At least Stern isn't taking a salary while the lockout endures.

Hmmm, not ready to give him credit for that yet.

Whose to say his pay has been cut? Maybe it’s just been delayed, and he gets it all once the lockout is over. That’s probably a little overly suspicious but I have no reason to trust gray-haired, necktie-wearing alpha dogs.

If the NBA follows the NFL's example Stern will receive "back pay" when the lockout is over.

I’m sure the little dictator has enough pocket money to tide him over until then.

The dirty truth.

Reportedly, he didn't get paid during the last lockout

The guy couldn’t even afford to pay razor blades . . .

Does anybody know — did he recoup his salary last time? Get a bonus?

Stern's unfortunately BDFL-status.

He’s pulling strings and probably signing his own checks. I say it’s high time for a NBA-coup.

Big deal

And who exactly would he get his 15-23 million from if he did want it? His paycheck comes from the franchise owners and they’re in a middle of a lockout. There’s no money being made.

It would actually mean something if he agreed to lower his salary but that not’s going to happen.

Stern is such a punk.

I wish he would go soak his head in a bucket of poop.

He doesn't deserve his salary

He should be fired. I’m not saying the current situation is all on him, but he’s had years to do something about it before it happened, and did nothing.
There’s nothing in the rule book that says you have to wait until a contract expires before you get working on the next one.
Rev-sharing should have been handled long ago, and would have made everything else go much smoother, and he did nothing.
What has he done? Pissed off the fans by treating us like we’re complete morons. Pissed off the players by trying to make them look like the bad guys. And once games start being cancelled, he’ll have pissed off the idiots who pay his salary. But hey, at least he made sure players are well-dressed when they arrive at the arena. Oh, and he completely ignored handled the whole cheating refs thing.

To be accurate...

It’s said by sources close to Stern he won’t take his salary.
He hasn’t said it. And until he does…
NFL Commish didn’t take his during lockout and just recently several players and commentators made a point of criticizing his salary. So now we here reports Stern won’t take his. Un-huh.

I don't think people would be happy with Stern either way.

If he did say something, people would probably say he’s grandstanding. It’s a no-win for him.

Of course, he brought this onto himself by making himself disliked for multiple generations.

agreed

Stern lucked into Larry/Magic/Michael, and was just smart enough to start marketing the game around these marketable players. The league’s popularity and profits soared for the next couple decades. Unfortunately, David bought into his own hype and probably thinks he deserves much more of the credit than he actually does. Now he is an arrogant, smug, jerk.

the irony of it all is that this player-focused marketing of the Stern era has hurt the pro game in many ways.

It's definitely a no-win

There are tons of problems with the NBA, and David Stern is the logical lightening rod for all of them.

Ironically, Billy Hunter was offended when Shane Battier asked him about dropping his salary to $1 like the NFL union leader did. Of course, Hunter makes a whole lot less than Stern makes, but at the same time, if he’s still getting paid when the paychecks stop for most of the NBA players . . . Well, it’s awkward.

Kobe Bryant's Rear-end?

Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God dammit, you've got to be kind.
