Trade idea: Rudy Fernandez for Jonny Flynn
Both teams benefit.
-Gain a legitimate backup PG, and maybe more.
-Ameliorate the log-jam at SG.
-Gain a decent SG, and a teammate for incoming Ricky Rubio
-Ameliorate the log-jam at PG
-Jonny Flynn's "market value" is low now, so it is a good time to pick him up if you think, like I do, that he has the potential to become an accomplished point guard. He may be shorter than a typical NBA PG, but that is not necessarily a bad thing -- a la J.J. Barea.
-Rudy Fernandez is not a good fit for the Blazers. While he can shoot, his real talents lie in movement on and off the ball, and occasional playmaking. Those talents will never be availed in Portland. On the Twolves, however, with Rubio manning the helm, it is easy to envision him playing a complete game.
