AP: Rudy Fernandez Officially Signs With Real Madrid
The Associated Press reports that former Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a 2011 NBA Draft day trade, has officially signed to play for Spanish club Real Madrid during the ongoing lockout, and possibly beyond.
--------------------------------
Dallas Mavericks forward Rudy Fernandez has signed for Real Madrid's basketball team during the NBA lockout. Madrid says Fernandez has agreed to play in Spain in the midst of the ongoing labor negotiations. The deal includes an option for Fernandez to play with Madrid once his contract with the NBA champions ends.
--------------------------------
The framework of this deal was first reported in August.
Fernandez was a member of the Spanish national team that won the 2011 EuroBasket championship in Lithuania on Sunday.

I'm sorry, Rudy...who?
Doesn’t ring a bell. I forget the names of all Flagrant McGees no matter how dearly I loved them before. Granted, it was to Tony Parker and not Batum, but still, not cool.

See.
The Blazers just gave Rudy away for nothing.

A stack of Chalupons would have been fair.

I like how it’s a rental. Sometime while on vacation, she had the foresight to be like “you know, I’m gonna need a hoverround” and opened a phonebook.

I'm assuming--though it's not abundantly clear
That the option is a player option, no?
Honor Alaa Abdelnaby.
First in the NBA. At least alphabetically
wow, so Rudy is on TWO championship teams now...
Way to land on your feet, Rudy !
Wake me when the game is on.
No kidding!
Good for him! And hey, not only does he have a few friends from the national team on Real Madrid but the Spanish Armada will be reunited (kinda redundant to say since it’s in Spain)! Might have to try and watch a few games and see if Sergio remembers how to throw a lob Rudy’s way! Not like there will be any NBA games happening if Rudy’s in Madrid and not Dallas so …
lol Rudy
kid can play in Europe, but he isn’t worth much in the NBA

Actually I think he'd start for Dallas
And playing off Dirk could do wonders for his percentages driving and shooting open 3s.
In big moments, Stephenson is a better 3 point shooter
and much better defender. MUCH better. Of course, Rudy can run side pick-and-rolls, so he is certainly a useful player to Dallas, I just don’t see him starting or getting more minutes than Peja got last season.

Funny how Rudalpho "The Michael Jordan of Spain" Fernandez
doesn’t quite equate to Rudalpho “Peja-ish, kinda, maybe off the bench for spelled minutes, maybe” Fernandez in Texas.
Hmm. Must be lost in translation or something.
Or should I say: lost in transition…like his defense! Zing!

If that's an obscure Scarlett Johansson reference,
then I’m on board because she’s totes hot.
Otherwise, well, Bill Murray? Really?

Nope, nothing fancy. I just pointed out you butchered Rodolfo Fernández's first name.
Rodolfo ≠ Rudalpho.
"I Am Mine"
Yeah I know.
Shouldda just went with Rudy. Next time.

Ah, it's all good.
Anyway, about your earlier remark, Scarlett Johansson is most definitely attractive.
Hard to argue that.
"I Am Mine"
I was under the impression
they didn’t expect to have Stephenson back next season?
If they still have Stephenson
He’s a free agent along with Chandler, Barea, Marion, Peja and Cardinal so he might not be there. I’m sure they’d like to keep him but the three people mentioned first are their main targets from all accounts so they might not be able to offer Stephenson enough to keep him. Otherwise, Rudy will probably be starting (unless Cuban is really mad at him about the whole Real Madrid thing … I wouldn’t like to make Cuban mad) and his defense has gotten a lot better over the last year.
My prediction is that Rudy is done with the NBA.
Studies have shown that people making 10 million a year are no happier than those making 5. Rudy has enough financial comfort to make it an emotional decision. He is not good enough to be a star in the NBA, nor does he possess the need to play with the best. He will be happy in Spain, and good for him.

What a cry baby.
You get playing time when you deserve it. Go back to Europe. You just couldn’t do it with the big boys.
No doubt. Being young, successful, and living in Madrid seems way more attractive
than scrapping for minutes against Stephenson and Terry while living in Dallas.

Madrid is landlocked. Not exactly the nicest city in Spain :-)
But well, it’s much closer to Barcelona and Mallorca than Portland or Dallas.
I've never been to Dallas
but I’m going to go ahead and assume it to be a sprawling wasteland of sky scrapers, boob jobs, and BBQ joints.
I’m sure it has its downsides too, mind you.;)

Right - something to watch in the lockout!
They should both be happier. Sergio got inconsistent minutes last season, but now Prigioni’s gone back to Caja Laboral, so the team is his to lose…
As long as Sergio hasn't forgetten
how to throw lobs and backdoor passes to Rudy (which I doubt) he should be fine. It’ll be very interesting to watch! Not sure if it will be enough to have Rodriguez start over Sergio Llull (two PG’s, two Sergio’s … wow) as my impressions of him on the national team have been really good but I’m sure they’ll make sure the they get some court time together!
My impressions of Llull, I mean
although was mainly the backup SG so guess I haven’t really seen him run the point …
