I also hit up the movie theatre last night, but went and saw Contagion.
A quiet, sparsely attended 10 p.m. showing two weeks in rather than a packed midnight premier, though.
That was an exceptionally well-made film. An outstanding cast, too, and my favorite performance of them all was by Kate Winslet, who always stands out and shines through.
"I Am Mine"
I liked that movie too
Especially since I’d had a weird virus the week before. I saw the trailer for Moneyball there and wasn’t impressed — my first thought was that Hollywood had ruined yet another good book. Devyn’s take has me interested though, and I’ll be curious to see what other BE folks have to say.
I also heard pretty good reviews about both movies
I liked “Outbreak” back in the day, and studied crisis management with a SARS case study, so I think I’ll watch Contagion.
The odd casting choice in Moneyball is Jonah Hill, who looks nothing like the person he portraits. Unusual for Hollywood to make you far uglier, especially when the lead gets played by Brad Pitt.
Yeah, he claims that now it was about his character...
But really he didn’t want to be played by Hill ;-)
Regarding Contagion, I do want to give a mini-spoiler.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s head gave its best performance since Se7en.
"I Am Mine"
I was really impressed
with how they went about presenting the movie. not to give away too many details, the movie is more about the life of billy beane than it technically is about finding inefficiency’s in the market.
Having loads of cash and healthy players beats having a moneyball strategy every time :-)
Rockets had bad luck with Yao and T-Mac, and thus haven’t really won anything yet. Like the Athletics.
I like Daryl Morey but he seems like quite the self promoter. Remember when he had turned +/- into an actionable stat? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/magazine/15Battier-t.html?pagewanted=all
i keep dancing on my own.
Arrgggggg...
I was hoping this would be a more interesting article, especially from Morey, but it bored me, though it was a little more personable and funnier than I initially thought it would be. However, it lacked the insight I was craving.
