Spain Drops France In EuroBasket Tune-up
The Spanish national team, featuring former Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez and Blazers international forward Victor Claver, defeated the French national team, featuring Blazers forward Nicolas Batum, in a friendly exhibition played in Almeria, Spain, on Tuesday. Spain won 76-53 in a game that served as preparation for the upcoming EuroBasket tournament. Spain took command of the game early and led by double digits the rest of the way. Spain is currently ranked No. 2 in the world by FIBA, basketball's international governing body, while France is No. 14. Batum left the game during the third quarter with what Fabrice Auclert of BasketUSA.com said was an apparent injury to his teeth or mouth. He returned to action in the fourth quarter but the site called Tuesday's game a "nightmare evening" for Batum, who finished with 0 points. Update: Batum's full line, courtesy of Auclert: 0 points in 15 min, 0/5 FG, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 3 fouls, 1 steal, 1 TO. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
