The Basketball Jones Will Inspire You
If you've ever wanted to pursue a career in sports online -- whether that's blogging, writing, podcasting, videocasting, tweeting, community moderating, live chat hosting, on-camera personality-ing or anything else -- I can't recommend the following podcast enough. The Basketball Jones are a sensational sports blogging success story. J.E. Skeets and Tas Melas are two of the funniest people you'll run across anywhere, but they're not funny by accident. The pair and the show's producer, J.D., spent literally years honing their craft to get to the point where TBJ could be a full-time career. In 2010, the show was picked up by TheScore.com. In a podcast posted Thursday, the group runs down how their show came to be, remembering all the early mornings and blood, sweat and tears that went into it. They admit they came pretty close to giving up on a few occasions and, by the end of it, sound like three of the happiest people on the planet. It's honest, inspirational, and downright hilarious, as always. It's also a great behind the scenes look at this "industry". (And, as always, it's rated PG-13 for language and subject matter.) Give it a listen. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
