"It's a more physical game over here [in Europe]. NBA rules helped change the game that brought scoring up. This is a man's game over here."

Once again, Mike Fratello hit the nail on the head.

The NBA should go back to the knock-down, drag-out era that was the 1990s.

Give me a hard-fought, rough-and-tumble 72-66 game with great defense each and every time. I’d be satisfied.

Meh

I’d rather have 130-124 or so with a ton of dunks. No defense unless it’s a steal or a block.

After watching classic games on NBA TV

I’d rather see games from 1983. 20 times more fun than anything from the mid-90s.

meh, i think the 80s games were awful

and every decade before that was even worse (except if it included Pistol Pete)

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

sure, sure, sure

I grew up in the ’90s Jordan era, but much prefer the game today to be honest.

Basketball is a lot like music and SNL

The era in which a person first discovers it is always the golden era to them.

Also (replying to the above comment), I can understand preferring the modern game to the ’90s game. But honestly, I think I prefer watching pickup games at the Y over the ’90s game. Sorry AK.

NBA TV is doing awesome hard court classic replays of old games...

even replaying old All Star games and slam dunk competitions, which are pretty fun to watch.

the Jordan gold necklaces cracked me up

I hate to admit it

But if a lockout means that NBA TV will continue their current programming, I don’t mind it lasting a little longer. NBA TV = upgrade right now.

Michael Jordan

I was told…is the one who lobbied strongly for the less physical form of play.
Said the fans weren’t interested in the slow paced maul fest that went on when Detroit and the Nicks were the “bad boys” back in the day.
I think the NBA has gone overboard with the hand check rule..I don’t think MJ had anything to do with this.
And some physical play does go on..it is just sneakily done…Jawann Howard was a master at this.

not Juwan Howard!

Chris Kaman said pretty much the same thing after his first international prep games this summer.

More physical battles under the basket since there is no camping in the lane, less one on one isos, … Some stereotypes about international and European basketball are true, others not so much.

it's true

just by watching some of those london invitational games this past week, i could tell that the refs are far more lenient over there.

PHILLY!

Some how Rudy Fernandez, and Mans Game don't seem to go together in my head.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

it will be easy for Rudy

he did the in the NBA

in Europe, he’s a star, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been in the NBA in the first place.
