helped me relax and “get in the groove” when I’m snowboarding, playing racquetball, etc. Anybody who says different probably hasn’t combined weed with sports…or so I’ve heard… :)

I never laughed, I just shook my head
Satirical works often contain “straight” humour, usually to give relief from what might otherwise be relentless preaching. Although this has always been so, it is probably more marked in modern satire. Yet some satire is not “funny”, nor is meant to be. Obviously, not all humour – even on such topics as politics, religion or art, or using the great satirical tools of irony, parody, and burlesque – is necessarily “satirical”; the most light-hearted satire always has a serious “after-taste”. The Ig Nobel Prize satire on trivial scientific research describes this as “first make people laugh, and then make them think” – a fair definition of satire itself.

sarcasm, or irony, on the other hand...
Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter jibe or taunt."1 Though irony and understatement is usually the immediate context,2 most authorities sharply distinguish sarcasm from irony;3 however, others argue that sarcasm may or often does involve irony4 or employs ambivalence.5 Sarcasm has been suggested as a possible bullying action in some circumstances.6

Ron Paul doesn't have much in common with tea party.
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
This is correct.
A true libertarian wants nothing to do with the reactionary Tea Party, especially on social issues.
"I Am Mine"
The Tea Party is funded by Murdoch and the Koch bros.
From the top, it’s a pro corporate entity pouring millions and millions of dollars into the party as it works vehemently at eliminating regulations, destroying unions, and continuing the massive tax rollbacks enjoyed by upper income Americans since the 80’s while cutting any sort of program that benefits less ‘useful’ citizens. Obviously, it has a grass roots face, fronted by really ticked off poor people who seem determined to fight the very programs many of them have utilized in their own lives. It’s an interesting phenomenon.

I hate how this post went into politics...
Respect the political opinions of your fellow fans guys! Thats what makes us great! Not bitterness and Bernie Bickeringstaffing. That said, I suspect this post was written by a juvenile. The title is all in caps except for one letter way in the middle. The overall tone has an uninformed, close minded, yet enthusiastic approach. So I think it’s either A: JR Rider jealous at what others get away with, B:a kid, or C: fatty. If it were any of these is it really worth insulting each others views and perspectives instead of appreciating the differences the culture of Portland has to offer? Sorry, Im off my soapbox now.
Go to work, Nolan.
I think the best way to respect political opinions
is to discuss them maturely. I agree though, BEdge is generally not the time and place. That said, I don’t subscribe to a “don’t ask don’t tell” policy on peoples’ political views either; sometimes ignoring issues requires more energy and more dogmatic positions than simply adopting clear forms of communication. Oops. Sorry. Didn’t mean to bring up another political issue;)

We let the political talk go here
because folks need practice dealing with trolling and controversy every once in a while. Better here during the lockout than over a real subject during the height of a playoff run.

what is wrong with people
These athletes like camby who have been in the league for so long wake up every mourning with aches and pains i couldnt even imagine, that goes for all athletic sports. I know i play bball every week and the next day i wake up with considerable pain. No lets consider would we rather our athletes be smoking a little herb thats non addictive and available as a true pain medication in most states now or taking vicodin, oxy whatever thats highly addictive and can string people out after extended periods of use. I would say most of the people on here that our posting bad about marcus are still calling hockey players “commies” and think ronald reagen was the best president in the last 40yrs. Smoking pot is not a good thing, but your attitude is way over the top. You must not realize that basically every player in the NBA smokes or involves themselves in risky behavior.
It's 2011 people...
Being gay and smoking pot just isn’t a big deal anymore. And though it may not be a great idea to smoke the icky icky as a professional athlete, there’s this thing called a “lockout” taking place right now in the NBA. It’s not like it’s mid-season. And besides all that, Camby is 37 years old and in the twilight of his career. Let the man chill.
