Blazers Star Smackdown: Round 2, Matchup #5
This is the next to the last battle in the second round of the Blazers Star Smackdown. The exercise pits 24 of Portland's better-known stars from the last 40 years against each other to determine your ultimate favorite. If you don't know the rules, they're right after the jump. Pay particular attention to the instructions on how to vote. Also feel free to converse about these guys and the matchup apart from your actual vote.
Matchup #5
In the comment section below please vote for one of these players:
Keep in mind you can use almost any criteria you wish to make your vote but only consider their Portland career when doing so. Enjoy!
--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)
The rules:
- Each day you'll get a head-to-head matchup. Vote for one as the winner. Use any criteria you wish: talent, contributions, effect, or just that you like 'em better.
- Consider only a player's Portland tenure in your decision. Nothing for other teams counts!
- We are NOT doing simple polls on these because polls can be spammed. One account, one vote in the comment section.
- Please label your vote clearly in the subject line of your comment. Feel free to explain at length and argue in the body of the comment. We encourage discussion (it's the point, in fact) but please do NOT cast your original vote seeded as a reply to someone else's comment.
- The *asterisk* above indicates this caveat: Bill Walton, Clyde Drexler, Maurice Lucas, and Terry Porter will not be a part of the Star Smackdown. By contributions or popularity they're superstars and would probably make the other voting meaningless. We're reserving a special category for them in another year.

Geoff Petrie-
I didn’t see either of them play, but Petrie pips Kiki in front office skills.

Geoff Petrie
First of all, he pass the ball well. He play defense. He stole the ball at least once a game. Finally, The Trail Blazers got Maurice Lucas for trading Petrie. They got a ring from that missing piece. Kiki was a HELL of a shooter!!!
Petrie. Better shooter, much better all-round.
Perfect form on his J, and he could get it off vs anyone. Team player as well who averaged 4.5 assts.
ignacio
Was not a better shooter
But the rest is pretty accurate.
Petrie
Much better all-around player, and the Blazers really were HIS team for a while there. Kiki was a great scorer, but really one-dimensional and not primarily a Blazer.

Never saw Petrie play, so it’s hard to classify him as a “favorite” Blazer of mine. However, was Portland’s first real star, ROY, number retired, great scorer, and good front office guy for the Blazers. Kiki was a great shooter and scorer, but I also remember that being a relatively short stint, back problems, and getting pushed for playing time by a guy named Kersey. That said, I like Kiki, but in my opinion Petrie has been more valuable to the Blazers…and that’s how I choose to vote on this one.

Petrie, but only due to his additional front office years as a Blazer.
Close race for me, since I never saw Petrie play.
Petrie
Saw them both…and Petrie was not just a scorer. He was the Blazers’ first “star” , an original Blazer and shared the ROY of 1970 with Dave Cowens. Kiki was a great scorer…period…
Are you a Mexi-CAN or a Mexi-CAN'T?
Petrie
because I quite enjoyed The Land Before Time as a child

Petrie
The first Blazer, as far as I’m concerned. The team’s first all-star, and the best player on the team for a few years.
Petrie
The first to wear Nikes!

More because of his historical significance then anything. They are very even as players to me but Petrie was a Blazer pioneer… and played a little defense!
#7... GO BLAZERS!!!
Geoff
Wherever you may be; good night, eeeeeeverybody!
